I was giving this some thought, actually and what if he used 'New' as a concert opener? I reckon it could actually work and you'd have Abe do the little drum beat but instead of the Doo-Wop-y outro, we go straight into the acoustic intro to Eight Days a Week?
Yep, that would be perfect. Give "New" some added expose when crowd is excited and then give them their "Beatle" fix with "Eight Days A Week".
That's a really great idea! I've always been a fan of artists opening with a song from their latest album..
Yep, McCartney did it in 1989 and I thought it was great idea. IMO - opening with new song is telling the audience that you still believe you are a relevant artist and don't have to rely entirely on the past.

I've been listening to Tripping the Live Fantastic! (whatever the hell that title means) and Figure of Eight and Rough Ride both sound really cool in the first few slots. Admittedly, I'm not too hot on the chronology of the time (I've only been into music for about two years but I've learnt a lot in that time) since it was 5 years before I was born

It's Paul's clever take on the expression: Trip the light fantastic, which means dancing lightly to music.

"Shall we dance? This is fun. We should do this more often."

Now, I really like You Gave Me the Answer. It's not the kind of stuff I'm used to hearing him doing but it's like one of those old music hall kind-of songs that just warm your heart a little

I agree, and it worked so well with the screen behind him spelling out NOW as he came out, and then the song conveying the message of "this is me, this is where I am now musically." Here's hoping New will get first billing.
-
To me it's pretty obvious 'Dance Tonight' will get the axe in favour of 'New'. Two joyful songs at a solid spot in the setlist. Then 'My Valentine', which is a better song than many of the Beatles tunes in the current setlist, but since it's a post-1976 song... For a new piano song. Further more two of the solo songs at the start, I fear for 'Junior's Farm' and hope for 'Let Me Roll It'. With all but one song gone in any 2014 setlist -_-
-
Dance Tonight has already been axed from the set list hasn't it? I think My Valentine will stay unless there is love song/ballad for Nancy on the New album that he can replace it with.

LOL sh...!! Of course! Damn, luxury problem. We are going to see some horrible decisions in the upcoming setlist, and the EU will miss out on all the initial 'Out There' goodies once again.
-
If MY VALTNINE leaves the set list, I will be ok with that. Would rather hear NEW live!

I am cautiously optimistic Paul is going to re vamp his set list, adding, I predict, at least five new songs from his upcoming NEW CD.

I am even MORE cautious, predicting he'll add three.

The Japan tour will be very telling. Also, if a few UK shows are set in December, those will also be very telling.

I hope you are correct but I doubt it especially in Japan where they have not heard the Beatle hits live.

I think there is more of a chance of hearing five new songs in UK, might depend on how the new CD sells there.
-
I don't know the setlist too well (on the offchance he does come to Australia and he's still using this set I'd like to be surprised) but I'd like to think he gets rid of Mr Kite and All Together Now. There aren't many songs in the Beatles catalogue that I actually don't like at all but they are two of them.

It's pretty typical for Paul to do 4 songs from a new album he's promoting (e.g. for "Chaos" he played Fine Line, Follow Me, Jenny Wren and English Tea), so I'll predict he stays true to form in any concerts this coming winter/spring. We'll get a taste at the upcoming iHeartRadio festival.
