Listening to that video of Elvis Costello performing My Brave Face reminded me what a great song it is. It is better than Save Us. Why not play it live???
I don't think it's better but why not play both?
I don't know. But clearly it is a superior song. Lyrically, melodically. In every way. IMO. The verse melody of Save Us is a throw away, seems it was created merely to justify the chorus. It is rushed, uninteresting and clunky to sing. The verse melody of My Brave Face is smooth with an ascending melody that leaves itself open to harmony and flows nicely into the descending melody of the pre-chorus, then BAM! "Now that I'm alone again!" Lyrically there is no comparison. Obviously collaborating with Costello will produce a better lyric and melody. You think this: Keep on sending your love In the heat of battle You've got something that'll save us Save us now is as good as this? Ever Since You Left I Have Been Trying To Compose A "Baby Will You Please Come Home" Note Meant For You. As I Clear Away Another Untouched Tv Dinner From The Table I Laid For Two. Now That I'm Alone Again I Can't Stop Breaking Down Again, The Simplest Things Set Me Off Again And Take Me To That Place Where I Can't Find My Brave Face If you say so! I don't agree.
I agree, "My Brave Face " is better musically and much better lyrically. Both would never be played live because there is very little room for his solo career songs in his set lists.
True. And playing Save Us let's him say he is also contemporary and not living in the past. I suppose in 1989 it would be like asking him to play Junior's Farm instead of My Brave Face!
True. I wasn't thinking of the lyrics or structure or chords...I just like them both.
I like Save Us as well. Just not as much as, say, My Brave Face or Hope of Deliverance.

Both of which he's done on past tours. So let the NEW songs have their day.

Fair enough as far as lyrics go... But Save us has a great guitar riff , great live track One of my favourites from New

From San Diego onwards he has to play One track from SOS - with the remaster out. I think he should skip 8 Days and Open with Silly Love Songs.

Yeah, it's the perfect opener.

I would say Paul's selection of solo songs from New work better than any in the modern touring era (since 2002). There isn't a dud in the bunch. In 2005, English Tea didn't work as a live song. In 2002, Driving Rain sent people heading for the exits. I honestly think people are really engaged with his four new songs.
-
Someone alluded to it earlier: DO we think Paul will change up his setlist at all since there has been a bit of a gap since the last show? I'm going to the Minneapolis show so I am holding out hope there will be at least one surprise.
-
If Paul, his band or coterie reads this... ...how about SHE'S A WOMAN at Candlestick Park? PLEASE! SOMETHING DIFFERENT OR SPECIAL TO MARK THE EVENT!!!

I'm sure he'll do something "special" for Candlestick..."She's A Woman", "Long Tall Sally"...wish I was going!

Yep, a song like "English Tea" makes me SMH at Mr. McCartney's selections. "Promise To You Girl" from CHAOS would have been a much better live selection IMO.

I would hope he adds something besides "San Francisco Bay Blues" but he is already doing 3 songs that were part of the 1966 setlist - "Yesterday" "Day Tripper" and "Paperback Writer." So entirely possible he won't add anything else. I always go in with very low expectations when it comes to Paul and setlist changes.
-
It was probably covered on here and I just didn't see it but if not, the Rolling Stones interview with Paul that I read on Macca Report asked him a question that we have been debating on here for a long time... He was asked " last night, you switched up your usual set a little you played "On My Way To Work from your most recent album, without even warning your band. Do you ever feel like doing more of that, just tearing up the set list and playing whatever you like"? His answer to the always contested set list debate is in that interview.
-
Yep, we saw that interview. And his response was a soul-crushing disappointment to those of us who have bought ALL of his solo albums.

Yes, very disappointing response IMO.
-
Yes, I think he even remarked in that interview he feared listeners might go "What is this shit?" if he played something less known from solo c0me on Macca, how could you call your work that

I also thought it revealed a low opinion of his audience. Basically saying they can't appreciate music that they don't know even from a rock legend - sad.
-
I hope that in Los Angeles Dave Grohl joint Paul on stage to play together "Hey Bulldog"!!
