A couple of questions I have .... 1. In an audience of around 140, how does Simon Pegg and the young guy from Liverpool who did the youtube cover of "New" manage to get a ticket?...
It's Paul's show and the BBC hosted it. They can both ask anybody they like - subject only to venue fire regulations. Martin

Yes these live performances aren't going to help push the album, might just put people off. Also he should have played more off the album as i thought this was the purpose of these gigs?
I know what you're saying - and I'd always prefer to hear a set leaning more heavily on his solo work - but four new songs in a set that's only just over an hour long isn't too bad going.

Sounds pretty rough on the vocals...

I agree...and sure, in the long run he'll be playing more from the past. BUT, I think it speaks much more confidently to the general public that the first gig after the release contains at least the half the album for promotional purposes. Then, by the time November/Japan roll around...Paul can figure out what he likes playing best. Anyone consider him playing "Struggle" over there...since it's the exclusively Japanese bonus track?

Thats interesting, because Paul seemed as surprised to see the singer from Liverpool as I did.... I just find it disheartning when you pin your hopes on scoring a ticket for something like this by online ballot, and fail , only to see the usual celebs peppering the audience....

Totally disagree . Both my wife and I found both his radio 6 and 2 vocal performances to be great. Save us from the radio 6 show was clearly better than the Jimmy Kimmel American TV performance, and Band On The Run (not an easy song to sing, I can tell you) was superb. This constant sniping about Paul's voice is getting tiring - especially when it's on his own forum! : I for one am looking forward to Graham Norton, because if he sings like he did yesterday, he will be superb

Great way to sell records, murder your classics live on Radio. Gee, Graham Norton is gonna be a car crash. Why does this always happen in the UK!?!
LOL...if did stuff he can sing, he'd be fine...Save Us, Junior's Farm...then bow and say goodnight.
-
Evidently the Radio 2 evening performance killed the 11am BBC6 gig. I only heard the morning show and as an ardent fan, Save Us and Juniors Farm, and perhaps New aside, he sounded pretty bleak. Granted - it was 11am...

Just checked out a couple of clips and that was my thinking exactly! He just doesn't seem to think straight when it comes to his radio/tv appearances in the UK. Any sane person would look at their live repertoire and only include songs in the set list that they can sing. He has further trashed his reputation in his home country. Clearly, he only has regard for the Americas. Yes, yes he is 71 and we can't expect him to still sing like he was 25. I get that. Seems to me he thinks like a 90 year old!!
Oh yes he clearly thrives on pissing off all his fans but those in the Americas. You've nailed it and discovered Paul's true goal in life. :
-
Hmmmmm...let's see: People in the UK complain McCartney does not perform there. He performs there. People in the UK complain about him performing there. Ok! Got it!

Yep, pretty much! No rolling of eyes necessary in my reply.

Well said mate. I'm from the UK , and I don't think the UK deserves him. If you don't like his voice , go and listen to someone else's - and leave him to the people who (still) enjoy his performances.... :

Just to clarify, SOME people in the UK complain, not all. I had a lovely time at the second show - and he was on good form for it. I don't think any of these live sessions will make or break public opinion: the people who like him will still like him, and the people who think he's past it will feel vindicated. There are still a lot of people out there who respect him for what he does - and is still capable of doing. That's why so many people applied for tickets. It's just that the people who feel strongly one way or the other are more likely to speak out about it. Don't forget: ENJOY the music.

Stuartshire's sunny commentary was really refreshing especially after some of the grouchy griping in here. I read online somebody called out asking for an autograph during the Maida Vail BBC thing or somewhere and Paul was gobsmacked, it interrupted his mini-concert while they were playing, or something. Can Anyone verify this and expound? And explain and describe
-
I agree hey bulldog, and am glad you enjoyed the show, but it is quite a high number who can't help put him down (UK fans) - even on here ! I wouldn't go onto a David Bowie forum, and keep saying how past it etc he is... I would just stop listening to his current stuff - just seems like common sense to me... (thanks Suzy. Many of us in the UK - as hey bulldog says - STILL love what Paul does)
-
Some Aussies were in here too getting digs in
-
Yeah, maybe due to his no show there thats to be understood. I feel for them. But then again - if you don't like his singing anymore, maybe it's best he doesn't play there!

Look at it another way, if Paul sang songs he could manage he'd preserve his voice for longer. Opera singers rest their voices on the day of the show, maybe Paul should have done this as he aged.

Thanks for the heads-up, Beeb!

I thought that's what he was doing by limiting his live appearances and tours. But then in 2013, he did some extensive touring, compared to the last six or seven years.
