Tattoo signatures - yay or nay?

I like the fact that Paul, on this tour especially, is interacting with fans more than ever. When else has Paul been pulling someone on stage almost every show? He's trying, and I appreciate that. That's why I'm getting so annoyed by folks who are talking about how he should stop doing that. For that one person, it's a once in a lifetime experience. Before, no one got that feeling at shows, or it was a real rarity. Why begrudge that person who gets their dream achieved? Yes, it's sad for everyone else, but I'd rather have one person up there than no one. Again, he's trying, he's having fun, so why be a gloomy gus about that? Let the man enjoy himself, and sit back and have fun at the shows. D

Yeah I don't really think it's getting THAT old at all! These people get the opportunity of a lifetime, I don't think it's fair to be a Bitter Betty about it. That being said though, I do wonder if he'll continue this "tattoo idea" for the next tours or if we're all going to have to be creative and come up with something else.
-
I like the idea of him continuing this kind of fan interaction, and am dying of curiosity to see the next original idea that someone has to get onstage. Maybe Paul, please do the macarena with me!
-
I agree, Jen. Got to compare him to other performers--I remember we were talking about Mick Jagger and how, if you are up close to him at a concert, he never connects with anyone visually or acknowledges them verbally. It's like he is in an empty arena or at least it was when I last saw the Stones in 1994. Quite a contrast between that and the way Paul comes across, especially having fans like you on stage. Helps make it better for everyone, whether you get called up on stage or not.

Did you see the girl dance onstage with him in Mexico? Reminded me of go go dancers.
-
I totally agree, John, and not just because we had a few beers together. ) Oh, and I will definitely check out Paul dancing with the girl in Mexico--I love watching him dance, for some reason, mostly because he's as bad at it as I am, lol.

As one of those who didn't manage to get onstage for a tattoo (and, yes, my friend and I had a sign) I will say that the tattoo signs are NUMEROUS so originality definitely counts. And I will agree that the women he has pulled on stage so far have basically been young... . . . . no offense. Just wish he would pull someone in the "over 40" category one time. But, all that said, I like that Paul wants to interact with the audience and it is kind of like the lottery to see who might get up there. My friend and I were paying very close attention to him in Pittsburgh (2nd night) and he seemed to tell someone about the Flaming Pie Thigh girl (sorry - don't remember your name!) after they left the floor the first time. We pretty much knew she was coming back up, and sure enough, it was her. More power to her! And I LOVED that she had that camera with her to take the pic of her and Paul together. So cute! On the NEGATIVE side of the Tattoo Wars, there was a young girl sitting behind where I was (7th row floor on the aisle, Rusty's side) and she kept running down the aisle jumping up and down like a maniac. Now, I don't disparage this behaviour for the most part, but it got really old after about the 10th time. Even after he had already signed the Flaming Pie girl. So I would say, give it a rest, at least after he has already signed someone!!!

I would probably do it as it would be, for me, THE single best reason to get a tattoo! (And I sent 6 years in the Navy without getting one!) Having said that, I'm also inclined to agree that, yes, it's becoming a tad old hat!

i am sure marta is 41... thats what she claims even though she looks much younger ... don't worry marta i believe you it's a compliment! you look a lot younger! anyway... maybe younger people are more willing to get a tattoo or have more energy to keep the sign held up who knows... i don't think it matters as long as paul and the fan have a connection about age (and i'm not a young girl anymore so don't go there) going to get myself a fake paul signature tattoo the only one i will ever get just to be in the spirit i think its great

So, who's the woman they interviewed on the TV news? It showed a dark haired woman, sitting at her kitchen table showing off her Paul siggie tattoo she had done after she got onstage & he signed her back? I nearly fell outta bed when I saw that! WHO was it??

I was pulled up on stage at the very end of the first show in Pittsburgh. It was unbelievable, the best moment of my life, and the best moment I will ever have in my life. I'm surprised to see negativity here. I wasn't the first, but that does not lessen the fact that I met Paul McCartney! PAUL MCCARTNEY!!!! I have the tattoo on my shoulder to remind me every day of my life of that moment. I'm beyond thrilled and always will be!
I was also surprised by the negative comments on this board. I haven't been through the recent threads and posts, but I'd like to say hello. Paul has given you a beautiful gift...we should spread the love ...you know? That's what this is all about. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

It is a bummer not to get the recognition for those who want to get signed, but if you think about it, it's mathematically impossible for Paul to be able to meet all of his fans (or sign all the ones who wish to be signed). There's new ones born every day and there are fans who have been there since the beginning, so it's millions and millions of people to one. Anyway, I thought I'd mention here that I am thinking about getting a tattoo! This is a 180 degree shift for me b/c I never considered myself "a tattoo person." I'm not 100 percent sure about it though, b/c I don't like putting myself through pain unnecessarily. The tatt I'm thinking of getting is Paul-related, but it has multiple meanings, as is the case with most body art. Those with tatts, let me know what you think!
I think it's a great idea! First of all, the pain isn't that bad...I'm the BIGGEST wuss and routinely pass out when getting blood drawn, shots, etc. But...tattoos haven't been that big of a deal to me. The one on my foot was really uncomfortable, but not really painful, if you know what I mean. Plus - if it has to do with Paul (and other things that mean a lot to you) you'll be fine. I know there will never be a time when I don't love The Beatles/Paul, so I'll never regret my tattoos. Although...I do have a dolphin tattoo...that one - I could live without. I got it when I was in school to be a marine biologist. I work in PR, so obviously that career field didn't work out for me. oops.
Thanks Sarah; you've given me a vote of confidence that I could make it through the pain; especially if I get it done on my back where I can't see them coming at me with the needle Once I find a good, clean place that will do exactly what I want, I will show off the finished product here!
-
I agree with Sarah, I am a TOTAL wuss but I managed to get a nice Lennon inspired tattoo on my ankle and the pain was manageable. Obviously the closer to a bone, the more it's going to hurt (he tattooed over a little bit of my ankle bone and wow never doing that again). But if you get the tattoo in a meatier part of your body, if that makes sense, then the pain is definitely tolerable.

I'm not one who handles pain well, but the tattoo on my upper arm wasn't that bad. It's definitely a meaty area, so the only mildly uncomfortable part was the coloring, which frankly hurt less than an innoculation does. Go for it!

OK, I'd just like to say it is kinda 'sad' for us girls who have been following Paul, for years, who haven't had the oppurtunity... for sign-o-graph~ I know many of them, quite a few that do not post here.. if Macca continues on this wth this FAB experience.. which is lovely btw I'm hoping he will include his followers- the die hards. I'm not mentioning names cos, they know who they are ~ some older girls, would be nice- ones less than perfect with flaws, besides the 20 somethings- please don't get pissy either.. a mixture would be nice of women of different walks of life~ Danica excluded, cos she is a mere 19 & my friend... carry on!~
