THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL
-
Just listening to the new remasters for the very first time. So far, I'm blown away by the new and improved sound - it's like hearing the songs for the first time. I'm also very impressed by the V & M bonus disc.

Yeah, Venus and Mars sounds incredible. I knew it would. I bought the deluxe edition. The album seems brand new all over again.

The book version is outstanding. I love the attention to detail, the vintage recreations, and all of the little tidbits, photos, etc. Definitely worth the money when that much goes into it.

Does the book go into detail about the recording dates and who played what on each track etc?

More details are on VENUS AND MARS. They got some credits wrong, though. Recording dates are in for the two. Very similar to what is in my book, which I'm quite proud of

Supposedly, it's these two this year: Venus and Mars (1975) (Wings) Wings at the Speed of Sound (1976) (Wings) And then these two in 2015: Tug of War (1982) Pipes of Peace (1983) Beyond that is anyone's guess, but I'm guessing the following are out of the running, since Hear Music has already re-released them without bonus material: Off the Ground (1993) Run Devil Run (1999) Driving Rain (2001) Chaos and Creation in the Backyard (2005)
I suppose he has his reasons for how he's approaching this project, but whatever they are.... are not readily apparent. If it were me, I would just do them in the order they were originally recorded.....maybe three at a time, but...how he is going about it is quite baffling. To me.

I can't believe RRS is not going to be re-released. Paul has a gem of that time ("1881"), please include it!!!

I have the First Edition : October 2013 Reprint 1' copy of your excellent book Luca but I'm not sure if you have added more specific recording dates to a more recent edition? The V & M material recorded in the US you have as been recorded between January 16th - February 24th 1975 but I'm assuming (and would expect) that the V & M deluxe book would have specific recording dates down for each track.

Yes they have specific dates. In my case, I was referring to Speed of Sound, where I had some correct dates through Maccazine, as stated in the book. Which has now been reprinted 7 different times

Tell you what, I'll wait until the 100th reprint and then I'll buy another copy.

On the new Billboard 200 LP chart, we have: #31 - Venus and Mars #45 - At The Speed Of Sound Maybe the slow pace of releasing these is paying off in sales and chart position more than it would if they were coming out every few months. By the way, my deluxe book packages arrived yesterday. Yay! Listened to V&M's main disc and bonus disc so far. I agree about the V&M production: something was lacking, mostly drums and bass, actually. The bonus disc, starting with "Junior's Farm," sounds so much richer and fuller. Interestingly, the fullest-sounding track on the main album, I think, is "Medicine Jar."

Per HitsDailyDouble, V&M sold about 9,500 copies and Speed of Sound about 7,800. http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/sales/salescht.cgi Sadly, no sign of New returning to the chart, even with the new deluxe edition.

I may be a bit confused on the dates, but I'm pretty sure the New reissue came out a week before these other ones. I forgot to check the chart last week, though. I wonder how many copies of these got pressed, by the way.

Seems like a combination of personal pride, historical relevance, and especially marketability. Those are my guesses!

Just a note on the DVDs in these packages: What a transformation in Paul! Watch him go from loose, scrappy, hungry Paul, rebuilding Wings (V&M) to confident "celebrity" Paul by the end of the world tour (SOS). You can just see he feels vindicated, having proved himself all over again after all the bad press in the wake of the Beatles' breakup.
