Paul McCartney- New Album for 2023
-
Several media outlets including videomuzic are reporting that Paul McCartney has said that he will be releasing a new album of unreleased songs in 2023.
I would love this since I've been pushing for a Macca
Solo Compilation of Unreleased, B-Sides etc. that were never on original McCartney Solo or Wings' Albums.
Thanks to an idea from another Poster here (Bruce) let's start with a 1 CD Starter Package. My suggestion would be approximately 20 Tracks as below:- My Old Friend- a song written by the late great Carl Perkins during the Tug of War Sessions.
- Goodbye - Paul's Demo that he wrote for Mary Hopkin.
- A Love For You - Originally written during the Ram Sessions but the best version was included on the In-Laws Soundtrack.
- The Mess - Live Version done by Paul and Band circa 1972. B-Side to My Love
- Sally G - B-Side to Junior's Farm Single. Great Country Style Song
- Maybe I'm Amazed- Live "Rockshow" Release
- Daytime Nighttime Suffering- Great B-Side to the Goodnight Tonight Single
- Waterspout- Unreleased track from the London Town Sessions
9.Cage - Unreleased track from the Back to the Egg Sessions. - Rainclouds - B-Side to the Ebony and Ivory Single.
- Uvonne's the One - Great Unreleased track from the Press to Play Sessions
- On the Wings of a Nightingale- Paul's Demo written for the Everly Brothers in 1984.
- Loveliest Thing - B-Side to the Figure of 8 Single
- Back on my Feet - B-Side to the " Once Upon Long Ago" Single
- Once Upon Long Ago - Single only released in Great Britain
- The Lovers that Never Were - Paul and Elvis Costello Live Demo
- I Can't Imagine- from the Off the Ground Sessions and B-Side to C'Mon People Single
- Love Come Tumbling Down - Unreleased song from the Mid 80's
- Flying to My Home- Unreleased song from the 80's; Great Rocker
- Love Mix - Unreleased song from the 80's
- In a Hurry - Single and Extra Track and never included on Egypt Station
- Home Tonight- Single and Extra Track never included on Egypt Station
This would be a Great CD/Playlist with all songs not appearing on their corresponding original Albums.

Interesting, I had heard that he was recording some new material in the studio.
Most likely he is polishing up some of the unreleased songs just like what he did for A Love For You for the In-Laws Soundtrack.2023 is going to be an interesting year!

Please change the title of this thread. Maybe Fantasy album for 2023?

If you read the beginning of my post, it is based on multiple outlets reporting that a new Paul McCartey album will happen in 2023. A couple of the reports are saying that it could be an album of previous unreleased material. -

As usual, I had a couple of typos on this original post. I posted the #9 track twice...Cage and Rainclouds. The total # of tracks 22.#10 track is spelled Yvonne's the One.
#14 title should read "Once Upon A Long Ago". -
A few years ago, I had read somewhere that Giles Martin had offered to work on a compilation of unreleased Paul material. I don't have any idea if this is it but we will see. I hope that there is material that nobody has heard as much of his unreleased material (while fantastic) is well known to the fans.

Sorry, BJ, I won't be happy with your listing as a new 2023 release. Love it, though. I'd be happier with new material - hopefully better than McCartney 3... and I would love an album of stuff he has had in the vault for years, all to be properly produced and released... and, yes, with the working hand of Giles... and, ideally, with a lot of it being songs we have never heard before... that never surfaced on bootlegs (who am I kidding?).... maybe a mix of all... who knows?... just great to hear that some kind of album is waiting in the wings.

@b-j-conlee The videomuzic article quotes the interview on this site (29 Dec) where Paul talked about new music recorded with Andrew Watt last year, not unreleased material from years past. With this new album and now another book it looks like the Archive Collection is done for good.

I wouldn’t count out the Archive Collection so fast. It may not be released for a few years or (God forbid) after Paul dies.

Just want to make it clear, if Paul has enough material for a brand new Album, that would be my first choice too. On the other hand, if the new Album isn't going to be ready till 2024, the idea of an unreleased/B-side type album would be a good "fill-in" type of CD package in the meantime.Getting back to my original post of a 1CD 22 tracks package, what do fellow posters think of my tracklist. On the whole I think they are pretty good. You can always quibble about a few song selections.
Of course, if Paul has a few more unreleased songs in his vaults (like he did on McCartney 3 with the closing track) and they were songs that even hard-core fans have never heard before, I would be thrilled to add them to this Starter package.
I like many of the B-Sides I included in my 22 tracks
but technically, they aren't truly "Unreleased." For me that's something that doesn't bother me, since many "casual" Paul fans don't know most of them.
That's really the point. Paul McCartney's Post Beatles Career has been so underrated and an album like I'm suggesting would do wonders for his overall legacy. How many Musical Artists have written so many high quality songs thadidn't make it on their "0riginal albums. -

As far as the "Starter CD and 22 Tracks" for this project, there were a bunch of other songs I also considered. Here they are:- India - unreleased and initially shown on the internet only as a live performance from Paul and the Band. Love this jam type song.
- Arrow Through Me - best song on Back to the Egg and YouTube is showing a remastered version that I love.
- Wanderlust- one of Paul's best Solo songs ever from the Tug of War Album. Love the Broad Street Version with snippet at the end of the song with Here There and Everywhere.
- B-sides from Chaos and Creation including: Comfort of Love, Growing Up Falling Down, This Loving Game, Summer of 59, I Want You to Fly and She Is So Beautiful. The last song was a bonus track on the Japanese Edition of Chaos.
- No Other Baby - Great track on Run Devil Run and the "live version" at the Cavern is even better.
- Whole Life- the Best version is on the "4664 One Year On" Soundtrack.
- I Want to Come Home- from the "Everybody's Fine" Soundtrack.
- Cut Me Some Slack- from the "12 12 12 Soundtrack.
- In the Blink of an Eye- from the Ethel and Ernest Soundtrack.
- My Soul - from Nitin Sawhney "London Underground" Album
There are a lot more choices.

One of the reasons that I would love a new package featuring unreleased songs, B-Sides, rarities etc. is that the last compilation of Paul's Post Beatles' Career (Pure McCartney in 2016) did a horrible job in track selection. My feeling was that it was just thrown together at the last minute. It had way too many duplications of the exact same songs/versions done on previous compilations. Where we're the:
B- Sides
Unreleased songs
Live versions and Rarities
Newer Collaborations with Other ArtistsMany people on here on Maccaboard could have done a far better job. Consequently it didn't sell well. Hopefully we will get a new "Career Spanning" package that shows the genius songwriter and vocalist that Paul McCartney is. As I have said before, he is far more than just "Beatle Paul".
Barring a new Paul album of brand new material being available in 2023, this is the type of Macca "music" I want over the next 6 months or so.
Thanks

Personally, I just want any new album to be new music and not unreleased songs he had hiding in the attic -lol. I looked at your list and I like so many of the songs but after thinking about it I wondered if I would buy such a compilation. I have found in the last couple of years that I listened to McCartney less and less and listen to other artists more often. Things I buy now are more likely to be newer artist. For example, recently got CD of Wolfgang Van Halen that I enjoyed. If I want to listen to McCartney music, I tend to want to hear the more conventional solo songs from his CD's.
I have said many times now, I don't see the MPL team doing compilation while Paul is still alive. I also do not see a commercial market for this type of project. Paul has enough trouble trying to sell his new music even with doing promotional appearances/interviews in attempts to sell his CD's. I will say once again, love the idea and your passion for his relatively unknown music but in reality, don't see it happening.

@b-j-conlee Only 2 of Paul’s albums sold worse than Pure McCartney. Who wants to guess which ones before looking at the link?
