I wish he'd play more songs from the last 20 years instead of ones that he has trouble singing now. Why not play recent ones? Yes, I know all about 1st timers. How about 15 songs from the first 40 years of his life & 15 songs from the latest almost 40 years of his life?
oobu24,
I agree with you 100%. A few of us have been saying similar thoughts over the last few months. I think the only chance for a true "freshen up" tour is if Paul decides that he really wants to play his latest songs...namely Egypt Station. He certainly should remember these songs the best plus he recorded them in his mid 70's voice.
Lately, my wife has been getting me into all different types of music which has been very good. But I always come back to Paul when I feel the need. Every time I go back to Egypt Station, I continue to feel that overall it is a great album. That is why I'm continuing to hope that we will see a significant shakeup in the setlist. To me that would mean Paul and Band playing like 8 songs from Egypt Station that I believe would be very realistic. I listed them here, a page or two back. They tend to be shorter songs that even the 1st timers would find enjoyable. And as you say, there is plenty of room for the Beatle and Wings classics.
This coming Wednesday (April 13th) we will be only 1 week away from the Chile Show (April 20). I believe we will find out in Chile if we get a true "Freshen Up" tour the rest of the way including the US Shows. I'm hoping for more than just the 3 ES songs he was doing in late 2018. If that is all we get, I'll be very disappointed for an album that got so many great reviews. It would just tell me that Paul just doesn't have the drive to broaden his stage act for many of the "hard core" fans. At his age, I would certainly understand it but there is always hope and that is what I'm doing now. I can't wait to find out. It is now less than 2 weeks for the South American shows to begin.
You said April, but you mean March. I know, Senior Moment. I have those too! Lol!
Thanks Nancy and definitely a senior moment. Perhaps I have April on my mind because that's when he/band begin the USA portlion of the "Freshen" up tour. Just remember this...if Paul plays like 6 to 10 Egypt Station songs, you heard it first from me. I know...I'm still dreaming.

Less than 1 week away from the Chile Concert! Let's hope we get the "adventureous" Paul back.
For this new leg of the "Freshen Up" Tour, please give us at least 4-5 different Egypt Station songs from the ones you played in 2018. I won't mind if you continue playing the ES songs you did play (Who Cares, Fuh You and Come On to Me) but please ADD new (and better!) ones like Confidante, Happy With You, I Don't Know, People Want Peace and Dominoes).
Show those idiot "Grammy" judges how "wrong" they were.
Thanks

They're not going to perform "7 or 8" songs from Egypt Station, and it's unrealistic to think that could happen. Paul would be too worried that not enough people would be familiar with the songs and he might not get a super huge response. The ES songs do sound good enough that they should elicit a lot of applause, yells, whistles, etc., even from audience members who don't know the songs, but maybe I'm being unrealistic, saying that.

Susy, you're probably right but as I have said before...he's Paul McCartney. He shouldn't be worried in the least about how the audience reacts to his new songs. If I were him, I would be proud of these songs and challenge his audience just like he did in 1976 and 1990. He played like 6 Beatle songs in the former and 6 or 7 Flowers in the Dirt songs in the latter. He evened opened his "Flowers" tour with Figure of 8.
If I were one of Paul's close friends or one of his kids I would be telling him to think about how many "internet/Youtube hits he would be getting from his fans if he played some of the "new" songs I'm suggesting. After concerts, I have basically stopped watching/listening to youtube videos of songs that I have seen him/band perform countless times.

Totally agree Susy. Keep the three songs from ES that he played recently; they went over very, very well, at least at the shows I attended. Maybe add Happy With You or I Don't Know. As I stated earlier, I love every second of "Dominoes", but not sure it plays well live. And to be totally honest, if it comes down to playing "Helen Wheels" or anything from ES, I'll take "Helen Wheels".

I would take literally anything from Egypt Station over Helen Wheels or anything from that era.

Magical Mystery Tour with horns for South America?

Hopefully it will be the new tour opening. Enough with AHDN already.

I agree with the first part but disagree with the second part.
Back in September 1975 when Wings undertook the UK tour, 'Venus and Mars' had only been out four months. But that didn't stop them from including 10 songs (Venus and Mars, Rock Show, Spirits Of Ancient Egypt, You Gave Me The Answer, Magneto And Titanium Man, Call Me Back Again, Listen To What The Man Said, Listen To What The Man Said, Letting Go, Medicine Jar) from the album.
Of course Paul now has a larger back catalogue of songs to choose from compared to 1975. Then again, the quality of material he had to choose from the new album was better too.

Wingsoverkc,
We will have to agree to disagree. The first time I heard "Dominoes" I loved it and the song has never diminished for me ever since. It has a real "Wings" sound to it. I actually think the audience (even for those who haven't heard it before) would like it. Paul should play bass on it because he plays a phenominal bass on the song.
I also stand by what I said. Paul shouldn't be concerned about how it goes over with some in the crowd. Be proud of your new songs. Most professional music reviewers wrote very favorable remarks about Dominoes and for the whole of ES in general. Of the ES songs that Paul hasn't played at this point, Dominoes is an obvious choice. The other is "I Don't Know". Both songs should definitely on the setlist.
The problem with Paul playing some of his older Wings/Solo songs (from pre 80's) is that unfortunately Paul doesn't have the voice for them. Just my opinion, but I don't think Paul could sing a song like "Helen Wheels" anymore. At least with ES songs, Paul recorded them in his current, much older voice.

I admire and enjoy Egypt Station much more than you, Kestrel, and I'd love for him to play more songs from it, coming up. It's just that I can't imagine him performing a whopping eight songs from it in concert. I wish he would, though.

So the era that brought us Helen Wheels, Hi Hi Hi, Band On The Run, Jet, Live and Let Die, Let Me Roll It, Junior's Farm, My Love, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey doesn't match the songs from Egypt Station. Yea, right. I absolutely love Egypt Station, but IMO doesn't touch Band On The Run, RAM, or Venus and Mars.

I have to agree! (and there is no way he will do 7 or 8 songs from ES - Susy was right when she said it was unrealistic - she meant for 2019. Just because he did 10 songs off V&M in 1975/1976 doesn’t mean a thing compared to today.)

Judging by Paul's latest Concert setlists (last 5-6 years) I think you guys are right. I certainly wouldn't bet money on Paul making any sweeping changes. I'm just hoping that something has sparked Paul into playing far more from his latest album that got so many "rave" reviews.
I just have a feeling that Paul might go nuts and play 7 or 8 ES songs. Maybe he is mad at the idiot Grammy people who didn't feel that it was good enough to even get one nomination. We might find out in just a couple of days.
-
I'd still rather have him play songs from any of the last couple of decades rather than him trying to do more Beatles numbers that he can't handle anymore (or that are John songs).
-
Looks like Magical Mystery Tour may appear (as the opener?), and maybe he will add "Back in Brazil" if he was happy about how it went in rehearsal (I think he was asked about it in an interview somewhere). But otherwise I don't expect a lot of changes, as per his pattern these days. I'm always willing to be surprised, tho!

Just found a better-quality HD version of that short video of Paul rehearsing "Magical Mystery Tour" with horns:
-
I know he can't get away from feeling like he has to play certain songs. I just wished he opened up 2/3 of the setlist every time he starts a new leg of a tour (like now).
I know that some songs he cannot sing anymore but these are the songs that I think would be great to add:
Heart of the Country
Too Many People
I've had enough
Goodnight Tonight
Getting Closer
Silly Love Songs
Listen to What the man Said
Helen Wheels (I know he probably can't sing this)
My Brave Face
The World Tonight
ANYTHING off PRESS to Play!
Take It Away
No More Lonely Nights
Ballroom Dancing
Tug of War
Coming Up
On the Way
The weird stuff offf Driving Rain (not what he played in 2001-2002)
That Was Me
I don't Know
My Ever Present Past
Really, just shake it up.

adding 5-8 songs from this selection would change the current setlist to a real freshen up tour and I 'ld surely buy tickets for a further european concerts!
