Set List critique

Why can't Paul just add a song without subtracting a song. In KC, it was great to hear 'Kansas City' BUT he cut Hi Hi Hi. And he cut Helter Skelter in SF to play Long Tall Sally. Sorry SF fans, but HS is a highlight of this tour as is Hi Hi Hi.

He added "On My Way To Work" in Albany, and "San Francisco Bay Blues" in S.F. (without taking anything else out).

I think in SF that neighborhood has/had a curfew and it was already extended so he could play until midnight since he started an hour late waiting for all those stuck in traffic to try and get there. I think adding in songs VS. taking songs out wouldn't have worked here. I could be very wrong but I did hear rumblings around me from those familiar with the park and area saying they were surprised they let him play past curfew. I will say though I'm really glad I got to hear Long Tall Sally live!

"Long Tall Sally" is a special rarity, for sure. I consider myself lucky that I got to see him perform "I'm Down." Good compromise.

I respectfully disagree. I would much rather have "Long Tall Sally" in SF than "Helter Skelter". He's done HS at every concert for many years, so it is not a highlight to this tour. To see Paul do LTS at age 72 is a phenomenon.

Well in the 3 shows I attended this summer, Helter Skelter was a huge highlight. The response during and after the song was overwhelming; in Fargo, Lincoln, and KC ! Give me HS over Long Tall Sally every time.

Helter Skelter was just played in San Francisco last year. It has been on every tour since 2004 for whatever reason, I'm not sure. Paul McCartney also made first time appearances in Fargo and Lincoln. He could've played "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and it would've been a highlight.
-
At the risk of TOTALLY contradicting some of my previous posts: To me, "Helter Skelter" is an ABSOLUTE MUST for Macca's concerts. I was blown away when he added it to the set in 2003, and I still check out the latest performances today.

Now that's a bit of a stretch.

Well, at least it would be a new song in the set list!!
-

Lincoln was rockin!

I love Helter Skelter; Paul does some very fine bass playing during that song. That being said, I was not upset that he took it out for Long Tall Sally at Candlestick.

Same here! I LOVED being able to hear Long Tall Sally live on Thursday!
-
Long Tall Sally was the last song The Beatles played at Candlestick at their final live concert in 1966. So it's very fitting he did it as the last song before the finale this time!

Not to mention I have LOVED this song for 50 years.

Actually, John played a snippet of In My Life while the others were walking off the stage But I know what you mean, hehe..Long Tall Sally should be considered the last song from that show..IMO the original Beatles recording of Long Tall Sally is Paul's best vocal performance ever!

I suppose that apart from rehearsing new songs, he would have to change the videos on the big screens, the lightning and other stuff onstage for each new one. Maybe he would rather wait for a new tour and then do it to half a dozen new songs at once? It would seem more practical for him and his crew, as he always mentions them when playing a new song without warning those folks first. It shows he's a pro who cares about his staff and wishes to present a new song to his audience in the best possible manner.
The one thing that irrefutably contradicts your point is that Paul spontaneously added "On My Way To Work" in Albany.

I think they're very much prepared for things on the fly. It's a shame they don't get to utilize it more often....
