2017 Setlist Speculation Thread

I actually like Temporary Secretary, Let Me Roll It, Mr Kite. If I was given the magical power of axing three songs they would be And I Love Her, Eleanor Rigby, and My Valentine. Oh well Since Save Us was brought up, I never understood why it wasn't in a rotation for the 2nd song spot with I Can Bet. A big missed opportunity that was actually within his setlist "rules." And still put me down on record for one true surprise tomorrow. Got a feeling. Although I am probably saying that since I'll be there.
I'm totally over AILH, ER, & MV too...but, I know they aren't leaving anytime soon. Maybe "And I Love Her" will slip off for another acoustic Beatle tune one of these days...but it hasn't budged since 2012. "I Can Bet" deserved its own slot. It should have gone where "Paperback Writer" was in the 2013 setlist.

So as we probably all saw today, Macca did an interview with Rolling Stone and said that there are three surprises, and one of them he said was including "Sgt Pepper's". Do you think it'll still be the Reprise that he played in Tokyo, or do you think he worked up the actual song with the band? He played it for the GRAMMY Salute back in 2014, and I thought he pulled it off quite nicely. I think we can all agree there are certain songs that Macca needs to pull out of the setlist. However, I can see his reasoning. The average person going to his concert aren't the die hard fans we are. Usually it's the classic Mom and Dad who are Beatles fans who want to hear those hits such as Eleanor Rigby, And I Love Her, Let It Be, Hey Jude, etc. What would be cool is if Macca announced a show or a tour of himself performing material that he genuinely wants to play. I have a feeling that he's playing these Beatles hits mainly because the majority of the fans are only Beatles fans. I would absolutely love to hear Paul add in some of his tremendous solo work from a wide range of his albums such as hits from Pipes of Peace, maybe something like Put it There, or Distractions from Flowers in the Dirt, or maybe including some more material from RAM. I could go on forever.... but it would be nice to hear something different, rather than those Beatles hits he's been playing since the 89/90 tour.

Totally agree. As for the interview, I interpret it as the full version because he calls it a surprise and refers to the internet always knowing the surprises which, we would obviously already know about the reprise making an appearance in Japan. However, Paul may not realize that that is the case and could simply be discussing the reprise.

[..] I know I'm in the minority, but I never tire of Let Me Roll It. [..]
I love the song, I don't even mind his wrecked 10's live vocals on it, but it's that song at that spot with that introduction which makes it a "down to earth" moment for me. If he would pull an "Antwerp 2012" on it - when they went wild and 'Drive My Car' suddenly appeared in the encore - it's probably refreshed for me again. Just put 'Getting Better' - see how low my barrier became lol - at that spot and chuck 'Let Me Roll It' somewhere at 3/4th of the set and it's already a big improvement.
I'd love if he swapped Let Me Roll It with Hi, Hi, Hi and vice versa. Would work, freshen things up
-
I can't see "Let Me Roll It" working in the encore. "Hi, Hi, Hi" could work in many places...encore, latter electric set, opening electric set...I think it would even make a killer opener.

That's cool...can imagine "Hi Hi Hi" as a galvanizing opener

It'd be a great festival opener

I would love to see Paul do this, or play an entire album as a special for TV. For example Heart played "Dreamboat Annie" and Styx played "Grand Illusion" and "Pieces of Eight". How about Paul playing "Rubber Soul" or the "Flaming Pie" albums in their entirety?

It takes the right album to work in sequence and on stage. I don't think he should even consider attempting any of The Beatles' albums. He would receive nothing but scrutiny on his voice and the lack of the other three that made those records. If he had tackled it somewhere between like 1973 and 1993, "Ram" would have been a great contender for this concept. If Chaos and Creation didn't have the negativity attached to it for Paul that it now does, I would suggest that one...but we'll never see that, probably the same for Memory Almost Full. So what I'm getting at, is that I think there are two records he could pull this off with: "Band on The Run" and "Flaming Pie". He could do a 45 minute Beatles set, intermission to refresh, then play the record, then an encore of the standard Beatles/Wings necessities.

If there are songs Macca's avoiding live because he can't hit the high notes anymore, maybe he should try downtuning by a half or full step. Led Zeppelin did that for the O2 reunion in 2007, and it worked very well. I thought it gave Plant enough room to sing songs he had trouble singing live since his voice started to give out in September 1971.

I feel the same way Bob.

The problem is that he isn't avoiding them! "Maybe I'm Amazed" seems to be communally accepted as the one song that has GOT to go for the sheer embarrassment, night after night. It is not a song that can be corrected with a key change. It needs to be sung by a young man with a raw voice OR Paul needs to re-imagine the arrangement for this time in his life. But since it is pretty much his magnum opus for Linda, I don't see that happening.

Since he has basically done all of BOTR live, it would not be that big a deal to me, "Flaming Pie" would be more interesting live IMO.

He could do "My Love" for Linda. While he still may not sing that very well anymore either it would probably be better than "Maybe I'm Amazed"

Reading his RS interview, it sounded basically like the same old set list to me. He did mention throwing in the song "Sgt. Pepper" but he has done that before so it is no big deal IMO.

It would be nice to see "Let Me Roll' it go since it has been played to death but he has done "Hi Hi Hi" a bit also so I would rather hear something completely different.

Spare a thought for poor old Mamunia - the only track from BOTR that's he's never done live. (I don't count Helen Wheels as a BOTR track btw)
