Paul McCartney- New Album for 2023

@toris
I get your point and Yankeefan had the same feeling. I just liked the first half of the title and I took it to mean the opposite...that Paul's "Leftovers" are better than most of the other "Artists" out there. Like you, I thought that many of his Leftovers were better than many of the songs that actually made it onto his original albums. Not all, but better than some that made the cut. The more I thought about it, I started to think that "Flip Sides and Deep Cuts" would be better. It was Yankeefan who came up with this title and it does have a more "positive" implication for these more "overlooked" songs. I just couldn't believe how many Paul actually has. -

It's clever and catchy in my opinion. The most important thing in this proposed project are the "Track Lists" themselves and Yankeefan's title surely is "true" to its contents.

I have a few Doctor Appointments over the next couple of days but I promise to give a "Summation" Post to this topic by this Weekend. I'm sure many here will be happy. -
I will give you my summation of this thread now because I feel you should have the "last word" on this topic. It is a testament to the greatness of Paul McCartney that he has written so much wonderful music that is basically unknown to the general public. It would be nice in future years if MPL understands an idea like yours is not commercially viable but releases something like you suggested to kind of put a "bow around the box" on Paul's career. I am not holding my breath for this to happen, but one could only hope. It is sad IMO that a fan like you seems to love Paul's solo music more than Paul himself. I have told you before that if they ever decided to do this type of project, they should let you be in charge -lol. So, my final comment will be to thank you for reminding me of some excellent music I had forgotten about and made me revisit these wonderful songs.

My Summation for this long Topic:
Title - Flip Sides and Deep Cuts (formerly Leftovers and Rarities)
A Proposed Multi-Disc Package/Compilation for Paul McCartney's Post Beatles' CareerContents includes:
1 CD Starter Set
3 CD Follow-Up Package/CompilationIn reviewing the Contents to "Flip Sides and Deep Cuts" I instantly began to compare this Proposal to Paul's last Compilation project- 2016's Pure McCartney. My first thought is how different my proposed Project is to "Pure McCartney".
The Pure McCartney Compilation had so much duplication from Paul's previous Compilations. It was mainly a big Greatest Hits Package released in several CD formats. Not only did they use the same songs from past Macca Compilations but they used the exact same versions you would find on original Paul and Wings Albums/CDs.
"Flip Sides and Deep Cuts" would contain radically different Songs focusing on Paul's Material that didn't make Paul's Original Albums/CDs. The Content would be filled with B-Sides, Rare "Live" Versions, Paul songs from various independent Soundtracks and Deep Cuts from Paul's Solo Albums that weren't designated "Singles".
I proposed this Package to "enter " the Market with a very inexpensive "1CD Starter Set" (about 20 Tracks) . To be successful with a "New Product" have to get the biggest portion of your "Target Market" to buy into it or at the very least generate strong interest. This was an idea from a fellow Maccaboard member (Bruce). With good Marketing you have to get "Casual Paul and Beatle Fans to "take a chance" on buying an inexpensive Paul CD. I envision this Starter Set retailing for Under $10.00 (Introductory Sale Price through a retailer like Target or Walmart or through a big Direct Source like Amazon
From the Contents alone, I have full confidence that Hard Core Paul fans like me would buy. However, you have to get the biggest part of the market (Casual Paul and Beatle Fans) good reasons to buy also. That is why "Marketing" is the key. I also have very good confidence that Paul's Team and Company would provide excellent Marketing. To be successful, you have to get pervasive TV, Cable, Newspaper and Magazine coverage and publicity throughput your entire market and you have to get as many positive reviews as possible. Just looking at Pauls last 2 Albums (McCartney 3 and Egypt Station) Paul and his team have proven they can get the publicity required for a new Album/CD.
On top of this, many of the individual songs have great stories to tell in their own right. The opening track in the Starter Set alone (My Old Friend with Paul and Carl Perkins) and how this song originated during the Tug of War Sessions. This is a wonderful story that potentially would garner tremendous free publicity. All of this is part of Marketing and who is better from that perspective than a world known artist like Paul McCartney.
As I've said, Marketing is an essential key to the success of any new product. Honestly, I know little about the costs of Manufacturing, but as a "Compilation" type of product and to keep the costs down, I envision just basic packaging for "Flip Sides and Deep Cuts". This would also be quite different than Paul's "pretty" Archive Collections' Series that have contained more high end packaging. In this case I believe the music is the Key rather than expensive packaging. The focus is on the "Contents" with "Rarities and New Unearthed Material" sparking the interest in my opinion.
I would probably envision less "Editorial" Costs as well. Many of the B-Sides here were "Official McCartney Releases" so I would imagine they would need little to no editing. Paul and his Producers/Engineers would go out of the their way to make the recordings as perfect as possible.
One thing you wouldn't have to worry about for the most part is Paul's vocals. Almost all the B-Sides and "live" performances were done when Paul's voice was at peak levels.
Looking at my track selections, I'm pretty satisfied that they are good to very good choices in the "Rarity" Category. That being said, you can always quibble about a few selections or omissions but generally I'm happy with my final track lists.

@yankeefan2
Thanks for your kind words Yankeefan. I agree with you 100% that many of the songs/tracks would be "unknown" to Casual Paul and/or Beatle fans. Like you said, the fact that many did not make the "Final Cut" to be included on their corresponding Paul original Solo Albums does not make them bad songs or throwaways. In fact I think the bulk of the tracks would make good "Album Cuts " if they could be released. With the 1 CD "Starter Set" and the 3Cd Follow-Up Package I ended up with 88 Songs. I was even surprised he had that many good songs that could be put in the "Rarity" Category.I put together my Summation Post last night and sent it this morning. I'm definitely ready to put this "topic to bed". I'm satisfied that I finally finished my Selections and I'm happy with them. It was funny because I initially was thinking of a 2 CD Folloe-Up Package but I had so many additional songs I had considered, I decided to make it into a 3 CD Compilation. You could call it the Deluxe Edition. I'm also happy with the final "Title" to this proposed Project. Thanks as always.

Final Review for "Flip Sides and Deep Cuts".1CD Starter Set
Of all the Disc's in this Proposed Compilation for 2023, the "Starter Set CD is the most commercial in my opinion. It also has the most potential "Singles" for a project like this. My Single Selections By Radio Format would be:
A Love For You (A -Side) - For Top 40 Formats
Waterspout (B -Side)Loveliest Thing (A -Side) - For Adult Contemporary
I Want To Come Home (B -Side) - and Soft RockCut Me Some Slack (A - Side) - For Rock Format
Flying To My Home (B -Side)On top of the "Single" Selections, this Disc contains great Paul Demo's like On The Wings of a Nightingale, Yvonne's The One, Back On My Feet,
Lovers That Never Were, Thank You Darling etc.Grade 9 (Out of 10)
Follow -Up Discs
Disc 1
Terrific Early Wings tracks like Country Dreamer, The Mess, Night Out, Best Friend etc
Good B Sides like Sally G, Write Away, Tough On A Tightrope, etc
Rare "Live" Versions from Off the Ground and Rare Classics like Mull of Kintyre, Wanderlust and Only Love Remains.Grade - 8.5 (Out of 10)
Disc 2
Great B -Sides from Chaos and Creation, Terrific Soundtrack Songs and Rare "Live" Tracks you never hear on the Radio.Grade - 8. 5 (Out of 10)
Disc 3
Great "Live" Songs from Run Devil Run and Excellent Deep Cuts from Egypt Station, Electric Arguments, and Driving Rain etc.Grade - 8.5
In Selecting a Compilation Package of Many Unknown McCartney Post Beatle Songs especially for Casual Paul and Beatle Fans, my Overall Purpose and Hope was that Paul would Release this Kind of Package. Amazingly it shows just how many Good Songs didn't make "Original Paul Solo Albums/CDS"
Thanks for your patience!

@b-j-conlee
As I said, I really like the Revised Title..."Flip Sides and Deep Cuts". Speaking of "Deep Cuts" 2 Songs that would be very good Additions to the last Disc (Disc 3 on the Follow - Up Portion) would be:Alligator - Excellent Deep Cut on the "New" Album in 2013. It was never a Designated Single on "New" nor did Paul ever sing it "Live" on one of his many concerts.
Early Days - Another Great Deep Cut on the "New" Album. Unfortunately, Paul never did it on Tour. Early Days would fit very well with 2 Songs on the "Starter" CD..."That Was Me" and "Summer of 59"
As I've said, you can always quibble over Song Selections and/or Omissions but the 2 Songs directly above would be very good additions if they could be "squeezed in" on any of the Discs on "Flip Sides and Deep Cuts".
I promise this will be it from me on this Topic - New Album for 2023.

The more I thought about the whole idea of a "Leftovers and Rarities/ Flip Sides and Deep Cuts" Compilation, I think Paul easily has enough good songs for a Deluxe Package (3 CDs) of this proposed project. Keeping to about the same # of tracks (22), here is my recommended Disc 3:- Mama's Little Girl - B-Side to "Put It There"
- Once Upon a Long Ago - Single in Great Britain but pretty "Unknown" in the US
- Keep Coming Back to Love - B-Side to one of the "Off The Ground" Singles
- Kicked Around No More - B-Side to one of the "Off the Ground" Singles
- Try Not to Cry - one of Paul's own songs on the "Run Devil Run" Album ( Choose the best "Live" Version)
- What It Is" - Another one of Paul's Originals on "Run Devil Run" (Pick the Best "Live" Version)
- Run Devil Run - Title Cut from "Run Devil Run" (Pick the best "Live" Version
- Lonesome Town - Great Ricky Nelson Cover from Run Devil Run. Paul makes this cover his own in my opinion (Pick the best "Live" version
- Brown Eyed Handsome Man - Great Chuck Berry Cover ( Pick the Best "Live" Version
- Shake A Hand - Great cover of a Little Richard original. Paul's "Live at the Cavern Club" vocal is fantastic in my opinion.
- Celebration - This beautiful Instrumental was done ""Live" on the "Secret Internet Concert" circa 2002. Could be Disc 3 Track Opener
- Magic - Great Deep Cut on "Driving Rain"
- Sun Is Shining - Great Deep Cut on "Electric Arguments. Recently appeared on the "A Man Called Otto" Movie
- Dance Till We're High - Another Great Deep Cut on Electric Arguments
- Demon"s Dance - From the Deluxe/Collector's Edition of the "New " Album/CD
- Two Magpies - Great Deep Cut on Electric Arguments
17, Get Started - From the "Traveler's Edition" of Egypt Station. Best Version in my opinion - I Can Bet - Great Deep Cut from the "New" Album/CD
- Dominoes - Great Deep Cut on Egypt Station
- 60 Second Street- From the Travelers Edition of Egypt Station
- Off the Ground - Title Cut on the Off the Ground Album/ CD. Use the "Up Close Concert Version
- About You - Great Deep Cut on "Driving Rain"
Really a great lineup that I would love to see.
Was India released on anything?
