Hmmmmm...let's see: People in the UK complain McCartney does not perform there. He performs there. People in the UK complain about him performing there. Ok! Got it!
Not complaining per say, if he's going to perform live I've said many times I'd rather he didn't do it on radio/TV where he's going to get scrutinised when he sings as bad as he does. He gets away with in a concert setting but most definitely doesn't on TV/Radio.

I see your point. I guess I am getting used to how he sounds, I watched some of his performances in the US and UK in the past couple weeks, he does fine. Some strain, and not what he used to be. Maybe, as some have suggested, he should stick with songs in a lower register, and forget the high end stuff he used to do. Problem is, McCartney's signature singing is that high, "Maybe I'm Amazed" style vocals so many expect from him. Ringo can still pull off his shows, because his songs were not ever difficult to sing. I am not slamming Ringo, I love him. But there is something to be said for that.
-
The thing is , I genuinley enjoyed his radio appearances yesterday. If Paul didn't gig as much, I'm sure his voice would be smoother. I still think it's remarkably good. Plenty of his comtemporaries do very little . Paul works hard , and I salute him for it.

Thanks for the heads-up, Beeb!
Yeah, this made me laugh. I replied saying I noticed that Rob Brydon , and Simon Pegg managed to get tickets no problem... :

I've got used to it too and I enjoyed his recent US performances but the BBC Radio stuff was bad in comparison. I think part of the 'problem' with the BBC stuff was that Paul's vocals were much further forward in the mix than any of the recent stuff. I thought the performances sounded pretty good on Kimmel and Fallon.

I agree. This is probably the first time in 2013 that I've been disappointed with his vocal performance. I think the time of day may have had a great deal to do with it.

For me, the radio 6 version of "Save Us" was better than it was on Kimmel.

Hehe yea i got a similar email today as well, good ole BBC always got their finger on the pulse. Anyway to the performance i thought when compared to recent shows poor,he sounded terribly tired when he was interviewed and lets be fair about it singing in the morning isnt what he's all about so that too may have added to strain in his voice.

Well said mate. I'm from the UK , and I don't think the UK deserves him. If you don't like his voice , go and listen to someone else's - and leave him to the people who (still) enjoy his performances.... :
^^^ this ^^^ I got lucky after registering for the online draw the evening after Chris Evans announced it on his breakfast show. The later session for Radio 2 was far more of a show than the earlier live session for BBC 6 Music. So what if the voice creaked a little? The acoustics in the Maida Vale studio sounded pretty damn good from where I stood. Did anyone watch the Stones on BBC1 last Saturday night, the abridged version of their forthcoming film of the summer's Hyde Park gigs? I was there in July, a great night, but there is no doubt which singer has the better voice (and always did). Long may Paul continue to write, record - and perform live shows. Take a sad song, and make it better...

Yeah Fallon was especially good.

I agree. And I said that Save US and Juniors Farm, and perhaps NEW were clearly the best of that 11am short set. But as much as I love Paul, I have to call it as I see (hear) it, and basically the rest was pretty ordinary, with We Can Work It Out, simply bad. I haven't heard the Radio 2 set, but people have posted he was in much better form there. But his age, the fact he hardly warms up, and the accumulative damage done by heavy smoking has taken its toll. TV and radio are like soundboards, they just accentuate every flaw in his voice. It does him no real favours. Although an 11am gig in the midst of a hectic promotional campaign would surely have been to his detriment. Concerts are another thing all together. Huge happy buzz, and the music bouncing around the arena, still makes (for me) the greatest show on Earth. ...That is why I travel to see him each year, and why I will once again pack my bags and venture to Japan.

I couldn't agree more. Paul used to be famous for being a perfectionist where's that guy gone.?

I can't be bothered clicking and scrolling through this thread looking for links so for anyone who is as lazy as I am...... 'Save Us'

Ok I was 3 people from the front and Rachel was in front I can see over her head no problem. Paul came out and play 8 days so I was like 20 feet or so from him. At the end of the song I moved to the back as my back was killing me and a kind lady from audience control gave me a chair to sit in at the side. So from then on it was a listening experience for me apart for My Valentine and 1985 as I could see him at the side piano ( the black shiny one). Mostly my eyes were shut and when open I was seeing the audience and the bbc staff who were nipping in and out. Poor James connections did him no good and he was stuck at the back. The sound from the band and him was fantastic, bass hitting my chest like a fibulator and the audience singing , clapping and dancing the BeeB staffers too, some young and very attractive too. I had deliberately not listened to any tracks apart from NEW, well it was free, legal and from his site, as I wanted to hear the new songs completely fresh. Would have preferred two more NEW tracks but what the hell it was free. SAVE US got me straight away and remember at this I making my way to the back getting weird looks don't know why they were all moving one place closer. Liked the feel of Everybody out There. New I had got to really enjoy more and more with every listen and as 3 neighbours had said to me the previous week a great poppy song. Shoot me I like pop. Queenie Eye felt then on Wednesday after hearing if first as a great fun live song as in Nod Your Head though it was to become the bane of my life on Thursday and Friday as you sodden 3 can't sing. I have seen him since 1979 play BOTR and weds performance was up with the best if not the best I have heard it. Another Day was sublime. To me on Being wasn't up to the rest of the gig and some of you know I am not a fan of My Valentine but it was a good performance of it. Imagine my horror and well known anglo saxon terms of endearment when I listened to radio 2 broadcast that evening on the hotel freeview. That wasn't the concert that I HEARD. Remember I am and old fart and I couldn't see him to get carried away with emotions all I had was my ears and I ain't deaf. It was a great performance by him and the band. I really want to plug some audio devices in some peoples bathrooms. Ta very much to the Beeb, the two nice ladies in audience control and to paul and the band. p.s.. Well done to Vanessa fletz for during the gig letting wee Rachel in front of her to see the lad. Thank you lass.

Peter if i've read you right you say that on the wireless it didnt sound as good as the concert itself,in what way do you mean? poorly recorded or just the wear and tear of old technology

Man, whoever's complainin' about this show, I don't what you were listening to! I've got a recording of this and it's frickin' amazing! The band is shit hot and Paul is incredible! The BBC sound mix is just gorgeous. One of the best shows of his I've heard in a long time, better than any show he's done recently. Thank you BBC! Thank you, Band! Thank you, Paul!

the WIRELESS omg lass you must be as old as me I used the expression WIRELESS GRAMOPHONE PLAYER on Friday about my first single ssshhhh SHE LOVES YOU. after the show we exited and the pair of us were quit knackered her emotionally after getting to the front. Luckily I had given her a spare pair of me depends. I had a couple of cards that I wished to get signed for a couple of lady members here who have had a rough time the last 2 year; but really didn't want to walk down to the main entrance were all bounty hunters were and some fans. But we did unfortunately he came out the same exit as we did but don't think he signed anything. But the Bounty Hunters or in my words scum of the earth ( that bit was censored) running up the road screaming obscenities at paul's car that made me blush. Then they came back to their criminals in arms and the two females in their matched their male counterparts in their adjectives. Yes I did mean the radio even taking into account that it was only the freeview television broadcast. I watched the Olympics with the 2.2 speakers thingy on the telly and would have done if at home. But I met a few other people over the next two days who did listen to the radio in stereo and they felt the same as me, the balance had been changed . don't ask me for technical stuff I only know what I heard in person. It was a great LIVE performance by the man and the band and with live performances (since 1977) of any artist I have never heard a pitch prefect performance throughout. The only way to get that is for the artist to mime and Mr McCartney doesn't do that.

The BBC did brilliantly with this series from Maida Vale - all this week's shows ended up on the BBC red button. The delicious Alison Goldfrapp - she's come on leaps and bounds from her early "eye-catching" performances of songs like Strict Machine - not that I was complaining - much softer and romantic nowadays. And the Welsh group Manic Street Preachers - as powerful as ever. Highlights on the BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/events/r358q9 - usual geographic limits apply, but examples of their work should be found on YouTube. What better advert for the benefits of a free National Broadcaster? Martin
