Paul McCartney- New Album for 2023

@b-j-conlee
You can see by just switching out a few tracks, you can easily have just as good (or better) overall Playlist/CD. Here are the tracks I substituted:-
That Was Me (Live Version)- As many know this track originally was originally on "Memory Almost Full" (MAF). It was released in 2007 and I think it was a very underrated Album. "That Was Me" was placed in the 2nd half of the CD and was part of a "loose" Medley within the album. The fact it was done in 2007 makes it around the latter part of Paul's current Discography. Having it as a stand alone track in a new compilation gives it a different feel imo. Paul also only did the song "Live" at a few selected venues. One version I really liked was the "Paris" Show (the Olympia Theatre I think). This gives "Leftovers and Rarities" a very rare track in the mix.
-
Lindiana (Unreleased). This very rare track is another really good Ballad. It was slated to be released on the aborted Return to Pepperland Album but obviously never happened.
-
Summer of 59 ( B-Side Only) - Another Hidden Gem that was only released as a B-Side. It was on the flip side of the Jenny Wren Single (Chaos and Creation Album. One of the many "Rockabilly" styled songs that Paul has written.
-
I Want to Come Home (from the Everybody's Fine Soundtrack) - A very underrated Paul "Ballad" in my opinion. Because this Robert Dinero movie was a flop a the Box Office, doesn't make the song bad. On the contrary, I love this song. Both the melody and lyrics are terrific imo. I love the way Paul repeats the word "Home" after he sings the title line.
Classic Paul piano and lead guitar imo. -
Cut Me Some Slack (with the Foo Fighters) This would add another "Rocker" to the overall mix. From what I understand, Paul wrote the preliminary song and then brought it to the Foo Fighters studio to record.
Does this revised track list better than my original 22?

Another potential "rocker" to add to "Leftovers and Rarities" is:- Wlole Life - On the " 46664 / One Year On" Nelson Mandela Charity CD. In 2003 Paul and his Band along with Dave Stewart Re-Recorded "Whole Life". If it is better than the "Rough Mix" we heard on the 2020 Flaming Pie Archive Release, than it belongs on "Leftovers and Rarities".
-
@toris ....okay!
-
As I recall, the criticism of MAF was essentially because many listeners thought the audio sound to be compressed. I didn't mind it all being a bit louder....there was enough differentiation between louder and softer parts. I had no problem with compression.

BJ, you replied to yourself but didn’t say anything. That’s so unlike you!
-
It's a vocal treat! Paul's voice is just dynamite.
ps. If The White Album was cut down to 14 songs, I'd have Why Don't We Do it in the Road on there, definitely.
-
BJ... Soily?.... Girl's School (I think in some lands a double A-side, but really in most lands it was a B-side to the superior Mull of Kintyre).... But a great song. I think it should make the cut.
And if it wasn't technically released.... I'm one of the people that actually liked.... Mary Had a Little Lamb.
And I quite like Return to Pepperland.

- Home Tonight - Double Sided Single and not included on the "Egypt Station" Album 2019
- In A Hurry - Double Sided Single and not included on the "Egypt Station" Album 2019
Not necessarily better than my original 22 Track CD but it better covers Paul's "entire Solo" career. Tracks include Unreleased songs, B-Sides, Rare "Live" Versions, Soundtracks etc. As far as I know, none of these tracks/versions are included on Paul's Original Studio Albums. Also none of these tracks appear on Paul's previous Compilations.

As usual, there are a couple of typos on my list above. They're are actually 22 tracks... 2 songs were listed twice for # 7 I believe.I'm obviously a big fan of Paul McCartney. I'm also a big fan of many of his rare songs. I did this "made up" CD/Playlist in the hopes that Paul or someone close to Paul (even one of his kids or grandkids ) see this highly unusual Track List. I think many of these songs should be "well known" but unfortunately many are actually obscure nuggets from his massive catalog. I also think that as a new compilation (for convenience sake, I aptly named it "Leftovers and Rarities") it could do very well commercially. Of course it would need, as with any new product, good marketing and publicity. As with Paul's other newer and recent releases (McCartney 3, Egypt Station) Paul's team has proven they can provide those necessities.
I also think it would be very good for Mr. McCartney's legacy. As a product, it easily proves that many of his even obscure songs are quite good. As you can see above, I have chosen 22 tracks. If this "Starter CD" is successful, Paul has many more "good and relatively unknown" songs for a "Follow Up" Package.
Thanks

My favorites would be "That Was Me", "House of Wax", "Summer of 59", "On the Wings of a Nightingale" and "Home Tonight".

@yankeefan2
Hey Yankeefan
Love your favorites. I also love "A Love for You, Yvonne's the One, Flying to My Home, and I Want To Come Home".
I recently read a review of "Memory Almost Full" and the writer mentioned that his favorite song on MAF was "House of Wax". I was a little surprised but I'm glad that at least Paul did the song at a few of his shows. -

I have that too..... second-hand.... I didn't express myself clearly. I meant if it wasn't released (it seems to get forgotten as a single release)... it would've fitted the criteria and I'd have included it on the proposed album.

I do like my latest proposal for a 1CD/Album Project for a Leftovers and Rarities type album. So many of the songs are "happy, feel good" styled tracks. From the opener instrumental (Squid) to songs like "Thank You Darling", "A Love For You" and "That Was Me". Even a latter period song like "Turned Out" (from the Deluxe/Collectors Edition of the "New" Album)has a feel good, happy sound.As far as "Singles" for Leftovers and Rarities, here would be my choices:
A Love for You - for "Top 40" Radio Formats
I Want to Come Home - for Adult Contemporary or Soft Rock Radio Formats
Flying to My Home - for Rock/Country Radio Formats

@b-j-conlee
Looking at my proposed 22 Track/1 CD Compilation Starter Set (see here on Page 14) one of the key selling features is that almost all the tracks are not Duplicates of past Paul Compilation. Contrast these 22 Tracks with what we basically got in Paul's last compilation (Pure McCartney in 2016). So many of the same songs and even the exact same versions.I think a new compilation like "Leftovers and Rarities" would successfully sell as long as the "marketing and publicity" was very strong. That being said, here would be my "Follow-Up" Package. Because Paul has so many "Leftovers and Rarities, I think Paul should do a 2CD, around 40 Track Set:
Leftovers and Rarities Part 2

For those who have just popped onto Page 14 of the topic called: New Album for 2023, I started off page 14 with a 1 CD "Starter Set" for a compilation package I call "Leftovers and Rarities". The Starter CD (22 Tracks) contains:
- Songs not on original Paul McCartney Post Beatles' Solo or Wings albums.
- Unreleased Material
- B-Sides
- Rare Live Versions
- Soundtrack Tracks written by Paul
At the end of Page 14, I continue with a Follow Up 2 CD Package for "Leftovers and Rarities" using the same criteria.
Let me know what you think of the overall selections. I'm sure I missed some tracks and give me some specific examples. Keep in mind that this is not a "Hits" package. On the contrary, these are songs that are good but for whatever reasons, they were mostly "Leftovers and/or Rarities".Thanks
-
Recently I've been second guessing my choice as a track opener for the "Starter CD" I'm proposing called "Leftovers and Rarities".
I've decided to go back to my original thought for the "track opener" which was My Old Friend. In my mind, it covers both parts of the suggested "title". It is both a leftover and rarity.
Carl Perkins originally wrote the song on the Island of Montserrat while he was a guest of Paul and Linda McCartney during the Tug of War Sessions. Eventually Carl and Paul did complete the song "Get It" that made it on the Tug of War Album. But while Carl was their guest, he also wrote "My Old Friend" as an appreciation for the wonderful time he had on the Island.
Paul liked "My Old Friend" so much he convinced Carl to stay in Monserrat a few extra days so they could do a proper recording at George Martin's Air Studios. On the recording, Carl Perkins is the Lead Singer and plays 2 guitar parts. Paul McCartney does the Back-up vocals and plays organ, rhythm guitar, bass and drums. George Martin is the Producer and does the Strings' Arrangement.
The sentiments surrounding "My Old Friend" makes it a great choice in my opinion for "Leftovers and Rarities". It has multiple Beatles' connections. One of the lines in the lyrics says:
"My old friend
Won't You Think About Me
Every Now and Then"According to Linda, that lyric line was very close to the last words that John Lennon said to Paul on their last conversation together. The lyrics really hit Paul emotionally as Carl was singing "My Old Friend." As Linda tells it, Paul had to leave the room.
