THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL
-
Paul was a few years late with FITD. If he followed up TOW with Flowers in the mid-80s, it would have done much better commercially. After Broadstreet & Press to Play, radio stations and the casual music fan had given up on Paul by the late 80s. 'My Brave Face' & 'This One' would have been Top 10 hits a few years earlier. Which is ironic as there was a "Beatle-esque" pop resurgence in the mid 80s and many bands benefited from it - just not Paul.

I quite like the album and I like Rough Ride and Distractions, particularly the latter.
Aside from the clunky line about buzzing butterflies, Distractions is my favourite track from FITD (although That Day Is Done is a very close second), and was perhaps one of Paul's better songs from the 1980's.
.I too do really like That Day is Done.

I'm surprised Paul is issuing this on its own when he paired up McCartney & McCartney II + Venus & Mars & Wings at The Speed of Sound + Tug of War & Pipes of Peace. At least the latter pair are both stronger records than Flowers in the Dirt. I'm also appalled at the price of the Deluxe and this nonsense about downloads. For the first time in the archive collection, I'm genuinely uncertain as to if I will shell out for this one. I love the record, but I want everything tangible. No two ways about it. This Deluxe edition now seems glaringly incomplete. Anyway, I think it would've made a lot more sense to release this with Off The Ground and bring the price down a bit. I think they'd find it would boost sales for both. As for what's to come next? If it's a single release, I think London Town is the obvious choice. If it's a pair? Then I suppose Back to The Egg would make sense...but Wild Life & Red Rose Speedway would also make sense as a pair to come next.
I can't believe that FITD is being issued on its own. This and OTG are like brothers (a clear beginning and end of a period in Paul's career), I'd wish their Archive Collection Issues were both released at the same time.
My thoughts exactly. Venus and Mars with Speed of Sound, Tug of War with Pipes of Peace, I would've thought Off the Ground would come with Flowers in the Dirt. That method would also work with London Town/Back to the Egg, Wild Life/Red Rose Speedway, and Broad Street/Press to Play. There's not much consistency to it, but as long as they get done - in any order - count me in! I love having these every year.

I quite like the album and I like Rough Ride and Distractions, particularly the latter. But Motor of Love (at over six minutes) and Ou Est Le Soleil must be two of the weakest tracks to ever close a Paul album. I am divided on How Many People. Sometimes dross, sometimes harmless enough and quite catchy. Put it There is a gem. Probably my favorite song from the album. With My Brave Face.
Another fan of 'Rough Ride' here - one of my favourite tracks on the album. The live version's pretty good too.

Dont forget CHOBA B CCCP/Run Devil Run, Flaming Pie/Driving Ran, and Chaos and Creation/Memory Almost Full thats if Paul wants to reissue those.

Question for ya'll - and I'm sorry if it's already been discussed in this thread (too many pages for me to scroll through)...but are there any plans for any of Paul's side projects (including the fireman releases as well Twin Freaks and others)...I'd especially welcome a Twin Freaks (re)release

Hello Nancy R, Yes, I understand that. It still feels like a rip-off to me. A terrible decision, in my humble opinion. Respectfully, I think it's an insult to fans (intentional or not). And any way we slice it, $176 is outrageous.

Its not much better here in the UK with Amazon selling the box-set for ?134.99 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Flowers-Dirt-Paul-McCartney/dp/B01NBJKG1L/ref=sr_1_4?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1485040242&sr=1-4&keywords=paul+mccartney So that's ?25 each for the 3 cds. ?25 for the dvd ?25 for the book .....and a tenner for the reproduced pieces of paper. Hardly value for money.

Well, yes, that price is outrageous! I pre-ordered mine for $119.97 from Bull Moose, but I think they only ship to the U.S.

Wow! The exchange rate is down to $1.24 (it was $1.65 when I was there last August!) so cost is still pretty high at $167.39.

It looks like a really nice set. The DVD is relatively packed. But overall, it is simply overpriced, and not particularly good value for the money. I think I will opt for the 2LP version. At least I will get the demos. And I never owned the album on vinyl, having bought it on CD in '89. But I will miss out on 25 tracks in total, plus all of the DVD material, which is disappointing. I just can't justify paying $176. Its too much. I have quite a few of the tracks on 45's, etc. But there are some that I've never heard. And it would be nice to have them all in one place. As for Put It There, I could dig out my old VHS copy, I guess, and hook up my old VCR, haha, but the DVD would be more convenient. I guess I'm just disappointed. I bought the other deluxe editions. But this one is more than double the price. And the download thing just rubs me the wrong way, on top of it all.

I'm looking forward to the dvd and booklets included. Still wish the downloads were on a cd.

This manager is so out of touch it's not even funny - yeah....to promote streaming we are making the fanatic that likes to buy the expensive box set have to download the additional bonus material exclusive to the large physical set. There will be Robin Hoods out there in the internet world that will help the small folks that can financially afford the 2 cd set........... The hardcore fans would not be uprising if this was not only exclusive to the $150 set. If this was a download only option via ALL Flowers In the Dirt platforms - that would promote the digital only technology. But the manager's logic of promoting streaming via downloading from the buyer of the physical box set is logical as buying a v8 sports car because it promotes autonomous driving via hybrid technology. Like I said - the internet world will help everyone, regardless of buying the box set or not, be able to obtain these 'exclusive' bonus tracks.

I don't know what to say. Unimpressed. Not happy.

At least they are looking at Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway which is encouraging news.

Well, I'm a hardcore fan and am very content with the upcoming FITD package. Never a huge fan of the album and/or Elvis Costello. And if Wildlife and Red Rose Speedway are in the works, I'm in heaven!
