New Macca song called "Get Enough" coming out at midnight
-
I love this track, it’s different than anything I’ve heard from Paul. The auto tune is clearly meant to mimic other songs by younger artists. It makes it sound very contemporary to me. I’m in the LOVE group rating Get Enough. Can anyone make out what he’s saying during the middle 8?

What makes it a bit frustrating, is that with a rested 76-year old voice he can still sound quite nice. "Happy With You" is beautiful.
I'm not convinced that the resting of his voice would make much difference. I'm sure he was told years ago that his vocal cords are damaged beyond repair and that he may as well just carry on doing what he loves doing. Clearly from his studio recordings and live shows he has some better days than others but overall his spoken voice and singing voice are totally shot.
I hate to agree, but I do. “Resting” his voice doesn’t make a bit of difference. I doubt surgery would help either. It’s odd that he can still sound good on certain rockers like Helter Skelter, but cringeworthy on a ballad. I think that’s why he stopped doing The Long And Winding Road.
Also why he dropped Yesterday. Some songs Abe is able to back him up in his singing but not when it's a solo from Paul. But oddly enough he is still doing Blackbird & Here Today.

Well, I hope he has dropped "Maybe I'm Amazed" too. That has been one he hasn't been able to sing for years.

Everybody keeps mentioning auto tune . Like it or loathe it , I think it’s clearly used for an effect - not to keep Paul in tune ...
ill need to listen again , only heard it once
-
This song is unique in its own way. I listened to it quite a few times And I love it. And I have to admit also Paul was so cute in his video for the song , makes me want to hug him

While I don't dislike the song and, in fact, love the gorgeous melodic interlude/break, I believe the auto tune is clearly meant to cover up some very rough singing during much of the song. I wish it were just used to be a bit more current, but.....

i don't agree that the autotune has been used to cover anything up. had that been the case it could have been far more subtly done. For me it's as clear as day that it's meant to be for an effect.
I think it was Nancy who mentioned his rock / ballad voice differences . In response to that , I'd say that when paul is doing Helter Skelter , he can still absolutley nail it time after time because it's a full on growl and his voice still has the power to go high in this style . With ballads there is more subtlety required , and his voice is not as reliable every time to hit higher notes with a softer more delicate voice . This happened in Glasgow during Maybe I'm Amazed , He had a bit of a wobble on the more delicate bits, but when he went for it full on he sounded great.
I don't believe he has completley dropped Yesterday or Long and winding road. Probably just rotation. I'd say maybe I'm amazed is far more demanding - and it's still there. He didn't do I Saw Her Standing there in Glasgow, but he did it in Liverpool.
One more thing about Paul / Abe's voice combo. Abe was clearly singing backing vocals in Glasgow of course, but it was Paul's voice you could hear clearly above anybody else in the band - it was clear as day. He had no problems doing Blackbird, and his vocal on Band on the run (a murderous song to sing ! ) was really magnificent that night.

Great information. Thanks. I'm concerned that the critics, none of whom I've read singled out his faltering vocals, will start to comment about it. It can't/won't go unmentioned forever. Paul may control what he is asked about in interviews and make it known that "his voice" is not to be brought up, but he cant control what is written about in various publications. Rolling Stone has been remarkably generous. We, his stauch fans, have been more critical of him than major publications.

Off topic, but would you happen to know the situation with Bill King and Beatlefan? The publication seems to have come to a halt...as well as Beatlefan/EXTRA with its up to the minute coverage of new product. There's been nothing for months. The site hasn't been updated for a very long time either. Just wondering and concerned.

It hasn’t come to a halt! I received my Nov.-Dec. issue #235 (Vol. 40, No. 1) last month. I email Bill a lot. He is asking for your memories of Feb. 1964 to be sent to beatlefanmagazine@gmail.com by Jan. 30th for inclusion in the next issue.

Hmmm. I am paid up but haven't received anything for quite some time. I guess I'll have to email him. The site hasn't been updated in what seems like forever. The "current" what's happening there is Ringo's last album which isn't current or recent. The issue shown as most recent has Paul gazing out at the audience on the cover. That was the last one I received. No EXTRA on Paul's "Egypt Station," which he always covers...new product....even before the official release date. I have no idea what songs he may or may not like and why. Anyway, thanks......

For those who say Paul's voice is shot and no amount of rest will make it better; that he has some good days/some not. I'm not so sure. Beatlefan reported that after he took a 7-week break in touring, when he resumed with a well rested voice he sounded great. Nary a problem, even on "Maybe I'm Amazed." Everything was clear. So......I remain of the opinion that with a rested voice his vocals on all the songs on his "Egypt Station" could have sounded excellent. There would have been no struggle to get through "Confidante." That album will be around forever. I would have imagained that Paul would have wanted to sound his best. But....he settled for much less. He's rightfully proud of the songs he wrote, but not for how they sound. He couldn't be.

Just bought the download , and have been listening to it quite a bit . Must say, I really like song , autotune/vocoder voice effect and all . I wonder why he left it off the album, and i I wonder to that effect why hes released it now ?

Thank Goodness, he left it off the album. One of his poorer songs. And there's not many of them. I love you Paul, always will, but this song is ordinary at best. The marketing folks not really doing their job with that one.

Each to their own

Here in the UK, Paul hasn't had a top ten single (in his own name) for 31 years. 'Get Enough' is a good indication as to why.
-
Apropos of nothing, and totally for what it's worth, every time i hear Get Enough, I like ity more. The auto tune was totally for effect, and it works. A nice atmospheric slice of Paul weirdness.
-
I like "Get Enough"
It sounds very emotional and caring.
-
I think "Get Enough" was written for Linda.

A very emotionally touching song... the auto tune effects were sooo cool, very atmospheric. It had that echo across time vibe. Really loved the song.
It's like one of Paul's videos that swirl out of a mist, back to a happy point in time.
