Most of the songs on that list he will never, ever play

honestly, I don't care what he plays for the most part. If I see him this summer, I'll see about 10-15 songs (based off of Tokyo) I've never seen live and i'm ok with that, although I wish FITD could be included. - A Hard Day's Night - Can't Buy Me Love - Letting Go - Temporary Secretary - Here, There and Everywhere (if played) - Love Me Do - In Spite of All The Danger - You Won't See Me - The Fool on The Hill - FourFiveSeconds - I Wanna Be Your Man - Sgt Pepper's Reprise - Birthday While I wish there were more (and better selections in general), that's enough to justify seeing him and he's Paul freak-ing McCartney anyways. You Won't See Me and Letting Go alone are worth it!
___________________________________________ Flowers on the Run, Don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm in any way. You're excited and that is all that counts. One thing for sure, Paul will go all out and put on a great show. I have seen Paul many times since the 1989-1990 tour. I have also been a huge Beatles fan since 1964 at the age of 15. This combination has me a little "burned out" on the same songs that Paul continues to play. About half of the songs above I have heard on previous shows. The rest with the exception of Hard Day's Night, You Won't See Me, and Here There & Everywhere (if he does it) just doesn't excite me. But I certainly understand and appreciate others who are really looking forward to seeing him again. And for people who are seeing him for the 1st or maybe 2nd time, it is a dream come true.. That's the way I felt in 1990 (flowers in the dirt tour) and 1993 (Off the Ground tour). Have a great time.
Excellent post BJ. You and I are not knocking fans who have not seen him live as much as we have and want to hear the hits. I have seen McCartney from 1976 to 2010 live so I am like you and want to hear more from his entire career live. My wife knows I am a major fan and she is surprised that I would not want to see him again and I have explained my reasons to her. For me to change my mind, he would really have to "refresh" his current show - lol. It would take something like 2-3 songs from a new album, couple of songs from FITD and maybe 2-3 solo songs I have never heard live. I would not even mind a different Beatle song if it was something like "Rocky Raccoon" - lol. Finally, my other wish is that he would "refresh" some of the stories he tells between songs.
_______________________________________________________ Yankee fan, you hit it right on the head for long time Macca fans like us. Your definition of "refresh" relative to the setlist is exactly like mine. I've been to all of his tours (except 2016) and there is very little in the 2017 Tokyo shows that will entice me to go to his upcoming US shows. And Tampa is in my backyard! The reason as we have said is that we have attended too many of his shows and want more variety. The only other tour I didn't make was 1976 and that was the one show (NYC or Philadelphia) I missed seeing the most. That was the real "bold" McCartney. While the press was begging for more Beatles' songs at the time, he told them to just go the show and tell him if the audience doesn't have a great time. He was one of the first big name artist's that actually did shows that were close to 3 hours and I think he only did 5 Beatle songs. In 1976 he had the biggest show on the planet. How refreshing that his opening number was Venus & Mars/Rock Show and his closing song was Soily. Talk about obscure...he didn't care. It rocked and the crowd went nuts.
My in-laws (my wife's sister) live in Tampa and invited us to come down to Tampa and go to the concert with them. Obviously, we would have a place to stay and the drive is not that bad from Charlotte. My wife was semi-shocked when I said no and that I would rather visit them later in the summer. It just came down to not wanting to spend a couple of hundred dollars on tickets, the drive back and forth to see him do songs I have heard in a better voice. The 1976 WOA tour was wonderful. It was a Wings concert, not a Beatle Paul concert and like you said the crowd went nuts. Wings rocked as a band and McCartney was at the height of his vocal power back then. In retrospect, it was awesome that he was trying to distance himself from the Beatles in 1976. I understand he wanted to reclaim his legacy in the Beatles but IMO he went a little bit too far in concert. You and I have stated many times, we just wanted more balance in his shows but unfortunately I think his ego gets in the way. If he is not getting a huge response after every song it seems to bother him which is amazing to me. I think he gets plenty of adulation every show with the Beatle/Wings songs and if he gets polite applause during solo songs he really needs to not get so concerned about it. Finally, I have posted several times I would love to have him do "Soily" as the end of the first encore song especially with his current band !!

True, but there are song played in the past in this list: I wanna hold your, during the 2005 tour rehearsals (Brian Ray chat)- It wont be long, during the unplugged rehearsals (Chip Madinger book) and Lucy in the sky, during "Simply Shakespear night" in 2013.
-
corchians:
I wanna hold your hand Maxwell Silver hammer Martha my dear Lucy in the sky What's your doing I'll be on my way I feel fine Baby's in black You never give me your money (Complete electric version) It won't be long Here my idea of refresh show
The song is "What You're Doing" and I've been campaigning for him to do it for years! I agree with Bob, though. He'll most likely never do any of them.

Getting back to Solo songs, I think there is only one chance that Paul plays a couple from FITD on this US leg. In my opinion, here is the only way it could happen. Paul is still very good friends with Elvis Costello. If Elvis wants to make a guest appearance (or agrees to be a surprise guest) at one of the upcoming shows (New York would probably be the obvious choice) then Paul might probably have the band start doing a couple of FITD in anticipation of Elvis's appearance. I know it is a long shot at best, but you never know. If that scenario would actually happen, then My Brave Face would certainly be one obvious song since it was jointly written and is a great, Beatlesque style song. Not sure what the 2nd would be. My vote would be "You Want Her Too" since Paul and Elvis could trade off on the lyrics. I know...here I am dreaming again.

I like u idea! But the dream should finish in the shape, that this additions works very well live and McCartney finally recognizes the potential of post 1980 songs...

You Want Her Too is too high for 2017 Paul. I'd love to see them do So Like Candy together though

________________________________________________________ Yes, it is the only way I could see a couple additional Solo songs and specifically FITD era songs. Elvis can sing practically anything. After My Brave Face maybe they could do Elvis singing Veronica with Paul playing bass. It is yet another great collaboration from the 2 of them.
-
Besides My Brave Face, I would love That Day is Done and/or Lovers That Never Were. The problem is that I don't think Paul can sing either song at this point. These 2 songs (collaborations with Paul and Elvis) were not just decent tracks, they were GREAT songs that are every bit on a par with great Beatle songs. Unfortunately, the time for either (or both) songs to have been done was during the 2002 and 2005 tours when Paul could still sing them. Anyway, I'll go back to Veronica. Like My Brave Face, it is a fun, beatlesque style song. Again, the only way something like this would even remotely happen is if Mr. Costello was going to make a guest appearance.

He could sing That Day is Done or My Brave Face. As far as non-Costello FITD songs, This One and Put It There are doable, maybe Figure of Eight.

But the big question is where would you put those songs in the set list and what would you remove. They would have to be played back to back since Elvis Costello will be doing them with McCartney. You and I could cut two songs easy but McCartney loves those Beatle/Wings songs so what do you think he would remove.

_______________________________________________________ You're right Yankeefan. You and I could easily cut 2 songs since there are probably 15-20 Beatle/Wings/Solo songs on the Tokyo setlists that are non-essential (not signature songs). We know that Paul would know plenty in advance what show where Elvis would be a surprise guest. So maybe a couple of shows right before Elvis's appearance, they could do the 2 FITD songs so the band and Paul gets in a little practice. Lucky for the fans at those shows. This would force Paul to cut a couple of songs even before Elvis's show. As I said, there are so many songs that Paul could cut without hurting the experience for 1st timers that want to hear Beatle songs. How about Temporary Secretary or 4-5 Seconds for starters. As far as cutting songs toward from the latter half of the setlist (where Elvis would probably join Paul) he could cut even Beatle songs like Mr. Kite or Want to Be Your Man. Again, not essential Beatle songs. I think the Miami show is going to be real interesting. Several questions beg to be answered: *will the delay (for production enhancements?) in the first show of this US leg (albeit just 2 days) effect the setlist in any way *what will be the status of Paul's voice (e.g. will he still try to do MIA or decide to take it out in advance of his heavy touring season) *will Paul make any new additions that weren't played at any of the Tokyo shows. We will know in just about a month's time

"*will the delay (for production enhancements?) in the first show of this US leg (albeit just 2 days) effect the setlist in any way I can't see how changing the set list and maybe some lighting would cause a two day delay. My goodness, this is a rock icon who has had the same touring band for over a decade. In addition, his road team has traveled all over the world and set up for hundreds of concerts so it has to be something beside set list changes. *what will be the status of Paul's voice (e.g. will he still try to do MIA or decide to take it out in advance of his heavy touring season) His voice is what you might expect a 75 year old man who has not really taken care of it that well to sound like. He can sound good on mid tempo type Beatle songs but some other things he sounds weak to me. As for MIA, he will continue to do it no matter how bad he may crack singing it. *will Paul make any new additions that weren't played at any of the Tokyo shows. I would think he would do something but fairly minor. Maybe something different from Sgt. Pepper but not expecting anything else. Hearing something from FITD would be nice but I would not count on it. If he does do something from FITD and it does not get decent reaction from the audience, he probably would pull it quick - lol.

Production Enhancements = No demand for 2nd nights in FL cities SO cutting costs on travel/lodging for a massive road crew, band, and well...Paul.

Yankeefan, I agree with you that we might get a minor change or two in Miami bringing in a couple of Beatle songs over a couple he did in Tokyo. I would think that someone would be bringing up Penny Lane to Paul. Penny Lane is one of his monsters compared to something like I Want to Be Your Man. Penny Lane is also on the new Sgt. Pepper Remix 2 Disc set. It would really baffle me if he doesn't do it on this leg. I also wouldn't be surprise if he did "When I'm 64" on this leg. It is another Pepper song that all the "boomers" know and he has never done it before. Plus it is relatively easy to sing and everyone would join in. Like you, I don't expect anything from FITD. I would think that if there is any thought of having or asking Elvis Costello to make a guest appearance, it probably would be for the 9/15 Madison Square Garden concert. Those people attending the Newark NJ right before would have the best chance to hear something from FITD. We know that Mr. and Mrs. Elvis Costello (Diana Kroll) are real good friends of Paul. A long shot at best but it would create a lot of buzz for the tour.

Yep, I could see "Penny Lane" being done which would be fine with me. I know I have heard him do it and loved it, forget which tour. He should have done "When I Am 64" eleven years ago - ha ha. I agree if Elvis Costello plays it has to be one of those NY area dates and the Garden makes the most sense IMO.

That kind of sucks for all the people who had made early travel plans for the original Miami date but you are probably correct.

He did Hope Of Deliverance at the first Orlando 2013 show. I was there. I was happy to hear it, but overall, it didn't get much of a reaction. By the 2nd show, it was gone. As far as any setlist changes, I'm betting there will be NOTHING from Flowers In The Dirt. But I predict he adds in a full band version of Fixing A Hole and/or Penny Lane (due to Sgt Pepper anniversary reissue), at the expense of other songs. Not sure which. Beyond that, I expect the same old setlist.
It seems he did Hope Of Deliverance once to see how the audience would react, and since it wasn't the reaction he wanted, he decided not to do it anymore. When I'm 64 is from Sgt. Pepper. I wonder why he hasn't done it yet? Now is the time.
