10 real nice pictures in the Chicago Tribune already tonight!
-
To those who attended - did he seem tired, energetic or ?? I was a bit worried him doing 3 concerts so close together upon returning after his illness.

Yes! Classic Paul! Energetic, interactive, solid vocals early on. One or two minor vocal cracks, but exceptionally good for a man in his 70s. So many comments from concertgoers about how he doesnt take a break or drink water. A lot of people said he looked really good...and he did!
-
I was concerned, too, but he looked great and had his usual high energy- non stop playing. If anything, he looked a tad thinner to me but you wouldn't have known he'd been sick. What I DID notice was that his voice was in GREAT form. Great crowd- everyone had fun. I went VIP and thought sound check was fantastic, though he didn't call anyone up He did smile at one of my signs during the show, though. No one was called up on stage for that, either. Perfect Paul evening. If you've been hesitating getting tickets, don't!

A few of my photos from the concert:
-
Paul's hair in this photo reminds me of the World Tour hair back in '90, only a bit brighter.
-
Also worth mentioning, "Live and Let Die" had a cool intro. A sustained buildup went into the opening chords...lots of smoke and lights leading into the song. Pretty cool little addition!

Yes....did the same thing in Albany.

He seemed tired at soundcheck but he BROUGHT IT for the show!

[quote="LetMeRollIt89"]A few of my photos from the concert Great pics! I need to get mine up soon. I saw Nancy go by twice during the show. She came out from behind stage & later towards the end went back in. She must have been seating in the audience. Glad that she is a fan! wink

I like your sound-check set better than what we heard in Albany.....would have loved to have heard Coming Up and Bluebird--the latter is one of my favorite Wings tunes. Any more details on the concert?? You guys seem a bit low-key regarding this show. I don't mean that in a bad way--just there was a lot more detail from Albany. How was the buffet and what kind of exclusive items did you get? Anyone get called up on stage?
-
As I posted elsewhere...maybe in the Philly thread...Albany was his first show back so there was GREAT excitement from everyone. Many did the setlist watch for the 1st show...now we all know how it goes. Exclusive items are always the same for the rest of the shows. I don't think they have ever varied, have they? And I haven't posted my pics yet so I will be back with some. Got a bit of video too. He was on fire for the show!

VIP items the same as other shows, as always...backpack, program (a big for that as it saved me buying one), travel mug. Buffet was 3 kinds of pasta, salads, but what was nice is that we got appetizers before the soundcheck...that rarely happens. Paul was very high-energy during the show and the crowd was very loud, which he liked. Lots of loud singing during Let It Be. Very loud response to "let's hear it for John." i think he let the Na Na's in Hey Jude go on a bit longer because he liked what he was hearing from the crowd. Nobody got called up on stage at either soundcheck or the main show. Which is why IMHO people should not get crazy hopeful about that happening, I think. Does not happen at every show. Ok soapbox mode off. No On My Way to Work so I think Albany was a test-drive for it, the song didn't get the response he wanted, so I don't think it is going to return. What else did you want to know?

Nice write up in the Tribune this morning. Alot of interesting details http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/chi-paul-mccartney-concert-review-20140709,0,7206684.column FWIW, I think fans are worrying about the illness way to much. He had a virus, anyone can get one. if it had been truly serious you likely would have seen a scaling back of either the show or the dates. Instead the shows are still 2'45 and the dates are being expanded. I think it is being treated as a one time thing that had nothing to do with touring. RamblinRed

Sorry but I think you are wrong. He is a commodity that they have to sell & I seriously doubt that they would tell anyone (papers) if something had been wrong. At this point though who cares? He IS OUT THERE! And I am happy about it.

Thanks for the detail--much appreciated Did Shelley hand out "Out There" guitar picks during the sound-check too? Yeah I thought the VIP items were less than imaginative--they could have done better there. The backpack is OK, but I don't carry a backpack around. A tour T-shirt would have been better than the travel mug. I was glad we got the tour book too and the lines were way too long to buy stuff at the Albany show and we had little opportunity to even stand on one if we wanted. Maybe some glossy pics of Paul and the band would have been nice too.

Shelley was there, but no guitar picks handed out. 150 people at soundcheck according to what the other rep told me.

I don't believe that's the case...I heard Brian gave an interview after the show and explained that Paul threw in "On My Way..." just for Albany to make his first show back a little special. I'll try to find the interview.

Were any of the pastas gluten free? I'm not a huge pasta fan, it's ok, but there are lots of gf options, such as corn tortillas instead of wheat. The restaurants in Chicago and Indy are starting to have both vegetarian and gf options. Just wondered. The reason I'm asking is to figure how how much I should eat before going to soundcheck in Missoula so my stomach isn't grumbling the entire night
