THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL
-
Bob Gannon:
2nd day with the TOW & POP archive disks. They sound great like the prior released sets. It's nice because the bonus disk and album disks both fit on one 80 minute cd'r for both sets. The promo tri folds don't come with the coming soon cards. The Hoffman board, somebody said that the catalog number for the FITD coming soon card is the same as the POP catalog number and it may be fake. Guess time will tell. My buddy in radio has his deluxe coming so I should know for sure soon Loving the stripped down demos that really allow Paul's voice to shine!
I'm curious about the DVDs. What impressed you the most about them? I'm especially interested in the new promo video for The Man, and also the "making of Take It Away" with Ringo and George Martin. Does it include live performances done between takes of the promo video?
-
Honestly, my promo guys have failed on this release and I have not received the official promo unlike releases in the past so I haven't gotten the DVD. Pals have shared the audio but that's all I have asked for. I have mostly been very disappointed with video content on these sets so it's the one part that I don't look forward to. I'm always more interested in the music and with my sets already ordered, I can wait two weeks to watch the video content

But, from what I am hearing, the bonus audio discs are worthy?.... That's what I've bought these two for.

yes Toris, I'm very happy with the sound of the albums. If you have enjoyed the past remasters, you will love these as well. Much fuller sound. And I love the bonus tracks....the sparse demos I always like as they give Paul's voice more of a chance to shine and be more upfront. It's not on is one that Ive never heard before and it kind of remids me of Robber's Ball if you are familiar with bootlegs. Just by the way it's sung. I was very surprised that the "Simple as That" was not th anti heroin song I was expecting but instead something different

I haven't ordered the POP deluxe yet, as I'm sure there will be plenty of those available later. However, I'm looking forward to receiving my TOW super deluxe, as it sold out quickly.
-
I too got supr deluxe but also ordered POP as well in deluxe. Looking forward to having them in my hands. But I think bonus track wise, I would say POP is a little better having listened to both

Too bad he will probably not include songs from these remasters (apart from Here Today) in his upcoming concerts. Fans would be thrilled.

Would be a great opportunity to do some kind of arrangement that segued the song Tug of War into Pipes of Peace.... How awesome would that be.....I still think the former is an underrated gem.
-
Tug Of War straight into Pipes Of Peace would certainly be a highlight onstage.

Don't hold your breath! Lol!

That's a brilliant idea! Hey, Stuart Bell, are you reading this? Time for the Bell to tell Paul something.

But really, though, I'm getting the feeling that we're never going to see Wild Life, RRS, London Town, and BTTE in these archive sets. All the sets so far have highlighted albums that Paul sees as accomplishments: Band On The Run - widely hailed as a masterpiece, finally proved he could be taken seriously and be wildly popular away from the Beatles McCartney and McCartney II - proved that he could create compelling music totally on his own, and they have clearly gained in critical approval over the decades, with the latter album sometimes cited as groundbreaking (not by everyone, but by many!) RAM - proved that he could do big productions away from the Beatles and George Martin; mixed critical reaction at the time, but has improved tremendously since then Wings Over America - a document of Paul's first big world tour away from the Beatles, one of the legendary tours of the '70s Venus & Mars - kept up the momentum of Band On The Run, showed a band really starting to gel as a unit Speed Of Sound - two huge hit singles, with a band operating as a tight unit ready to conquer the world Tug Of War - often cited as a masterpiece, reunited Paul with George Martin and successfully paired him with Stevie Wonder and Carl Perkins, paid tribute to John Pipes Of Peace - contained two big worldwide hits, sees him collaborate with Michael Jackson, the biggest star on the planet at the time Flowers In The Dirt - after some critical drubbing in the mid-eighties, he proved himself as a serious artist once again, collaborating with Elvis Costello and others to create an album he could tour with, his first tour in a decade Those other four albums, while exciting to fans, show a band in its first tentative baby steps and in its disintegration. London Town, preceded by "Mull Of Kintyre," came out right in the middle of the punk movement, setting him up for relentless mocking by the rock press, and you can sense Paul's annoyance in interviews done at the time. I love the album top to bottom, but it hasn't really won over the critics the way RAM has.

I take it these are just the Rude Studio demos which have been knocking around for years? The pitch correction and enhanced sound quality will be welcome but, as we were made aware with the Beatles anthologies, there are always many alternate takes and versions of songs worked through in the studio before they reach a final version, sometimes 40 or 50 versions. Obviously not all of these are worth hearing, but surely there must be at least one alternate studio take of each song worth releasing and which hasn't already been bootlegged. The Archive Project has had nothing like this thus far - it's doing the job the 1993 collection was supposed to - collect the b-sides and offer a bonus to get you to re-purchase. But this is NOT an archive project. It's just a nonsense.

I won Wings at the Speed of Sound 2 disc (which I didn't have in Deluxe) on a Beatles cruise trivia contest!
Congratulations, that's brilliant. Did you actually choose the prize or was it just good luck that it was a prize that you'd appreciate?
It was the prize for that particular Beatles trivia question and they almost didn't want to give it to me because they figured I already had it! But I said no, I didn't get that one! (I do have Venus & Mars remastered) Back story: This is a Beatles group that I've been with for several cruises & trips, headed by DJ Joe Johnson who does Beatles Brunch out of Florida. http://brunchradio.com/ I'm not going on that Flower Power Cruise next year as a friend & I are going to London & Liverpool with the Magical History/Mystery Tour.

If true then I am happy for this to be on the list. However, like the other members have stated, why not the other releases and at a much faster pace?
Because they were working on the Beatles 1 project maybe?

That certainly worked out well all round in the end.

If Paul really does see Pipes Of Peace as an 'accomplishment' then he really does need his head examining.

Possibly, but even still they have had 5 (nearly 6) years since the first archive releases. If they had done 3 per quarter we might have most of them out already.

I think that this is just a real silly comment. So many things go into making these things that this is just a young, impatient and unrealistic thought. First off, Paul has his hand In Everything and with his busy schedule makes things tough right away. The. There's designing the whole lot. Let us not forget that they must book time with the people doing the remasters/remixing. It's not like they only work for Paul and then of course there's promotion and let us not forget distribution. United does the distribution and again, this is a label that distributes for 100's of artists. I agree that I wish things were sped up but I can see where things get snagged up
