Let It Be / Get Back (the movie)
-
Here's something that came up on youtube, though it was posted years ago. (Let It Be outtakes Camera A Jan 23, 1969)
Even though in black and white, could this 28 minute footage be part of the lost outtakes slated for the film?
It opens with Yoko performing, but then after 2:30, the film is all Beatles, with moments of lots of laughter, and including an improvised version of "Help". They are also seen listening to "Get Back". At one point someone says "I think I'm getting the Hong Kong flu," which was in the news at that time around the world.
Perhaps some of this footage in color did make it into "Let It Be"?

The Daily Mail are such morons! “Philip” Jackson? And identifying the photo of George as Paul?!

I don't undestand why this is so touchy for them. There is no REAL bickering in the film, other than George and Paul talking about a guitar part. They would have you believe they were at each others throats, and cussing each other out. I never got that impression.. At times they look a little tired on screen. No biggie. Plus its been FIFTY years. There have been countlessbooks, articles, films interviews, etc on their history. Why are they so worried?!?
Release the damn film, and add some bonus clips. That would be a huge seller.
I hear you Maccaroni1974, I really wish that LET IT BE would be released. However, I think that the film is very personal for the Fab Four and they have delayed it for obvious reasons. For The Beatles themselves, seeing the film, it shows The Beatles themselves breaking apart. The arguments in the film may not be bad to us but it may be bad to them. I hope that Capitol/EMI does release LET IT BE someday, Beatles fans would love it no matter what. Take care.
I think that's a misconception by all of us. They broke up. We say it showed they were in the process of doing that very thing in "Let It Be." (If that were such an absolute, they would not have come back together after that and created the magnificent "Abbey Road.") The footage that made that film is a very small part of what they were doing at the time making Paul seem the heavy when talking to/telling George what to play. That was blown out of proportion just because it was in the film. According to Peter Jackson, the 55 hours of footage he has looked at shows just the opposite. There were "moments," but the group creating music was the driving factor. I'm sure they argued at every session...right from the beginning. When people are creating, they have different ideas. Sometimes they clash. We've all done it in some capacity when we think our ideas are better than someone else's. I've done it at the office when writing a report...along with others providing input. We blame Yoko too....and there she is sitting there constantly...which reinforces our beliefs. That certainly had to be a distraction for Paul, George and Ringo. All of that may have contributed...but it was far more complicated than that. I look forward to what I'm sure will be a great film by Jackson. We can be like flys on the wall. It will NOT be rewriting history, as has been suggested,....just our interpretation of it.

Wooh hoo, I can hardly wait.
Many who love the Beatles, but don't really understand, think of this as the last days of those four wonderful lads.
Of course, this was just the prelude to them putting out the greatest album ever told.
Abbey Road, my favorite.

I say release a 90 minute rooftop concert, what do all of you think?

Given that it barely lasted 40 minutes, not a lot.

Someone said 55 hours of footage would be a chore... i thought no way... i would love to do that. . To have those 55 hours. I would find it a challenge to cut it and edit it to only a few hours...
And then i saw the Yoko footage of her aahhhhhing ... and sorry Yoko and Yoko fans ... that would be hard to sit through. (I did like some stuff she did on Double Fantasy, but that is much later)... i was not and cannot pretend to like it ... (sorry John), i have to be honest....
i like the rehearsal and jamming ... working on something just written that reaches to the rooftop scene.
i hope this guy does a good job and doesn't hack it or drop the ball or try to add too much beyond the original film ... or throw some Hollywood star of the day saying what they think it means...
hopefully The Beatles and their representitives have a say in what is done with all of it.

They played for 42 mins., and half of that ended up in the original film. There were no other songs though. Just different takes of the ones they were recording at the time for the album (which was to be called Get Back, but ended up as Let It Be). I would still love to see the entire 42 mins.

Ah, don't worry, we will never see a bit of it if Paul and Ringo, along with Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, do not all four give their approval.

I would say release what we have or if we have to release any rehearsal footage, release footage when they're not arguing. Didn't someone find over 500 reels of the "Lost Tapes" in 2003?

Hi beatlesfanrandy! How are you? I would LOVE to see the entire 42 minutes. Didn't someone find the 500 reels of "Lost Tapes" in 2003? These are the complete tapes from the GET BACK sessions. Why hasn't none of these tapes been released?

I'm sure the Peter Jackson film (and when on DVD, any extra footage) will give us the best of what is available. The bootleg DVD set 'The Get Back Chronicles' shows that there is a lot of interesting and entertaining footage available, especially from the Apple Studio sessions. The Beatles certainly looked happier in their own studio than they ever did at the Twickenham film studios.

Since there's so much footage.. (how many hours did Paul say they have, 56? someone correct me if I'm wrong).. why don't Paul & Ringo just do another Anthology type of tv series, and use the footage in various episodes? It would be like watching The Beatles in a reality show, lol, only from 1969. The very last episode could be the rooftop concert. I'm sure it would do great in the ratings. It's only a question of how much time it would take to edit it all into episodes... that would probably take a long time, and be all-consuming and take a huge production team to put it all together.
I just read article in NY Post the other day regarding the 50th anniversary of the rooftop concert. The article said the concert on the roof was actually 43 min but it was cut down to 21 minutes for the film.
The 43 minutes includes about about 4 runthroughs of "Get Back." That's probably one reason it was cut back in the first place. Not sure we need that song 4 times. Not sure why other songs from the album were not performed....such as George's "I Me Mine" and "For You Blue." Maybe, since he didn't want to do the concert thing in the first place, he declined to perform his songs.

Okay here is my million dollar idea given away for free * but if you feel it in your heart to share some with me ... i will gladly accept....
Make a VR movie (Virtual Reality version) ...
How cool would that be to walk around the studio and on the Roof with The Beatles....
Okay just a dream idea for the fun of it ...
Interesting the amount of extra film footage, photos and songs that i have seen and heard recently that have out done all of this type of stuff that i had seen in years and years and years ... seeming to come out after many years ...
I enjoy rarities and many "unseen *(by me) songs, and things of every day life ... of The Beatles ...
Hoping for good results of course.

Hasn't anyone heard the metal version of "Get Back?" Believe it or not, a metal version of "Get Back" exists! I KNOW, I'VE HEARD IT, IT KICKS A*S!

That is exactly right about George. He didn't push because he was waiting to record his own album. One thing that should be remembered about the rooftop gig. It was not intended to be a concert. It was a recording session for the new album Get Back. The concert idea (on an ocean liner, an island, an empty amphitheater(which Pink Floyd actually did), at the Pyramids were all locations kicked around) was scrapped mainly because George was against it. He went on the roof reluctantly, but he did it with the other three to record the new songs. They ran wires from the roof to the mixer in the basement, pointed the speakers at the streets below, and let it rip during lunchtime in London!

I've heard this version before, with John front and central. This early version of the song just shows how brilliant those boys were in 'forming' a song. Knocking it out, and eventually coming up with something so superior. The final product so much better. The guitar licks and solo so much better in the release. And Paul so much better in singing it (no offence, John, I love ya).
It's obviously a Paul song (cos, as we know, back in those days whoever sung it pretty much wrote it).... was this just a version of John mucking around (like Paul with 'I'm So Tired'), when he already knew Paul was going to be singing it? I presume so. I can't imagine John ever singing this song. Paul rocks this song. A vocal treat.
I ask....cos I wonder whether they both sang the song, and then decided who sung it best?.... I think not. Those days long gone... but who knows what process they went through? Hence, the majesty of these 'unearthed' recordings.
I may also have read that John wanted to sing Oh! Darling. But Paul wasn't letting go of that brilliant dynamo. What a song!
Get Back.... one of my faves.

Hi toris! How are you? This is a blistering version of "Get Back" isn't it? You can tell they were playing around but listen to what came out of those amps! This would have been a GREAT version had they continued in that direction.
