THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL
-
I think Favoritething is right; it seems more as a wish list. And if this is really going to happen, I am afraid that the most of the fans have died of old age before we're halfway this list; I mean with the current speed of releases... Anyway, I'm hoping that there will be more than 8 - 10. Because if so, the next two will probably the last ones... And I'm also looking foward to releases as Wild Life/RRS and London Town/Back to the Egg!
-
Paul should release 3 reeditions by year. 3 or more.

I would say highly unlikely. I think someone was dreaming (or hoping) when they put this list together, after the first several. Multi-CD reissues of the live albums? Linda's album?? Holly Days???
I think that list was first leaked just before (or soon after) the series began with the issue of Band On The Run. The fact that the order of releases so far have been basically the same as that of the list suggests ( to me anyway) that the list is genuine. Personally I think it was a 'working list' of how the series of releases were initially planned but has now been somewhat shortened as the releases have fallen way behind schedule.

I can accept that some of the list may have been serious, but mostly it just seems like idle musings, perhaps someone from MPL, but perhaps not. Remember, this was presented as the schedule from 2010-2016. That would mean that about every TWO MONTHS, one of these behemoths would be coming out (or two every four months), for seven years in a row? With all the research and copywriting and interviewing and compiling from tapes, plus manufacturing and promotion? Would that be humanly possible? Lots of fans are miffed at having to buy these expensive products even at this slow rate, but imagine buying all of the ones so far in just over a year, and THEN being presented with a 4-disc reissue of a Linda McCartney album that hardly anyone bought in the first place (not that it was bad, but, you know). And then imagine no less than FIVE new 4-CD boxed sets of unreleased material coming out in that final year of 2016! No one would have money left to go see him in concert, let alone buy all the versions of New and The Art Of McCartney, etc. I'm sorry, these are fun to think about, and the number of CDs and DVDs seems about right for what's available for each album, but I cannot take this seriously.

"A Concord Music spokesman told Beatles Examiner Oct. 27 that there is indeed a card tucked into the new deluxe editions of the Paul McCartney ?Wings At the Speed of Sound? and ?Venus and Mars? reissues that lists two possible upcoming reissues in the series. But that is not definite and those two albums have not been confirmed as the next releases, the label said." http://www.examiner.com/article/mccartney-s-record-label-says-next-reissues-are-not-confirmed-despite-hint
-
I am hoping that material at least up to flowers gets the deluxe treatment. It's a long shot, I know.

I would think (but have no proof of this) that a driving factor, besides actual album success, maybe be how 'ripe' the time period was in regards to unreleased material...for example, the Tug of War/Pipes of Piece time period is ripe with unreleased material as well as the London Town/Back to the Egg time frame...You could truly offer the listener something new with these re-releases vs outtakes and live cuts of the same music that already existed on the album...The first few releases have dabbled with that...but in the time periods I mentioned, you could almost release an entire bonus cd of this stuff (of the already released archive project, the McCII release came closest to doing this)

Very true that these albums are ripe with unreleased material. But I think a bigger factor in the Archive series has to be, "Will this sell enough copies to justify the cost and time put into it?"

I just don't understand... Why can't they just stick to the Wings material first?! Wild Life, Red Rose Speedway, London Town and Back to the Egg, should logically be the next releases. How can you ignore RRS which has one of Paul's biggest hits ever, My Love? London Town that houses With A Little Luck, another huge hit? These albums are much more in need of the proper remastering and release than Tug of War and POP. I mean I wouldn't even buy Pipes of Peace the album is just that bad. Yeah, there's a couple "cute" songs on there, but nothing more. I just get so excited about these releases because it really means something to someone of a younger generation to have this treasure of music in a new, crisp and clean format. Where is the logic to these releases? Led Zeppelin just released their second installment of their remastered catalog today. The first installment was released in June 2014. That's 5 albums remastered, released and including rarities, demos, etc. With a third installment due out. In fact, in the most recent Rolling Stone an interview with Jimmy Page reveals the entire catalog is complete. I don't like to be critical of Paul and/or his team, but this just drives me nuts. They released all of the Beatles albums at once, John's catalog came out all at once. Why must we play the guessing game and be tortured for years and years? By time we get all the albums it'll be due for another remastering!

On one hand, I do wish they had gone chronologically starting with McCartney and Ram, then breaking into Wings starting with Wild Life. On the other hand, I'm glad they got to Band On The Run and Wings Over America rather early into the Wings rereleases. I'm very happy to see "Venus and Mars" coming next. That's one of the biggest ones I was waiting/hoping for. As for what 2 albums could potentially be next...my personal hope is for "Red Rose Speedway" and "Back To The Egg". I also have a guilty pleasure for "Give My Regards To Broadstreet"...a Blu-Ray/remastered album combo would be a dream come true, but I'm sure I'm in the minority there. If they're looking to put out the albums with hits (such as RRS with "My Love"), that would make sense, but so would "London Town"...which would also likely shine some light on "Mull of Kintyre" in the bonus material. I just hope they finish Wings. I'd hate to see the remastering project finish with one or two of the Wings albums left out.

It is to tourturing the fans for sure. This long and torturous wait for the next archive set(s) to come out. It seems to me that Paul's team is so desperate to keep Paul's name relevant by dragging out this material into a never ending piece meal release schedule. Most of the 1st and 2nd generation fans will be dead at this point before finishing the albums or they will cruelly stop and we will have no chance of hearing sonically improved songs and bonus tracks. And forget the career spanning boxed set(s). At this point, Paul's kids (except Beatrice) won't be alive to see it. This is why it is not a good choice when the people involved in projects such as these only case about the business part of it. They need to get a grip and put these things out already....should be no less than 4 a year until they are done. So worried about Grammy nods and keeping Paul's name in the news. News flash people, Paul McCartney is a legend and his name will always be relevant despite his business people pissing off his fans. do the right thing already!

I think they certainly were being a tad over optimistic with that release schedule, and on the potential popularity of some of those titles. But given the 'bonus tracks' have been reduced to the bare minimum on most of the deluxe albums issued so far, I hope those rarity albums will get a release sooner rather than later.

I suspect what you say is true about Grammy nods and keeping his name in the news, but do you happen to know, Bob, if they really intend to put out 40+ reissues in this campaign? I just can't fathom it at all. I would say at the very outside, there's a chance of: Tug of War Pipes of Peace Flowers in the Dirt Wild Life Red Rose Speedway London Town Back To The Egg Flaming Pie But probably most of them would be smaller packages, like tri-fold CD packages or something. Paul's manager did say that only 8 to 10 would get the deluxe treatment.

Not all together true...he said 8 to 10 projects in the 6 year period. I listened to that again today when I saw conversation of it. It doesn' say what the plan is after those 6 years are done. And let's face it, unless you're on the round table of people in the know, I doubt anyone knows for sure if they plan to release. It would be kind of shocking not to see a Red Rose Speedway...I wouldn't mind if the rest become tri-folds..just get them done! I love the nice boxed sets but I'd rather have the music while I'm still young enough to enjoy it! I guess time will tell!!

Thanks for clarifying that, Bob! I hadn't noticed that detail in the interview, but that is very significant. That would still put it at odds with the blog post that said that the entire 40+ titles would be released by the end of 2016. http://wogew.blogspot.com/2011/06/mccartney-archives-collection-schedule.html (That phrase "with hopes" still sets off alarm bells in my head that this list was not really definitive.) At the time that post came out, in 2011, many of the comments were from people wondering if there would still even be CDs by 2016. At this point, it seems clear that CDs will survive for the foreseeable future, at least for special releases such as this (and Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan, etc.).

The whole point is trying to keep the physical medium alive. Young people have grown up with iTunes and iPods and downloading songs has been normal for them. Our generation has been keeping CD's and vinyl alive. We are not ready to lay down Albums or close down all the record stores. Neil Young is a great example. He's disgusted by downloading and the quality of mp3's. The younger people are catching on. The Beatles and Zeppelin and all those other great groups in the past were not just singles bands. They created albums, not downloads!

I had seen a few people say that the interview said the 8-10 was it so I went back to listen to it because that wasn't what I had gotten out of it. Sure enough, he is talking about it being a "side" business and that he thought that 10 extra releases in 6 years was a good side business. He never says that this would be the end, nor does he say that it will continue but being from a few years back, I don't know if they even knew whether the releases would spur enough interest. As far as that ridiculous post on the WogBlog, there was never a doubt in my mind that they would not finish 40+ sets in 6 years. The person may be right in the long run but let's face it...at this pace, these sets are nowhere near close to finishing if they do continue!

I don't think they're ignoring the rest of the Wings albums. I'm sure they'll come out eventually. I don't have a problem with Tug of War and Pipes of Peace coming next. You're talking about albums with hits, but Say Say Say was a bigger hit than My Love or With a Little Luck (in the states). This campaign has never gone in order anyway.
