Great idea... wish I wasn't governed by four songs from each of the three albums....I'd really only have 2-3 from the third.

      McCartney:

Maybe I'm Amazed (of course!... a giant of a song... a good opener to the Beatles double-album that never happened)

      Junk

      Every Night

      Teddy Boy

      McCartney 2:

      Coming Up

      Waterfalls

      Summers Day Song

      One of These Days

      McCartney 3:

      Seize the Day

      When Winter Comes

      Slidin' (the 'imagined" version)

sorry, can't really give a fourth.... Kiss of Venus good...

but, I'm going to have to break things.... sorry, Yankee Fan.... I'm jettisoning Kiss of Venus and insisting on... Temporary Secretary....

Either way, this would be a great album!

If somebody did "Temporary Secretary" without the "electropop" than maybe I might like it. Let's be radical and have somebody do acoustic version of it - lmao !!

Coming Up is still one of my fave McCartney tracks.

Waterfalls, Summer's Day Song and One of These Days much better than most of what is on McCartney 3

I like Dark Room... and,,,, yes, even Bogey Music.... better than those "Deep" songs of the third album... by a mile.... or a kilometre, as we'd say...

And.... I do... (wait for it).... I never liked it at first.... but I love..... Temporary Secretary.

          Toris,

As I have stated before, music is very subjective.  You have stated your views on McCartney III loud and clear.  I'm also a big fan of Paul McCartney and I have a different view on McCartney III and I'll give you my reasons.

I like Mc3 more  than McCartney 2because it is a much more conventional in terms of its overall sound. I also like Mc3 better than McCartney 1 because the songs as a whole are more complete.

Let's start out with the first Paul DIY album in 1970.

McCartney 1 - had 3 great songs imo...Maybe I'm Amazed (one of Paul's all time classics) Every NIght (another great song) and Junk (terrific).  Like with many Macca albums I like a few others on McCartney 1 like Teddy Boy and Oo YOU but the remainder of the album had a bunch of half-baked ideas and songs imo like The Lovely Linda, That Would be Something (a jam that's pretty good), Valentine Day, Hot As Sun, Man We Was Lonely, and Momma Miss Amreica.  And I never liked the final track Kreen-Akrore.

Final Grade  (my opinion only) 7+ (The 3 great great songs made the album)

Mcartney 2 - More Electro and Synthe oriented, this album imo had 3 to 4 good to great songs...Coming Up, Waterfalls,Summer's Day Song and the final track One of These Days.  I also think On the Way and  Nobody Knows are good songs as well.  Remaining tracks include 2 instrumentals (Front Parlaur and Frozen Jap) which imo are a nice listen.  The other 3 I've never liked includiing Temporary Secretary, Bogey Music and Darkroom.  As much as I have tried to like them, they never grew with me like many of Paul songs.

Final Grade (my opinion only) 7 (the 6 good to great songs made the album)

McCartney 3 - The most conventual of Paul's 3 DIY albums - I like this one the best of the 3.  In my opinion, not a bad song or clunker on the whole album.  Of the 2 jam songs I think "Deep Down" could have sounded better imo.  It meanders too much and it needed "live" horns... but I think it still has a good soul/R&B sound and vibe. This one could have been better imo but it's still a good song.  The rest are all good to great imo.  While none of McCartney 3 tracks are probaby as great as  Maybe I'm Amazed, the best tracks are still very good to great like Find My Way, Sliding, The Kiss of Venus, Seize the Day and the closer "When Winter Comes.  I also really like Pretty Boys and Women and Wives.  After many listens I grown to like Lavortory Lil.  Yes the lyrics are slight but I love Paul's rocking guitar solo's.  And I also really like the other jam song "Deep Deep Feeling" because of the constant changes in the song.  It has great instumentation throughout (great piano chords, electric guitar, drums plus the great  maracas and shakers and of course his great bass.  All in all, I've grown to really like "Deep Deep Feeling" even though it is 8 plus minutes.  The opening and closing tracks also tie the whole album together melodically and lyrically.  This last part makes McCartney 3 a great album feel and not just a collection of songs.

Grade (My opinion) 9 (for overall consistency and "album feel)

I know I'm not going to change your mind but these are my opinions on the 3 McCartney DIY Albums.  I think they are all good to great and go a long way of making McCartney one of the all time greats.  I my opinion, his Post Beatles' Career was just as good as his Beatle's career.

McCartney 1 - I agree with you 100% on this album, especially giving high mark to "Every Night".

McCartney 2 -  I would give it a 5 at best and I will be one of those people who did not like "Coming Up"

McCartney 3 - I basically agree with you on almost everything about this album, only difference is you like "Pretty Boys" a bunch better than me.

My wife just got a text from her Son who lives in Sacramento CA.  He has never been much of a Beatles or Paul fan but my wife told him that I was a big Paul fan.  Anyway, he texted her saying that he  just heard a song on a Pandora Playlist called  "Deep Down" done by Blood Orange and Paul Mccartney.  He likes Blood Orange and he liked the song.  I think that was Paul/Capitol's purpose for doing McCartney III Imagined in the first place.  They are trying to reach the younger music demographic that normally are not Beatle or Paul fans in the first place.

As I have said, I think there are just 2 songs on the McCartney III Imagined CD that are slighly better than Paul's originals.  One is "Deep Down" and the other is Women and Wives by St. Vincent.  I'm normally not a big fan of 80's style synthes but the synthes on the final portion of "Deep Down" are done very tastefully.  That along with the nice piano (done in the style of Paul's 1985 song) makes it a little better and less boring than Paul's song.  It's a little less than 4 minutes so its got a nice groove and just the right length.

I know I'm not going to change your mind but these are my opinions on the 3 McCartney DIY Albums.  I think they are all good to great and go a long way of making McCartney one of the all time greats.  I my opinion, his Post Beatles' Career was just as good as his Beatle's career.

I absolutely love how McCartney 3 has sort of retroactively made the McCartney albums feel like a "series" that spans Paul's solo career. I know they weren't actually planned that way in advance, but I think it's great how it worked out. And they do go well with each other I think.

McCartney 1, I would rank somewhere around the middle of Paul's solo albums. Positives: I really like 11 of the 13 tracks (a pretty high percentage) and love the feel of the album. Negatives: It's quite rare for me to really dislike any song by Paul, but this album has two of them: Teddy Boy and Kreen Akrore. Also, the album has kind of a smaller scale, which contributes to some of it's charm and homemade feel, but I also can't really rate it above other, more full albums.

McCartney 2, I rank towards the bottom of Paul's solo albums, though I do like it, and it has grown on me some over time. Positives: It's unique and different compared to Paul's other albums, and it has some absolutely great tracks, like Waterfalls, Summer's Day Song, and One of These Day's. Negatives: Like McCartney 1, it has two songs I really dislike (Front Parlour, and Frozen Jap), and the electronic feel is fine as a change of pace, but isn't my preferred style overall.

McCartney 3, I'd rank slightly above McCartney 1 and in the top half of Paul's solo albums. Positives: I like 10 of the 11 tracks, and the one I don't much like (Deep Deep Feeling) still isn't too bad. Plus IMO it has two classics, The Kiss of Venus, and When Winter Comes. Negatives: Like McCartney 1, it's a little samlles scale compared to some of Paul's other "bigger" albums, and also I feel like it's missing a catchy, uptempo, rock oriented, single type of song.

Maybe "Find My Way" does not "rock" enough (more pop oriented) but IMO it is pretty darn catchy and upbeat but what do I know -lol

Yeah, I guess Find My Way and Seize the Day are probably the closest and sort of fill that role.

First impression....Dominic seems like a "real" person...down to earth.  LIked the story with his girfriend's love of Paul McCartney.  Good "live" performance and should  help the album sales nicely.  Should be good for Paul also.

You're welcome. This live performance rocked it up a little bit more. Very cool to see it transforming into different versions of Paul's original.

First impression....Dominic seems like a "real" person...down to earth.  LIked the story with his girfriend's love of Paul McCartney.  Good "live" performance and should  help the album sales nicely.  Should be good for Paul also.

Sorry BJ, this will help only one person and it is Dominic Fike and not Paul McCartney.  If a living legend and one of the greatest songwriters of all time need these people to sell his new music, I think he should just give up -lol.

                                        Hey Yankeefan

Was out all day having my cataract surgery on my "right" eye.  Like my left eye, I have a temporary patch so it's a little hard to see and type.  The procedure went fine and I'm remembering what you said,  Once i get my new glasses with new  prescription lenses, I should have better overall vision.

We will have to agree to disagree on the purpose of McCartney III Imagined.  Even though Paul and the Beatles have a huge audience,  they are a group and despite being the most successful music group of all time, this is music and they are still  lacking a big segment of the overall markeplace...namely the younger demographic who are a big segment of the record buying public.  And the fact that Paul was part of the biggest music group of all time, he has an added disadvantage in that "splinters" often occur within the group.  There are many John and George fans who don't especially like Paul or buy his music.  Again, I understand your position and I see how this project can negatively look,   It can make Paul look greedy  It was Paul's manager's idea but  he had to approve it, but I think I understand his reason why he and MPL OK'd it.  Paul is like Bruce, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and many other aging rockers.   Once they release a new album, they initially sell well but the sales quickly disappear.  Like a couple of veteran Beatle writers on a podcast I recently heard,  they "applaud" Paul for seeking to expand his audience.  They also liked the group of artists that Paul enlisted.  They are younger, cutting edge musicians rather than Paul's contemporaries.

It remains to be seen if McCartney III Imagined will be successful.  From what I understand,  "Imagined" is only being sold "on-line" currently but the CD's themselves will go on sale in July.  If  some more of these musicians  get TV "live" appearances like Dominic File just did, this could be a more successful endeaver than first believed.   The reviews from music critics have been largely positive, so it could  do quite well.  By and large,  I've  changed my initial opinion on this project.  Even though Paul is so universally known and rich,  when it comes to "music" there is nothing wrong imo with trying to expand your audience.  For that reason, I don't mind this latest pursuit. As a big fan,  anything that  expands Paul's audience is, on the whole, good in my mind.

                                        ,

You're welcome. This live performance rocked it up a little bit more. Very cool to see it transforming into different versions of Paul's original.

I saved it on my DVR so I can show my son. He is a huge Blink-182 fan and that story Dominic told will crack him up!

I must admit it didn't tickle my fancy on first listening.... decades ago.

But I really now appreciate it.

Completely agree.  Word for word.  My opinions on the songs exactly!
