Get BackWell if that setlist is confirmed it is disappointing. They led people to believe there would be surprises and not a shorten setlist of the same old thing. As I said in another post, I was not expecting major change but was at least hoping for some "McCartney III" songs. It still must have been cool seeing him in a intimate small venue.

I would seriously doubt there will be a radically different setlist. Think about it, this has happened so fast that there was hardly any chance for Paul and Band to do any rehearsing and Paul has been with family (Mary and Stella, a couple of grandkids along with Nancy).
Maybe Paul could do a couple of surprises. Something simple and acoustic like Little Willow that he has never done live. As Yankeefan said, maybe we could get 2-3 from McCartney 3 that maybe Paul and Band did some previous rrehearsing prior to the Got Back tour. I would love to hear Seize the Day, Find My Way or Slidin.
I would think Paul and Band would mainly do songs that they have already done from the recent Got Back Tour. Hopefully, we'll be surprised. I think I read somewhere that Paul might bring back "Give Peace a Chance" and "Day in the Life". Again not much of a surprise since Paul has already done it on a past tour or two. Anything new would be appreciated by the "true" fans.

I think you were still on vacation when Paul played NJ. Springsteen was special guest and the first song played was "Glory Days" by Bruce with Paul and the band backing him up. Paul did sing a little harmony with Bruce. So if Paul and the band can quickly learn a song for a guest artist (probably the day of the concert) it should not be a big deal for them to do a song like "Find My Way" IMO. Somebody enlighten me and tell me I am wrong -lol.

According to something I read on Facebook the surprises were From Me To You and With a Little Help from my Friends.
...although according to this set list there was no WaLHFMF. Says he started with I Wanna Be Your Man. -

...although according to this set list there was no WaLHFMF. Says he started with I Wanna Be Your Man.It is mind blowing to me how he has just ignored a good album like "McCartney III" live. Even with a surprise show in small venue at incredibly cheap price (25 Euros), he still does not seem to want to shake it up even a little bit. His surprise of "From Me To You" was done in 2018-2019 tour. I don't want to hear about needing time to rehearse different songs because this was impromptu show and they could just "wing it". Like I mentioned in a few posts now, somehow Paul and the band learned "Glory Days" pretty quick for NJ show but I am expected to believe it would be so time consuming for him and the band to rehearse "Find My Way" or "Slidin" for this show or others on the tour.
Finally, this show should have been one where he could loosen up and do some different songs. Paul did not have to placate "first timers" and be concerned that they paid lots of money and he had to play the hits. It has become painfully clear he has no desire to acknowledge most of his solo legacy live, IMO that is sad.
See link below of Bruce with Paul and the band doing "Glory Days" and "I Wanna Be Your Man".

As Yankeefan said, this setlist for this very imtimate show is very disappointing. But as I have also said, the time for Paul to have truly shaken up the setlist was the beginning of the "Got Back" tour. Paul and Band had plenty of time to give the true fans a lot of new songs compared to what you did prior to Covid and during the 2018-2019 tours.
Hate to say it and I've said it before...Paul is just "mailing" this tour in. Very little preparation in my opinion. Paul is in a very good situation. He realizes that he is going to "sell out" regardless of what he plays mainly for nostalgia reasons. People want to see him for "bucket list" reasons. He still gives a very good show for first timers and casual Beatle fans. He is a consumate showman. But for the "true fans" who have stuck by him during good and bad times throughout his long career and who have continued to buy his Solo albums etc. it's disappointing to say the least.
As I have said after seeing the "Got Back" Setlist this past April, he and his great band should have done 3-4 songs from his newest album (Mccartney 3). On top of this, he should have rotated a few (and might I add better songs) from his great Eghpt Station album instead of playing the same Egypt Station songs (e.g. Fuh You and Come On to Me). How difficult would that have been? As several us have said on your own Website, how about a couple of real surprises from your so underrated and great Solo career like "Little Willow" or "Early Days" that have never been done previously. We're also not against you adding a couple of Beatle songs you haven't done previously. A song like "Rocky Raccoon" or "I Want to Hold Your Hand" would have been a great surprise for everyone.
As Yankeefan has said, I too have given up. At one time (2002 or 2005 tours)I thought Paul was the greatest live performer (up there with Bruce Springsteen) but not any more. I know he's 80 but he's still a workaholic and gives almost 3 hour shows but please Paul give us at least some effort in improving your Setlist. As I have said, I don't expect a major shakeup to your setlist. Yes I know you have to play a lot of Beatle songs to the casual audience and first timers but give us the "hard core" fans some surprises. Give us a tasty amound of your latest songs but not the same songs. You are so prolific you don't have to play the same songs. Add some new ones from Egypt Station and McCartney 3.
Paul you still are my favorite musician and songwriter but this current "Got Back" Setlist is "lame" compared to all the great songs you are still writing. But it takes a little effort to give the "true fans" a better show. It's not that your not working hard but you have to showcase your unbelievable talents. It takes a little more rehearsing so the true fans can hear great songs that you continue to "not play. I would think for your own legacy you would want to play more newer songs instead of playing the same old , same old.
A frustrated old fan who still loves your new music.

He probably did "From(e) me to you" as a nod to the location
Considering the setlist was the same old, same old, I wonder if t's really wise for an 80-year-old to do a two hour show (including voice-killing "Helter Skelter") 24 hours before his headlining, nationally televised gig at Glasto.

Great post BJ and agree 100%. Paul and the band can rehearse and do a special song for guest artist that is appearing once but heaven forbid they rehearse 2-3 songs from his latest Grammy nominated album. Add me to the list of frustrated old fan who loves your new music. I am done -lol.

No it was not wise IMO for 80 year old singer to do a two hour show before doing major show in front of nationally televised audience the next day. His voice is not that great anymore to begin with and he probably should have been resting it so he does not sound hoarse. If he wanted to prepare a little bit the day before than cut your show to an hour and don't do any full out rockers. For his sake, I hope the appearance goes over well.

Chris Whitten & Robbie McIntosh were in the audience.

OOBU24 - Thanks for posting that picture, very cool they were at the show. Chris has aged a lot better than Robbie from that picture -lol. I always wondered why Wix was the only band member from the 1989 and 1993 tours that continued to play with Paul. Chris only played the one tour with Paul, was replaced in the 1993 tour. Does anybody know if Paul asked Robbie or Hamish to play again with him when he decided to tour again years later? I thought I read Paul was looking for guitar players when he was recording DR. Wonder if they were at the show as "guests" of Paul or Wix or they actually bought tickets - ha ha. Would have been awesome if there was a picture of Paul with the three of them.

There was a pic with Abe but not Paul. That would have been nice.

B J, agree with everything you said. Sadly, Paul continues to "phone" it in (which is the expression, but with Paul we could start a new one: he's "snail mailing it in!")
-
Add me to the list of fans frustrated with the same ol' setlist. From Me to You has been done in soundchecks recently - so wasn't that much of a stretch to drop it in. He could have mixed in some other soundcheck songs very easily and made it at least a tad different from the regular concert setlist. One could even say he could give the "cheap seats" folks a taste of the setlist he reserves only for the people with the expensive soundcheck packages.
I'm really bummed we haven't heard McCartney III songs live, other than the short lived inclusion of Women and Wives. It's not like we're asking him to do a vocally challenging song from when he was in his 30s. He JUST recorded these songs 2 years ago. Sigh.
Also, You Never Give Me Your Money is not new! As he's been saying. He did it in 2002. Granted it was a different arrangement on piano not followed by She Came in Through the Bathroom Window, and mashed up with Carry That Weight. I distinctly remember him poking fun at not knowing the words and "I don't think I'm even going to bother to try and learn them before the end of the tour", so I guess he finally learned them. lol

@crazy4beatles
Hi it’s been a long time since I’ve been here!
I live 15 mins from this venue and drove like Lewis Hamilton to get there on Thursday afternoon and missed tickets by about 30mins ️. I stood in a “reserve” queue which we were told could get us tickets if people buying did not have photographic ID. 3 hours later I drove home. Undeterred I turned up on Friday afternoon at 4pm to hear ( vaguely) Wicks singing at the sound check. A few hundred in the carpark, all fans without tickets. The venue holds 800 but because of the stage and kit only 400 tickets were sold. On top of that 100 tickets were reserved for MPL guests. The “100” went in a side door. They seemed pretty much like people who were there for the occasion, ( the people who couldn’t even name a solo album if their lives depended on it).
Macca arrived and waved out of the car window. He started performing and then it started raining . Hundreds left for home. About 100 people stood along a footpath to the side of the venue. We could just make out the songs. It became a “name that tune” competition ( I won )!! I had no coat or umbrella and got soaked through. Friendship’s were made . What annoyed us was seeing ticket holders standing outside talking DURING Maccas performance!!! I mean COME ON! Who does that!! Real fans waiting hours, standing in the rain and people who have the tickets are OUTSIDE!
Anyway. I wandered back to my car, dripping wet, which was parked by the exit of the small carpark. As I’m stood by the drivers door a black limo pulls up beside me, the driver pausing before pulling out onto a little side road. It’s just me, the limo and 3 feet in between the rear seat passengers. Their window is down and HE is there beside me! The moment I have waited 43 years for and im stood hair and clothes stuck to me from 2 hours in the rain, and all I can think of to say is “I STOOD IN THE RAIN SINGING!” . So Macca thumbs up and says “thank you”. And it was to ME, no one else was there ….. just me…. My jaw dropped to the floor and I could have cried I was so happy. I drove home literally on cloud nine . A 57 year old crazy blonde acting like a teenager .
My family and old friends were emotional for me…… after all the years of banging on about Macca and the concerts, posters in bedrooms, t-shirts etc etc etc they were just glad to hear the end of it! Although I will dine out on my story for the rest of my life.
Im still smiling just thinking of it weeks later 🥹
