Excellent reviews of Paul's concert in Houston in the Houston papers. Here are two I found: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/2012/11/last_night_paul_mccartney_at_m.php The writer has an, um, interesting way with words at times but it's basically a rave review and says Paul was in good voice again. And here's another one: http://houston.culturemap.com/newsdetail/11-15-12-at-70-paul-mccartney-wows-houston-with-a-show-stopper-concert-covering-nearly-50-years-of-music/ Wish I'd been there.

Nice to hear he was in good voice. The thing that hit me from the first review was that the audience was into the Wings songs and loud cheers for "Maybe I'M Amazed.

The people moaning about the people moaning about the stale setlist is as predictable as everything else. As far as I'm concerned they're missing the point. If Paul ever comes around my neighbourhood again and I can get my hands on ticket I'd be disappointed if he didn't play: Let it be Hey Jude Yesterday Live and let die Whatever else he decides to play would just be an added bonus. Those people going to a Paul concert for the first time and those people referred to from the two recent concerts will smile on their faces, would have been glad and happy and content and have big smiles on their faces no matter what Beatles songs he played that night. By playing virtually the same songs in the the same order time and time again you get lots of happy oh-that-Paul-guy-from-Beatles-is-playing-it'd-be-fun-to-go-see-him-live-concertgoers (including that chap referred to in another thread calling Paul "John's lucky partner"). They know Beatles songs and maybe one or two of the 70's hits. They go to the toilet or talk during songs they don't know. Those people come to the concert to hear Beatles songs. And I'm 95% sure they don't care one bit what Beatles songs they get to hear. So, for the fans that go to multiple concerts and go every time he comes near - mix up the setlist. Otherwise there's a very big chances they stop coming. So stop moaning about people moaning about the stale setlist. Or make a thread for the setlist moaners and a different thread for the other moaners - and don't read/write in one another's threads.

Wow-to those of you sarcastically making comments about the set list (yet again) were you at the concert, or are you just trying to be uber cool? The comments are as boring and tired as the setlist that you all constantly moan about...... At the concert in St. Louis-I saw the faces of people, young and old that have never seen Paul in concert. The smiles and excitement I saw on these faces told me everything I had to know about the setlist-Paul's music gives his fans pure joy that continues through the whole concert. Yes-I know what you're going to say-if I don't like it, don't read it, BUT I think this thread didn't say it was going to be yet another *****fest about songs. It is your right to voice your opinion, but does it have to be on so many threads? Here's an idea-if you don't like the setlist-don't go to his concerts (after all, you KNOW what he will sing). Off my soapbox now.
Actually quite a few of us have done that and don't go to every tour any more. Like myself an others have said, he even tells the same stories betweeen songs and most of us probably could tell you word for word what he is going to say - lol. What you don't seem to understand is that there are many of us who are not just "Beatle Paul" fans, we are Paul McCartney fans and that would love to hear more songs from his entire career. Myself and many others are also the ones buying his solo records and records with "The Fireman". We would love it if McCartney pandered to us paying money for these records by playing more of it live. Finally, it has been noted in cities like NY where McCartney has performed fairly often that his setlist stays basically the same and he has been"slammed" a bit by the critics. for it. The only reason it is not mentioned more is because he is going to cities where he has not performed in awhile.
Not true. Paul's played in Toronto for every major tour he's put on starting with WIngs in 76 through to On The Run tour in 2010. Here's a very positive review from 2010. http://www.torontosun.com/entertainment/music/2010/08/09/14964286.html Paul only gets slammed in the UK. He's loved by the critics everywhere else

let me add...The few people that are still diehard setlist watchers that were here last night of course were not at the concert...BUT we have been at many a setlist watch. And boy have the numbers of 'watchers' dropped off. hmmm wonder why? *shrugs* People that don't know how different it is sitting here waiting for the next song as opposed to standing there singing your ass off...need a wake up call. OF COURSE IT'S DIFFERENT. When I am in that audience I don't even think of the setlist (that much)...but it's totally diff when you are not at the show. So why do people here have to be critized? I said nothing about you. thanks. : and as nobodytoldme says:
That's only because we are watching our computer screens, and aren't there in person! I remember coming back from Bologna, first time I saw him in a year and a half, heard 15 'new' setlist additions and 3 stunning songs for the first time ever, and reading all those negatives posts over here . You can't experience a show like this on paper.

The concerts don't really get "slammed" over there/here. You just can't. But when he came back after just 2 years in The Netherlands and had the same basic set, that sure was addressed in the (4- or 5-star) reviews last March. Even more so when you know he played London - after neglecting England for years and years - the last 3 years in a row with the same basic setlist.

very true, its great that Paul's selling out venues and that his voice seems to be in good shape but u would think that would spur him on to balance the show out. seems like Hope of Deliverance has been put to bed

These writers need to brush off their thesaurus. "Nuisance" instead of "nuance"? And a St. Louis reviewer referred to a song as "anathematic." Audi, are you with me?

My son just came in and told me that his best friend (who now lives in Houston) was at the concert last night and loved it! (he's 25) I'm so jealous! He texted my son "Tell your Mom I saw her 'dreamboat' last night!"

Amazing show, so strong musically. Rusty and Brian really flexed their muscles. Did anyone else see Venus and Mars in the sky when it got dark? How great was that? Paul was extra wiggly wooo! That bunny in his pocket! setlist: if you dislike it you can skip the show, I will go and take your place. We won't miss you Last night in the crowd, I watched a beautiful family whose father kept telling his children when "hey Jude" and "let it be" etc came on : "You need to pay attention to this one, this is an important song." I love the memories like that, that I get every time I go to a Paul show. Met an Astronaut in the audience and some other amazing people. Thank you Paul for another incredible unforgettable evening. Just the best for me yet!!

Hi Jena, I remembered on you when knew that Paul would be there in Houston, I'm glad that you saw him...I just hope he will return to South America soon. And the thing you saw in those family is the same I've seen in the concerts I was, is really wonderful saw young and old people enjoy together Paul's music. Nothing feel so good like share love and peace. 2:

Yeah! And did you notice the same people who complained about the setlist in the St. Louis thread came over to complain about Houston too!

He messed up the lyrics of Maybe I'm Amazed! and smiled when he realized it. "Baby im amazed at the way you help me sing my song, maybe im afraid of the way I leave you, Baby im amazed at the way you help me sing my song, your right me when i'm wrong..."
