2017 Setlist Speculation Thread

I wonder if Paul will say anything about Roger Moore, who passed away today at age 89, when he plays Live And Let Die next.
The way the band intros it now, I doubt it. There's all this mysterious fog and low non-harmonic tones rumbling and bubbling...no time to chat.

Awwwww, that is so sad. Sorry to hear that. I remember him as "The Saint" also.

Bruce M.:
People's reactions to songs (mine included) are personal and not entirely rational, so for those who love "I'll Be On My Way," go in peace and enjoy. I still think it's drivel. But a lot of people shake their heads at me when I say I love "Feet in the Clouds," so your mileage may definitely vary.
_______________________________________________________ Very fair Bruce. I like "Feet in the Clouds" and also love Vintage Clothes and That Was Me. Why didn't Paul ever do all 3 songs in a row at one of his shows is beyond me. Getting back to the subject of this thread, Paul never made the transition back in 2002 or 2005 to give his live shows more balance to his overall career. Maybe Paul (and others in his team) are right...you have to play Beatles and Wings' hits to get the people (at least in the US) to pay those prices to fill the stadiums/arenas. I will give him all the credit for giving the casual and first timers their money's worth. The Beatles always had that blue collar worth ethic. As Yankeefan and I have repeatedly said...it is a shame he has so "shortchanged" the bulk of his music career by going that route so much. In retrospect, it would have just taken in my opiniont a small adjustment (e.g. 3-4 songs each year/tour) with putting in great songs he never played from Tug of War, Flaming Pie, Chaos, MAF etc. By the way, I never liked the Billy J. Kramer version of "I'll Be on My Way"...too schmaltzy. It took the Beatles to do their own version with that Macca melodic "bounce" that turned me on to the song but as you say...music is personal. Just a little note...Ali (I forget his last name) one of the singers from UB40 heard "I'll Be on My way" and he said the Band loved it and they felt they had to record it for one of their albums. Of course it is "reggae" style and much better than Billy J. Kramer's version in my opinion. Bruce, do you have Sirius Radio and have you heard the new Beatles channel. Think you would like it.
Alas, I don't have Sirius. I'm cheap. But this may eventually cause me to rethink if they keep the Beatles channel around. It does sound interesting.
-
I don't have Sirius, I can easily shuffle my entire musical library from my MP3 device fully loaded with all my CDs. Regardless, my girlfriend has it and I commandeered the radio last week when it debuted (she's not the driver often...) Anyway, they play an incredible spread of music. Beatles songs I remember hearing included All You Need is Love, The Night Before, Don't Let Me Down, Hello Goodbye, If I Needed Someone...that's all I can think of. The solo songs were the most interesting assortment (although NOTHING from John!)...heard Junior's Farm, Maybe I'm Amazed from Paul...Isn't it a Pity, Love Comes to Everyone from George...Oh My My, and Snookeroo from Ringo! There may have been a few others...then, they play songs that supposedly "influenced" the Beatles...this part was a little weak. It was Chuck Berry almost everytime...and then they randomly included "Take Good Care of My Baby"...
-
Sirius is playing a lot of solo John. I heard Elvis Presley doing Yesterday/Hey Jude today.

Short 'She's Leaving Home' try-out by Brian or Rusty during the Budokan soundcheck:
Their boss isn't able to sing this song any more, but at least they're trying some new old stuff out... for a few seconds. -
As some of you know, I (and others like Yankeefan and Bruce) have been critical by Paul's setlists in recent years. Mainly the frustration centers on his lack of including a handful of great (and different) Solo songs each tour/year from his prodigious Post 1980 Catalog. Attending this year's Abbey Road festival (in the Louisville KY area) I was at least able to get my "Paul Solo" fix for a live show last night. You can read my full report in the Yesterday Section on this Site. It took a Band from Brazil (South America loves "all" of the Beatles music) to finally hear a Paul Solo performance. It was fantastic! Again I'll list the bulk of the songs in their setlist in the other Section of this site. PS the young guy whose name is Mario had a great "young" Macca voice.

Yeah, unfortunately Wingsbanned was not there this year. They have had numerous Paul solo acts there

what if he replaced Maybe I'm Amazed with Another Day so as to stick with the linda tribute.

Those are apples and oranges on musical terms, regardless of subject matter. He obviously wants a piano ballad for Linda...but his options aren't limited there. Without considering his voice, he could easily swap in...My Love, Warm and Beautiful, Golden Earth Girl...just to name a few off the top of my head.

Warm and Beautiful would be a fantastic addition. Tuned down of course, but would be as intimate as HT&E if done right

Absolutely. It would be incredible and has that classic macca quality that makes even first-time listeners think they know the song.

_______________________________________________________ I always liked Golden Earth Girl, one of my favorite songs on Off the Ground. Vocally, I don't think Paul could do Warm and Beautiful now but maybe Golden Earth Girl. This is one thing that drives me crazy about Macca. He never has done either song.

I don't think he could pull off either song. Here's Golden Earth Girl. https://www.bing.com/search?q=golden%20earth%20girl%2C%20paul%20mccartney&qs=n&form=QBRE&sp=-1&pq=golden%20earth%20girl%2C%20paul%20mccartney&sc=0-33&sk=&cvid=E8ACDBEA7BDA4BB7BBD9204AB2CF118A

He could do them in lower keys, something he has slowly been integrating a bit more.

I only realised during the whole Pepper buzz, not having heard many of these songs in years, that a reason for transposing 'Lovely Rita' live could have been Wix not being able to do the glissando at the end of the piano solo when played in the key it was originally released in.

Absolutely, but not just Wix. It's easier on everybody when a song is definitely in a given westernized musical key.

I look forward to hearing a couple of songs from the upcoming album next time he comes to Brazil. I hope the album will have been released by then! Regarding the rest of the setlist, I don't expect many changes. Perhaps he will keep "Sgt Pepper" and " I Wanna Be Your Man".
-
maybe he'll pull out Hope of Deliverance for Brazil, although he didn't do it last time
