Nancy R:
I'm afraid you're in the minority here Plastic Mac. Most of us love the entire album.
I'm sure if Paul recorded his farts then people on here would give it a favourable review.
-
Obviously you havent been to any of Pauls shows the last 10 years. He still puts on a live show that rivals anyone in the music industry. He loves what he does and keeps on working. Im surehe doesnt do it for the money. He just loves writing singing and.putting on a top of the line show for his fans. I think Paul has earned the right to continue as long as he likes. Ill keep buying his albims and attending his shows.

I hardly think that is true. You're just being ridiculous to try to prove your point.

I have no issue with his live shows, they are great. But his new songs on the whole are a huge disappointment. I did love My Valentine and a few songs on Memory Almost Full but his latest offering has left me very cold and as I said his singing is very poor which he mostly gets away with in his live shows.

Id rather listen to New than Miley Cyrus' new Album or Kanye West and your not asking them to retire.
-
Here's how I would rate his career, as far as songwriting, counting solo/Wings/Fireman stuff, anything where it's basically all original songs: McCartney - 6 out of 10 Ram - 9 Wild Life - 5 Red Rose Speedway - 7 Band On The Run - 9 Venus and Mars - 7 Speed of Sound - 6 London Town - 8 Back To The Egg - 7 McCartney II - 6 Tug Of War - 9 Pipes Of Peace - 5 Press To Play - 7 Flowers In The Dirt - 7 Off The Ground - 7 Flaming Pie - 7 Driving Rain - 6 Chaos and Creation - 9 Memory Almost Full - 7 Electric Arguments - 7 New - haven't heard all yet, but an 8 based on 4 songs so far... But that's just me!

Miley Cyrus and Kanye West do not even compare with Paul McCartney. I have been a huge fan of Macca since the beginning, the other two are legends in their own lunchtime.

It looks like I don't have "Scared." I have the 14 tracks, as listed on the packaging + one "Unknown" track. Did I miss something?
Did you wait about 20 seconds after the final "official" track played? That's when it starts.
"Get Me Out Of Here" is the last track listed by name (#14). Then an un-named, piano track plays (#15). That's it.

Well, at least there are some highlights for you after "Tug Of War". I was expecting all 1's!

Interesting that your desire for him to hang it up is based on his studio efforts rather than his live performances. I know a few who take the opposite view since his singing voice at concerts can much be more raw and less subject to complimentary enhancement through recording studio technology. They prefer he drop live performances in favor of exclusive studio work. I say bring it on it live and in the studio. In writing off everything since Tug of War that is condemning thirty years of some unforgettable music, such as the likes of that contained on Flaming Pie and my personal favorite, Chaos and Creation. To each his own.

Plastic, I respectfully disagree completely. I'm not sure what album you are listening to. Queenie Eye Save Us Alligator Appreciate Hosanna Turned Out These songs all are wonderful. melodic, catchy and lets just add for one second, an AMAZING accomplishment for a man of 71 or a man of 40. You had to know you would also get a thrust of harsh replies stating what you stated on a board like this. So, I'm a bit curious as to your motivation here. I'm sorry, I just completely miss the point and miss your complaint. If you want to say it's not as good as Band On The Run or Tug of War, then you have an argument. I love this album, and that's my final answer.

Here's how I would rate his career: GREAT
-
Plastic Mac:
I love Paul and his music as much as anyone but I have to say his new album is rubbish. It has one OK song which is the title track. His singing is atrocious as well. His songwriting has been mostly poor since Tug Of War so I think it's time for Paul to retire disgracefully, I'm sure one and a half billion pounds will last him. Yesterday all his troubles seemed so far away.
You are entitled to your opinion but music critics actually think McCartney records the last decade have been pretty good. Do a little reading and see the reviews from as far back as FITD (1989). Maybe you think critics don't know anything either but I am sure most people on this board think McCartney has been better than poor since 1982 (TOW). Just so you don't think I love everything McCartney has ever done, I will personally tell you I thought RAM was mediocre, "Wild Life" was horrible, hated "McCartney II" and "Pipes of Peace". "OTG "was ok and while I liked parts of DR, it still was only average. On the other hand, loved CHAOS and thought MAF and EA were very good. I have not listened to "New" yet but what I have heard so far live, I have enjoyed.

That should be "Scared" then, right? Something about "I'm scared to love you"?

I agree. You seem like a pretty knowledgable paul fan. Just give New another listen. I wasnt blown away the first time I heard it and I still dont think its the best since wings, but I do think it is a veru strong album. One that is easy to listen to. It grows on you.

I'm not writing everything off since Tug Of War as there has been some really good stuff but I feel his very high standard has slipped and after I heard New I was very very disappointed. Paul can't go wrong at his concerts because the songs are so brilliant but I really feel he's harming his legacy the longer he writes and records.

OK -- I guess I'm good. 12 songs 2 Bonus tracks 1 hidden track. I thought there were going to be 2 hidden tracks for whatever reason.

Got standard version of NEW($11.99) with the lighted cube at FYE in Montebello. They had 6 or 8 cubes with purchase of NEW. I'm going to listen to NEW tonight and hope I like it. Just checked ebay and saw "the cube" was already on the list and they are charging for $50 to $200. They are scums, really.

He/She is the only won on the planet earth that would think "New" deserved a grade of 1 and EA a grade of 2.
