But of course you all realize?and I know it's really lame and it sucks?that these high prices came about as a way to combat scalping. Artists and promoters, etc. saw what tickets were going for on the black market and said, "Hey, if people are willing to pay scalpers that much, why shouldn't WE get in on that action?" I think the Eagles in the '90s were the first ones to start that escalating cycle. The established artist that will buck that trend these days is all too rare.
You are correct. That is the reasoning. But it is pretty cynical. Instead of saying, "We sell tickets for $50 and scalpers sell them for $200. Let's use technology and ingenuity to get the tickets straight to the fans and keep them out of the hands of scalpers." they say, "Scalpers are charging fans $200 for $50 tickets. Let's charge fans $250 a ticket and pocket the money ourselves." NOT cool. I know the argument is "If fans are willing to pay high prices to scalper, why not pay high prices to the artist?" Here is why: Most fans don't buy tickets from scalpers. But now, in a sense, EVERYONE has to buy their ticket from a "scalper" ie the artist. We have no choice. Except not to go. Which is the option I take.
I remember back in 1989, I took the lead in organizing some co-workers to see David Byrne in concert. I bought all the tickets (good seats) and everyone was shocked that they cost the extravagant price of $35! We sure didn't know what we were in for later on, did we! I will not pay the prices they're asking for soundchecks. The concert itself is already insanely priced. I do wonder, though, what's going to happen when the current crop of sixties and seventies stars (I'm talking decades and age groups!) stops touring. I don't think there are nearly as many huge icons of music in newer generations who can "scalp" their fans quite like is happening now. But anyway, I am paying the concert prices at the moment, just to see some of the major ones at least one time. For me, Paul is worth it every time, for the energetic show he puts on, and for the fact that he only comes to my city about every five years (and I'm lucky to live in a place where he actually does play sometimes). Eventually, there will be no Paul set list to critique, so I'm enjoying what he gives us while I can!

That's cool. And understandable. If someone has not seen Paul, they should and should pay. He is a legend.

Well, Paul made it official - he's getting back "Out There" in Seoul on May 2nd. -Rubber Soul13
Finally! I've been very skeptical about him re-scheduling this quick it after the cancellation.
Chong is right! We were worried about this. Curious how ticket sales will be

MACCATTACK:
Agreed! The amount of overweight unattractive people at these soundchecks is appalling. It is beneath us to be in their presence
If I ever get to go to a soundcheck, I promise I will lose some weight first, Sir. Anyway I think we'd all have to agree the soundcheck package is a rip off.
mike carrera:
And I think the rate is pretty much the same for North America amigo, Mexico included. Listo para mayo? saludos
Que sucede en Mayo? Ringo performs on March 1 for free in here

I'm quite positive that ticket sales will be very good. Last year's sales for Paul's show was one of the hottest in the nation in years, selling out the day they went on public sale for the 45,000~50,000 capacity venue. This new date is Saturday instead of Wednesday of last year's so things might get even hotter this year.

Depends what we are talking about too, like the Stones, he/MPL must be producing the shows too so there is a lot of money coming out of that set fee, musicians, stage design, equipment, permanent personnel, etc... It's not like he gets $2/$3 million wired to his bank account shows up and goes home and the rest is SEP. That's what Chuck Berry used to do but he got paid in cash (before the beginning of the show) and not for the same type of fee
All I was saying, is that no one twisting Paul's arm to charge quadruple digits to die-hard fans and triple digits to people that just want to see Paul McCartney. That being said, no one twisted my arm and made me buy tickets to see him seven times. But it hurts as a fan...based off the facts and numbers I've seen, I do not believe he has to charge $250 (on average) for a top price level standard ticket to his concerts. But take the soundcheck example...that seat is theoretically worth approx. $250...and I'd say you get about $150 worth of merchandise, right? Who in their right mind, would value the soundcheck "experience" (which is all that is left after the previous two points) at $1100? That's Paul saying, I deserve $1100 for letting you sit at the back of the arena during my soundcheck. That soundcheck is happening whether you are there or not...it is not costing him ANYTHING to have you in there like it does during your concert experience.
I don't think a soundcheck seat is $250. You are getting seats that cost over $1,000 that included a soundcheck.

Can we get back on topic (and take the ticket price/soundcheck price and set list discussions to another thread please)? thanks.

Any word yet on the festival gig in Delaware?

Quiet weekend in the rumor mill! Anything new? Maybe post-Grammy's, we'll be back on topic!

Do you know the source of the rumor about the Firefly Festival? Interesting...

The rumors first came from a Twitter account called EDMsecrets, which has been very accurate in the past about lineups for the Firefly festival.
-
It originated from an online user who supposedly named the headliners for other festivals long before they were announced. There's not much else known regarding Firefly. We'll have to wait and see. -Rubber Soul13

I don't think a soundcheck seat is $250. You are getting seats that cost over $1,000 that included a soundcheck.
I agree $250 cannot be correct as some seats can go for higher and nothing else is added in.

I believe $250.00 IS the top "regular" price for Paul's U.S. tickets and has been for the past few years. I remember at least one venue ticket websites (non-Ticketmaster) that used to show the price of your ticket as $250 and then show separately the "add-on" of soundcheck as an extra cost. The VIP packages add on the additional charges depending on the tier - there are 2 soundcheck packages and 2 packages that supply only the better seat and an item of collectable merchandise.

Maybe Paul and Kanye can tour together? No joke. Why not take it on the road?

Ha! Well, I bet Paul has at least thought about it. He did see the show when Kanye and Jay-Z toured together. If I were Paul, I think I would get vertigo watching Kanye bounce all over the stage the way he does. On the other hand: "Appreciate" would be awesome!

Well, that would be a DISASTER! I hope it NEVER happens.

Ha ha! Come on! Kanye for an hour, then Paul for an hour, then 30 min. of them on stage performing together! It would give Paul the "street cred" he is seeking. Or thinks he needs.

Paul would need to learn the mandatory crotch grab.
