I don't expect too much thought was put into the list..... sounds like four or five guys or gals having a cup of tea and just putting something together over a five minute break..... we of course would want more effort put into it..... Either way, it's a pretty impressive listing... because how could it not be?..... but lacking in so many other ways.... not my complete choice of tea. I'm a coffee drinker, for one.... And I'm getting too old to buy something I can just jiggle and re-arrange to have at a fingertip.
Yes we all have our favorites and so does his "team" but "Bip Bop" - Really !!
Funnily enough, I don't mind Bip Bop that much..... I know that might drive a wedge between us!..... but, hey, I'm on the positive side of Girlfriend.....
(Doing my best Johnny Carson impression as Carnac the magnificent) the answer is Bip Bop and Girlfriend. What are two McCartney songs that should have all copies and the master tapes erased? (ð???) So ,yes we all have our favorites and songs we don't like.
Ha, yep, I am aware of that segment from the great Johnny Carson. Mine would be Scared and Hosanna..... but, sssh, I also don't mind Mary Had A Little Lamb.... well, it is certainly much better than the original... And I reckon I am the only one that has ever said he likes Tug of Peace.....
Tug of peace I do enjoy along with hey hey.
Shhh..... the FBI have just been alerted.

From the website "McCartney curated career-spanning compilation out 10th June. As a songwriter Paul has never stood still, dipping his toe in countless genres and styles. 'Pure McCartney' is testament to that fact. From the songwriting masterclass of 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and adventurous, three-songs-in-one of 'Band On The Run' to the irresistible groove of 'Say Say Say' and ahead-of-its-time electronica of 'Temporary Secretary', described by NME when compiling a list of the greatest ever songs as ?not so much ahead of its time, but out of it altogether?, 'Pure McCartney' charts the unstoppable adventures of McCartney's unique and eclectic songwriting talents and shines a light on his post-Beatles artistic achievements." Wow I for one am pretty excited. It comes out the day after my birthday too! I really like that's it's put together by Paul. Neat album artwork too. Thoughts?
Kind of curious how well this will sell. Seems most people attending concerts think he did not do anything past Wings - lol.

You know what would have been great idea years ago when his voice was bunch better. If he did four concerts in small venue and did Disc One the first night and the next concert was just Disc 2 etc. These concerts are recorded and the CD's is named "Pure McCartney Live" - just a fantasy - lol !!

I was guessing no Flowers in The Dirt or Off The Ground as they haven't been released as the "Remasterd Compilations" yet?
Winedark Open Sea is from Off the Ground and the remastered version of the album was released on Hear Music a couple of years ago. A stunning selection of songs, but I don't understand why Bip Bop makes these collections. Lots of better McCartney songs he could have selected. Must have special significance to him.

Mojo (UK music mag) gives 'Pure McCartney' **** (out of *****) in their latest issue.
hahaha...I saw the stars & thought WTF did they beep there. : I got it now! ops:

Sounds like Paul's small children vocalize cute sounds during or at the end of "Bip Bop," maybe that's why it holds special meaning for him. It's a cute fun song snippet-- doesn't really sound like a complete song, does it. He could have expanded Bip Bop into an all out wildish rockabilly groove. With lyrics.

That release wasn't remastered. Just a 1 on 1 copy of the initial 1993 release with a new label tag on it, to reprint what was out of print.

Amazon.com description is "Digitally remastered reissue of the ninth solo studio album by the legendary Sir Paul McCartney, originally released in 1993." But the original sounds fine too.

I know, but that's almost false advertising... They are really identical, same with 'Run Devil Run' and 'Driving Rain'.

Yeah! That's Tom Frangione who has written for Beatlefan Magazine (out of Decatur, GA!) since 1979! I've had a subscription (and have all the copies since Dec. 1980)

This collection is going to stiff...badly. Ad-hoc choices and pointless. If it was intended to represent all his albums, it fails and insofar as offering rare material it fails. Surely the remasters is intended to reintroduce his output, but MPL can't even do THAT right.
I think you will be right, will not do well. IMO - "Pure McCartney" should have been just his solo work and not included songs from Wings. He has addressed his career with Wings so do we really need them represented on this collection. He needed to add some excellent B side songs like "Summer Of 59" for example or songs that were not ever released (exp. India). Not having one song from FITD is absurd and was shocked not to see "Hope Of Deliverance". I know I am not going to buy it, I can make my own "Pure McCartney" and it will be more enjoyable to me.
-
If Paul wanted to do this right, he should have crowd-sourced the song list. For example, he could have listed all of the albums and had users rank order the songs on each album. It also would have been fun and engaging for his fans.
