"Out There" 2013 Setlist Critique and Suggestions

I like them too. I am just not as much in agreement that Paul needs to play them. Why not play I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND or SHE LOVES YOU or FROM ME TO YOU? At least he wrote part of those songs. Why not play ANOTHER GIRL or WAIT or OH DARLING! or MAXWELL'S SILVER HAMMER or MARTHA MY DEAR or HONEY PIE? That's my only point. But yes, the crowd goes wild when Paul plays a Beatle tune, ANY Beatle tune.
Yeah, there are no Beatle songs people don't respond strongly to. And you're right on the additions, I'd say another ones: Fixing a Hole, For No One, What You're Doing, In My Life, You Won't See Me, She's a Woman, Hold Me Tight.
Excellent choices! I forgot about those. SEE??? He has so many good songs he wrote he can play them in concert.

And if we go back to the solo songs topic, it's totally understandable why many people wants their own dose of Macca by himself.

He's both blessed and cursed to have such a huge catalog of great songs to choose from, when you get right down to it (I've been lurking and reading this thread for several days now). It reminds me of the old saying, "he can't please everyone but oftentimes it seems he can't please anyone." (This is not directed at anyone on here...more of a general observation).

How dare you? Just messing with you Seriously, that point has been the topic for long conversations for years, since I remember when I started on this forum, back in November 2009, many fans have expressed their like for more and more new songs at concerts. And I guess we're all on our right to demand new sets, since we're paying for the shows. Then again, like you just said, everyone and anyone is pleased at different moments.

So what do you guys think he will replace Hope of Deliverance with in the US? Im hoping he keeps it. But I wouldnt mind Letting Go since he has been performing it in recent soundchecks.

I don't know why we're so quick to assume he's going to drop "Hope of Deliverance". Its not like it has a history with the country yet like "Mull of Kintyre" or anything..it's still a baby to the my band era.

I hope he plays it but he did not play it in the. US last year after playing it in Brazil Colombia and Mexico. So is there anything to suggest he will include it this year?

Aside from all of my hopes and dreams of hearing it live?

Maybe he was discontent with the performance last year? Wasn't it only played like twice anyway? So far nothing has changed on this setlist and I have a feeling it's going to stay that way. This show seems much more choreograped than the others.

Okay, can we get serious here? It wouldn't take too many changes to the current setlist to simultaneously please the masses and throw us hardcore fans a few bones. Here's the set list from Paul's opening show in Brazil last week, with a handful of changes that would, I think, set folks on this board aflutter. Changed items in boldface: Eight Days A Week ? Junior's Farm ? All My Loving ? Listen To What The Man Said ? I've Had Enough ? Paperback Writer ? My Valentine ? Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five ? The Long And Winding Road ? Maybe I'm Amazed ? Hope Of Deliverance ? We Can Work It Out ? Another Day ? Put It There ? Blackbird ? Here Today ? Your Mother Should Know ? Lady Madonna ? All Together Now ? Mrs Vandebilt ? That Was Me ? Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! ? All Things Must Pass ? Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da ? Band on the Run ? Hi, Hi, Hi ? Back in the U.S.S.R. ? Let It Be ? Live And Let Die ? Hey Jude Encore: ? So Glad to See You Here ? Lovely Rita ? Get Back Second Encore: ? Yesterday ? Helter Skelter ? Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The EndI've
Bruce, Love your choices and couldn't agree with you more. I wrote a similar post where I mentioned that Paul has wasted (in my opinion) a golden opportunity over the last 10 - 15 years to showcase great songs from his Solo/Wings Career by just adding 5 Post Beatle songs during each tour. In this way the "Beatles only" crowd and the hardcore fans would have been well satisfied. It just seems to me that Paul continues to listen to "marketing experts" instead of showing people how great his "total catalog" is. I am going to the Boston show and I will be very disappointed if I see the Setlist from Orlando tonight and he drops both Mull of Kintyre and Hope of Deliverence. Just another thing I don't understand. A great song is a great song. There is no reason that those 2 songs should be dropped because he is playing in the US. That is ridiculous. I've been to about 8 Macca shows and I have never heard either song live and I really have my hopes up. Both songs sound great on U-tube. Another thing I would like to point out and I know this is heresy but I'll say it anyway. Like many others here, Maybe I'm Amazed is one of my all-time favorite songs. The current problem in my opinion is that Paul can no longer sing it anywhere close to the way he used to. I would much rather hear Paul do another song (preferably Post Beatle) that he either can sing better or he can take advantage of his band's harmony skills. I remember a few years back when they did "Please, Please Me". The harmonies sounded great and at the same time he added something new to the setlist. Again a great song is a great song but Paul needs to realize (or someone needs to tell him) that he doesn't have the vocals to sing certain classics anymore. There are so many songs that he can choose from where he and the band can still do a very good job. I have been a Paul fan for very close to 50 years. To hear Paul try to sing Maybe I'm Amazed now reminds me of watching Willie Mays try to play baseball with the Mets when he should have retired from the Giants. It was sad to see him try to play considering that Willie was the best player I had ever seen in his prime. Music fortunately is different. Paul can still give a great live show even in his early 70's but in my opinion he needs to be selective in what he puts in the Setlist. Surely it is hard to drop a song like Maybe I'm Amazed but in cases like this, it needs to be done. On the other side it can be an opportunity to showcase another good song that would be so cool to rejuvinate. Just my opinion.

Guess you'll find out tonight. If he plays HOD you'll see a lot of people heading for beer!

Sad but true...hopefully if Paul keeps it tonight, he doesn't take this motions to be off-putting. We know he notices..."Come and Get it" got the axe because of poor audience response.

It's been twenty years since I heard Hope of Deliverance live, so I say bring it back and bring it on!!!!

P.S...still up in the air on going to D.C. but everyone be sure to check out (if you haven't done so already) the virtual seating chart on the Nationals website. Enter the section number and row number and it gives a very good idea of how things will look from your seat. For Macca fans, the further away homeplate is, the better. Of course, this is irrelevant for those you with seats down on the field. Still, it helps if you are trying to go cheap and shop Stubhub.

I think you're both underestimating the power of HOD. If he were sitting at the piano and doing a new, slow song, and some songs "off the new album" (which always signal a bathroom/beer break at concerts of well-known, older musicians) I'd agree. However this is one that gets the whole band, Abe including, front and center, and it's cheery. I think it will go over well (if he keeps it, which he'd better! )

Paul take a crack at Long Tall Sally. Does anyone else think this could happen?
