Set List critique
-
Alright, I'm getting (unnecessarily) hyped up for tomorrow night, considering I'm on the opposite coast of the tour! Here's a dream list I just made up, thinking of the "formula" he's used for the past fourteen years. Very few of these songs have never been played live yet, I feel like this would make everyone pretty happy. If we even got halfway close to this, I'd be over the moon...
- I Want To Hold Your Hand
- She Loves You
- Come on To Me
- Who Cares
- She’s a Woman
- One After 909
- I’ve Got a Feeling
- Let Me Roll it
- Let Em In
- C Moon
- Find My Way
- My Love
- In Spite of All The Danger
- Love Me Do
- From Me To You
- Things We Said Today
- Two of Us
- I’ll Follow The Sun
- Blackbird
- Here Today
- Something
- Seize The Day
- Fixing a Hole
- Lady Madonna
- Good Day Sunshine
- Penny Lane
- Band on The Run
- Live and Let Die
- Let it Be
- Hey Jude
ENCORE - Get Back
- Golden Slumbers
- Carry That Weight
- The End

Note *** I made typo above. Song should have been "Let Me Roll It" not "Letting Go"
I was just about to disagree with you LOL because Letting Go had not been in the set for a long time until he brought it back on the last tour, and it is a terrific use of the horns.

I agree with you guys about the removals and swapping out he should do. Instead of Something, why couldn't he blow our minds and do While My Guitar Gently Weeps? Abe could help with the high notes! And ANYTHING but Mr. Kite for John! In My Life would be fantastic, but again, there's those pesky high notes. (he could falsetto the end)
For someone who is a known perfectionist, he sure is lazy about re-learning songs!!
Love the "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" idea and why not do it the way it was done at the concert for George (see link)? Have Paul play the piano (Clapton was lead guitar) and have Paul share the lead vocals with Brian/Rusty. When it comes to the high parts, Paul remains quiet and lets the band handle it. I think you are right, it would blow people's minds and definitely have tons of youtube hits. BTW - saw Brian Wilson 6-7 years ago and when it came to doing the high parts of songs, Al Jardine's son (Matt) took over -lol. (he has great voice).
Yeah, I mentioned it with The Concert for George in mind! Rusty could do the Clapton part.
As far as Wix Rocks' list - it's a lot of the same old stuff, plus he could never pull off My Love! That ship has sailed. I do like I Want To Hold Your Hand as the opener, and the inclusion of Two Of Us, though!

There has been lots of people mentioning "I Want To Hold Your Hand" so maybe that message has gotten to Paul, it would be fun to hear but would would worry a bit about high part. (guess Abe could take over -lol). In my mind the only questions on the set list is how many "McCartney III" songs will he do and what is the new opening song? I normally have low expectations when it comes to him making changes in set list, let's hope Paul surprises us and mixes it up a bit more.

Looking at WixRocks imaginery setlist above, my questions would be:
Can Paul still sing "She's A Woman", "I've Got a Feeling", "My Love" or "Golden Slumbers"
Do we still need secondary songs in the Setlist like:
Come On to Me (he's did that Egypt Station song on the last tour; why not "I Don't Know", Dominoes that haven't been done and are much better songs)
Let Me Roll It (he's done that forever and he can't sing it well these days)
Let 'Em In (he done it many times in the past)
C-Moon (A tertiary song in Paul's Catalog at best)
As suggested by others...why not offer different "Tribute" songs for John and George...he has plenty to choose from
I do think "WixRocks" Setlist is realistic but it could be much better with some of these suggestions.

"Looking at WixRocks imaginery setlist above, my questions would be:

The answer IMO is no -lol
"Do we still need secondary songs in the Setlist like:
Come On to Me (he's did that Egypt Station song on the last tour; why not "I Don't Know", Dominoes that haven't been done and are much better songs)"
I think the songs you mentioned are much better selections from "Egypt Station" and I would add "Early Days", "Confidante", "In A Hurry" and "Home Tonight" as possible additions.
"Let Me Roll It (he's done that forever and he can't sing it well these days)"
This song has become tiresome to me and it should have been replaced years ago with something like "Beware My Love" which unfortunately he could not sing now.
"Let 'Em In (he done it many times in the past)"
Exactly !!
"C-Moon (A tertiary song in Paul's Catalog at best) "
Never liked this song and he has done it a couple tours. Mind blowing Paul will play song like this and not many of his other wonderful solo songs.
"As suggested by others...why not offer different "Tribute" songs for John and George...he has plenty to choose from"
I loved Nancy's suggestion in earlier post, why not do "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" for George. It would blow people away and IMO get some buzz for the tour. It should be done like it was at "The Concert For George" with Paul on piano and Rusty handling the Clapton part on lead guitar and vocals.
As you and I have said a bunch BJ, "Early Days" would be perfect selection for John.

I agree, it is realistic and I think with some tweaking could be a bit better but that is just my opinion,

^ Thanks Yankeefan! We know it won't happen, but we can only dream!

My favorite songs from McCartney III are Pretty Boys and Women And Wives, so I'll be thrilled if they are added to the setlist eventually.
-
Some predictions for this evenings show in Spokane:
* Opener- I wanna hold your hand/ Get Back/One after 909.
* My guess is that the Egypt Station songs will be cut and replaced with Mccartney 3 songs.
* Either Can't buy me Love or All my Loving and We can work it out or I've Just seen a Face.
* would guess that the rest of the show follows similar pattern to Paul's last tour though would say he will prob drop Back in the Ussr (for obvious reasons) and could replace with Penny Lane or Good Day Sunshine.
* Encore: I saw her standing there or Birthday, Helter Skelter and Golden Slumbers to finish off

Based on this screen capture that I made from the rehearsal footage I'm hopeful that With A Little Luck he'll sing a song from the London Town album:

I would love to hear "With a Little Luck", but I don't think he is going to shake things that much at this point.

Wondering how With A Little Luck will sound tonight. Hoping Paul can still do that upper register rock & roll belting towards the end!

What if he did the song "London Town"?

Very disappointing opener and setlist is notihng to get excited about IMO. The only good thing I will say it is not dominated by Beatle songs but I am sure that will be later. Still has "Let Me Roll It' that he has played to death. Not thrilled he did "Come On To Me" again. Shocked that he has not done "Find My Way" yet but did "Women And Wives from "McCartney III". "Getting Better is decent addition, has not done that in many years. Always love "1985" so glad that is being played.
-
While I had higher hopes for the setlist, there's currently six songs on it that I've never heard and I'll be blessed to see Paul for the 15th time and finally in my hometown, this June. I'm excited and lucky that there's anything new in the show for me at all! I'm also glad to see three songs that have been in EVERY show I've seen, finally get a break: Eleanor Rigby, Back in the USSR, and Yesterday.
That being said, I hope he can concoct a more thrilling opener. "Can't Buy Me Love" is also a tough start, vocally. It's completely exposed 100% vocals to start the show. Not really much of an "opener". As I mentioned elsewhere, I'd love to finally hear "Hello, Goodbye", a much more fitting number...and would particularly love some more material from McCartney III. I'm shocked that just one random track (that strikes me as a drag for a STADIUM concert) is in the set. "Find My Way" or "Seize The Day" would make more sense.
Anyway, Cheers! I'll come back May 2nd and see if any shuffling occurs!
-
There's 4 songs in last night's show that I've never heard Esp addition of 'Getting Better '. Would be tempted to see Paul in concert again should he announce Uk/Europe tour dates. So from last tour it look as though the following were dropped: let em in, From me to you, Eleanor Rigby, Back in the Ussr, who cares, all my loving and juniors farm.

Get Back sounds pretty good in the youtube clip to me !

Where can I find the set list for Spokane ?
-
I haven't seen the full setlist for the Spokane Show either. Disappointed that he dropped "Who Cares"and he didn't add Dominoes or I Don't Know. Am really disappointed that he did only 1 song from McCartney 3. How do you not add "Find My Way", "Seize the Day" or "Slidin". So glad I didn't go to the "Spokane" show. Will be interesting if he adds anything to the Seattle or Oakland shows.
