LIPA set list from The Daily Beatle:
- I’ve Just Seen A Face
- San Francisco Bay Blues
- Every Night
- From Me To You
- Mrs Vanderbilt
- On My Way To Work
- Love Me Do
- Confidante (from the new album)
- I Lost My Little Girl
- Midnight Special
- An unfinished song about Blackpool, Southport and Scunthorpe
- We Can Work It Out
I like this, a little bit different. He did "On My Way To Work" which I don't think he did live more than once before this time. Seems like he likes "Confidante" from the new album, maybe the next single? If he said it was Nancy's favorite from the new album then it is a keeper on the set list - lol. "Mrs Vanderblit" was a big crowd favorite for years and think it has been awhile since he played it. I also am glad he did "From Me To You" and "Every Night", two of my favorites. I still wish in "secret" shows he would throw in a song or two from his solo career that he has never done live. For example, "Little Willow" of "Early Days" would have been wonderful addition at this type of show IMO.
Agree 100% Yankeefan...at least he is on the right track with some of these selections.
From a Beatle perspective, "From Me To You" would be a nice addition on the upcoming true tour. And how about PS I Love You and Martha My Dear...songs he's never done before.
Early Beatles....I know he does "I Love My Little Girl" from a history perspective but it is only half a song (sounds like a song a 14 year old boy would write) and he has done it before. From a history perspective, how about "World Without Love" the first song written by one of the Beatles (solely Paul) given to another artist (Peter and Gordon) that went #1 all around the World including the US and England. Now that would be a history lesson! I would love to hear Paul's version. But that would take some practice and rehearsal with the Band and that is something that Paul doesn't seem to want to do.
From a 70's perspective, Every Night and Mrs. Vanderbilt are good choices. But there are plenty of choices for 70's songs he has never done or rarely done before (Single Pigeon, Love in Song, Getting Closer, With a Little Luck etc. etc.)
From a 80's and beyond perspective ...the only Paul penned song he did was "On My Way to Work". That's a travesty! Again, there are so many from which to choose (songs that he has never done before). It shows ether his lack of memory or more realistic, his drive to do some serious rehearsal time with his band. Old classics like San Francisco Bay Blues and Midnight Special are known by all older musicians that Paul and his Band can do in their sleep.
I understand that Paul has just thrown these "secret gigs" for promotion for the "New Egypt" album but why he hasn't spent a little rehearsal time over the last few months to have an even more "creative and fresh" song list (for even these "secret gigs") just baffles me. Just some of the songs we have suggested in the other Maccaboard threads would really excite the "real and true" fans.

Just to clarify - there isn't a separate chart for England; it was #1 in Britain.

aye you tell em! Even though i'm from English it bugs me when people saying England when it's the UK. I'm British
Oh and i wish this thread didn't turn into another set list moan. We all get the point. But we know these mini gigs are to shove the new songs in with the usual. Judge it more on the tour.
And i saw in some pics Julia Lennon is there
Good to know. I remember reading that in his 1999 one she had to fight to be allowed to see Paul as the staff didn't believe who she was Doesn't she part own it all now? I'm sure i remember that she put money in.

I agree it would not be that hard and long rehearsal to get down 4-5 solo songs never played before live. Like I have said many times before, this is a rock legend and his touring band for over 15 years so I doubt it would take long. They are reheasing songs from Egypt Station so how much more effort would a few more songs take. They could also try it out at these "secret gigs" which are very informal and see how they worked out. I really wish some band member or family would come up to him and say I really love for example "That Was Me" and let's play that song. Sadly, the only way we would get our wish is if we could talk to Nancy (lol) and have her convince him - ha ha. I agree with you on "I Lost My Little Girl", cute little unfinished type song and there are much better selections like you mentioned. As for 50's rock, I wish he would do songs from RDR like "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" for example.

Good to know. I remember reading that in his 1999 one she had to fight to be allowed to see Paul as the staff didn't believe who she was Doesn't she part own it all now? I'm sure i remember that she put money in.
She is Julia Baird now, and yes, she is part owner/manager now, along with, I believe, Jon Keats.
OT, but how is your little boy doing?

hi, oh yes i know she's Baird but i tend to slip of the tongue type of typing and write Lennon!
He's ok thank you for asking (he's having a nap right now!) - we got his brain scan results back recently and they were normal, so so so relieved, so much so that we cried!! He's to have an ultrasound of his neck as the scan did pick up a muscle problem, whether that is linked to his delays we don't know yet. He's 22 months now He still can't walk, and only says Mama Daddy and yes, but has lots of babble and the cheekiest grin. He struggles to stand having very weak legs, but i'm working hard on that and he has physio (they are pretty pushy at me, but it's not my fault and i'm doing my best to get him moving). He finally started crawling last month (only bottom shuffled around up til then), and to get the thread back on track he loves his "Uncle Paul"! Still does his Paul dance when asked what does uncle Paul do! Points to his Paul book i made him when you ask where he is, and, he got to see him yesterday for the first time as we went to Liverpool to watch Paul leave the facebook thing. Managed to get a movie of Paul that then pans round to show our little boy watching, so when he grows up he can at least see that and think that he got to see Paul - they're in the same shot
Sounds a crazy thing to do i know, but meant a lot to me that he's technically seen Paul
