Thanks Yankeefan. All of those reviews were pretty positive. McCartney 3 is certainly getting a lot of buzz.
Yep, the big question is will it help sales. Will probably enter the charts with a bang but the key will be how long will it stay there. Hard to promote album without being able to go out on tour or do TV shows. McCartney at this stage in his career will not sell huge amounts but I hope it does fairly well. I am glad for the critical success, once again IMO it validates his solo career songwriting.
As I've pointed out on Steve Hoffman's forum but maybe not here, albums by geezer acts never have a long chart run. If the advance publicity is good, established fans go out and buy the album, producing a healthy first week or two. But two things sustain album sales over the long run: Social media buzz, which is mainly a youth thing and not something that fans of McCartney, Dylan, Springsteen, etc., generate much of, and radio play -- and the only radio formats that play the old guys have limited reach. This is just how it is. However well McCartney III does in December, it will have dropped off the charts, at least in the U.S., by March.
Well IMO, the advance publicity has been very good and in addition it is being released just in time for last minute Christmas present -lol. You are right and it will disappear quickly from the charts but I was hoping maybe he would get lucky and it would last a bit longer. I did not know if radio really mattered anymore for sales. Radio formats that play the old guys is his demographic , not expecting Taylor Swift fans to buy "McCartney III" (maybe Taylor will -ha ha).
At this point in his career, I am happy about good critical reviews and hope it places in top 5 in the charts the first week. The timing of this album being released is bad for Grammy nominations, album will be forgotten by the time they nominate things in late 2021.

It's sorta like "what goes around comes around." I'm sure that when The Beatles came along, numerous older acts were knocked off the raido and exiled, so to speak. Paul doesn't need to be all over the radio....which works, because he won't be!!!

This was posted on Paul's twitter account today--He will be interviewed by Chris Rock on youtube on Thurs Dec 17th at 11:45 PM ET and afterwards we'll see the premiere of his new music video.

Lyrics for The Kiss Of Venus
The kiss of Venus has got me on the go
She's scored a bullseye in the early morning glow
Early morning glowPacked with illusions, our world is turned around
This golden circle has a most harmonic sound
Harmonic soundAnd in the sunshine where we stand alone
We came together with our secrets blown
Our secrets blownNow moving slowly, we circle through the square
Two passing planets in the sweet, sweet summer air
Sweet summer airAnd in the sunshine where we stand alone
We came together with our secrets blown
Our secrets blownReflected mountains in the lake
Is this too much to take?
Asleep or wide awake?
And if the world begins to shake
Would something have to break?
We have to stay awakePacked with illusions, our world is turned around
This golden circle has a most harmonic sound
Harmonic soundAnd in the sunshine where we stand alone
We came together with our secrets blown
Our secrets blownThe kiss of Venus has got me on the go
She's scored a bullseye in the early morning glow
Early morning glowThe kiss of Venus has got me on the go

Just listening to it for the second time just now!
So far it's sounding really great. His voice sounds good to me & the album's so full of energy. Definitely doesn't sound like an album by someone who's planning on retiring anytime soon so can't wait to see what he does next once we're finally able to go back out there I may not have formed my full opinion quite yet but I can say that this definitely makes up for the disappointment of the cancellation of the 2020 tour 🥰 -
It drops tonight at 11:45 p.m. ! I've loved every snippet of each song I've heard so far ! I heard a guy perform the entire "Lavatory Lil" on YouTube and it's a rousing rambunctious rocker, I laughed at the phrase "roll in the hay," LOL (Paul !!).
That multi-colored dice or die, well there ya go; wish it were on the cd proper, duckie. It really pops.
Many thanks for the "Kiss of Venus" lyrics, oobu--on first reading, I just skimmed, but they're lovely, quite evocative. Seemed poetic. I love them and will peruse at length and in depth.
Somebody from Oz has the entire album "Macca 3" at the Take It Away facebook group, it's on Spotify. Already got it there in Australia somehow. Gonna jump on that thang ! Hot dawg

Looking forward to picking up the album when I get done with work tomorrow!Unfortunately Fallon is not a great interviewer and he rambles a bit without asking question. On the positive side, McCartney looked good and even made fun of Fallon once which I thought was funny. Also, he did not mention the Beatles once - hooray !!! Would have loved it if he could have done a song from the album but oh well.

DirecTV still not getting NBC, so if anyone can provide a you tube link to Paul on Fallon, I'd appreciate it! (NBC app and nbc.com won't work either. Might have to wait until it is unlocked in Peacock app)

The music is digital so you don't actually get the cover, just a download of the photo I guess!

Yes, you get a download of the photo. I am not on Facebook but I get the promo text messages from "Paul" and they texted me a link to purchase that deluxe download today. It has the four bonus tracks and I was having a weak moment so I ordered it. The link showed up while I was watching Fallon. Listened once thru and so far there is a lot to like. Tomorrow it will get multiple plays. As for Fallon, he is a big fanboy so I wasn't expecting much, was just happy to see Paul again.
-
I was just watching the Find My Way video and at 3:07 you can see what looks like the original Hofner bass that I thought was stolen or lost during the Get Back sessions. Did he get it back at some point?
-
I'm really enjoying this album! Will give it another listen tomorrow morning while working.
-
Listened to the album in full and thoroughly enjoyed it, fantastic release from McCartney. Lots of brilliant songs but I think the closing track Winter Bird/When Winter Comes really stands out for me. I was blown away by how much his voice sounded like 70s McCartney here, and I found the song made me emotional as it really felt like a throwback to his life at the start of the McCartney album thrilogy all those years ago living on the farm after the Beatles, and so it feels like an apt full circle closing of the thrilogy.
Thanks for this early Christmas present in a year we needed a new album the most!

FYI - I got rid of DirectTV a few months ago and switched to youtubeTV which so far I realy like and it is a bunch cheaper.
