THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL

Bob Gannon:
I had seen a few people say that the interview said the 8-10 was it so I went back to listen to it because that wasn't what I had gotten out of it. Sure enough, he is talking about it being a "side" business and that he thought that 10 extra releases in 6 years was a good side business. He never says that this would be the end, nor does he say that it will continue but being from a few years back, I don't know if they even knew whether the releases would spur enough interest. As far as that ridiculous post on the WogBlog, there was never a doubt in my mind that they would not finish 40+ sets in 6 years. The person may be right in the long run but let's face it...at this pace, these sets are nowhere near close to finishing if they do continue!
I guess there was something in Scott Rodger's tone that said to me that 8-10 would be enough, considering the massive amount of research and work that goes into them. As he says, there are people employed full-time to do all this archiving. But I suppose you're right: it comes down to whether these sets spur enough interest, and if they do, perhaps they will continue to come out. I do think they're trying to be strategic in the order they're putting them out, focusing on the ones that are best remembered or best reviewed or the most popular or enduring. The problem with albums like Wild Life and Back To The Egg is that they can only have very limited impact in the marketplace, measured against the cost of putting them together. However, I'm sure the full-time employees working on the archives are hoping this goes on as long as possible, the more stretched out the better! They have bills to pay!!

YUP...can confirm that Tug and Pipes are next in line...nothing else announced in the leaflet that comes with the archive editions I received TODAY (mind you I only bought the tri-folds). And that I´m afraid is the end of it. The whole selection process is a bit strange though : If the deciding factor were sales McCartney 2 should`t have been part of the Archive Collection. London Town and even Back to the Egg went patinum in the US while McC 2 only received gold. If available bonus material is what counts SOS and Pipes should have been left out and Speedway (and also BTTE) should have been released. RRS initially was a double album and half of BTTE had videos plus that great song "Cage" that was replaced by that other great song Baby`s Request. So who can make sense of that ?

My feeling is that when he puts out two at a time, that's an opportunity for one to kind of "ride the coattails" of the other. People have fond memories of McCartney, so okay, here's the sequel to that, the rest of the story, in McCartney II. Same with Tug Of War and Pipes Of Peace. (It's been said elsewhere that it's not official that these are the next two, despite the fact that they're mentioned in the V&M/SOS reissues, but who knows?) IF the reissues do continue beyond the "6-year plan" (even just as tri-folds) I do wonder if they'll speed up a little, now that the heavy promotion of New is nearing the end. (Or IS IT???)

"Coming soon to the Archive Collection : Tug of War. Pipes of Peace (covers with the AC stripe on the left)" So I think this is pretty official.

I don't know why Concord would hedge on it now, but they have: http://www.examiner.com/article/mccartney-s-record-label-says-next-reissues-are-not-confirmed-despite-hint "A Concord Music spokesman told Beatles Examiner Oct. 27 that there is indeed a card tucked into the new deluxe editions of the Paul McCartney Wings at the Speed of Sound and Venus and Mars reissues that lists two possible upcoming reissues in the series. But that is not definite and those two albums have not been confirmed as the next releases, the label said."

I posted that link earlier in the thread... But I think it's weird that they would issue a denial about the next albums to come out.

Very strange indeed !!! Maybe they don`t want to comit before they know the reaction to V&M and SOS. Then again nobody forced them to include a card announcing Tug and Pipes. And the initial card when the AC started with BOTR proved 100% correct. The whole thing doesn`t seem to be thought thru. I mean Pipes more or less is an album of leftovers from The Tug of War sessions. Good luck turning that into super deluxe... A bit like SOS. The bonus audio disc is 21 mins. long and contains demo versions of album tracks. Certainly the weakest bonus audio so far...

Not all together true...he said 8 to 10 projects in the 6 year period. I listened to that again today when I saw conversation of it. It doesn' say what the plan is after those 6 years are done. And let's face it, unless you're on the round table of people in the know, I doubt anyone knows for sure if they plan to release. It would be kind of shocking not to see a Red Rose Speedway...I wouldn't mind if the rest become tri-folds..just get them done! I love the nice boxed sets but I'd rather have the music while I'm still young enough to enjoy it! I guess time will tell!!
...At the time that post came out, in 2011, many of the comments were from people wondering if there would still even be CDs by 2016. ...
Off-topic, but Chandler Bing immediately came to mind.

Well, this is why they're putting it out with Tug Of War, I think, as part of the same "story" with George Martin producing, and a lot of material for both albums was demoed at the same time, and even recorded at the same time to an extent. It certainly couldn't stand on its own. Pipes Of Peace could have the following on the bonus disc: demos for several songs, plus: Simple As That Twice In A Lifetime [the tracks that were on the 1993 reissue, although they originally came out later in the eighties] Say Say Say remixes Ode To A Koala Bear Blackpool [supposed to be B-side of The Man single that never got released] perhaps We All Stand Together, plus the "humming version" and the demo [if they don't save it for Broad Street] unreleased songs that aren't on the Tug Of War bonus disc

Don't know if I posted it here but even with the somewhat denial/retraction of MPL saying that POP and TOW may not be next, Paul recently licensed a version of Ode to a Koala Bear on ASCAP. I was checking the site to see if anything new had been licensed and found it. I think this fully supports those sets coming out as it's a POP B Side
-
Impressive conclusion, detective.
-
Yes Audi, it was the same way I found out the titles of the unreleased "New" songs. He licensed them but never released them at that time

I want LT, BTTE and Flaming Pie!!

A record store in San Diego has both Archive Collection of Venus and Mars and Speed of Sound on CD and LP in stock and on sale today! I picked up the Double vinyl LP Venus and Mars! The LP also has a download card from this website. Been listening to Venus and Mars in the car. Sounds amazing!
