Concert is on my wedding anniversary and we had already made plans. Plus, I did not want to bother my niece about trying to get tickets for her uncle especially with her not going -lol.
I can understand that. Happy Anniversary.

from LATIMES
10:15 p.m. “Hollywood f—ing Bowl!” says Paul McCartney, who tells a story about being invited to one of Buffett’s places during “the last week of his life” to “sing a couple songs for Jimmy.” Buffett “was in a pretty bad way, but he still had that twinkle in his eye,” McCartney says. “Tonight I thought I’d sing one of those songs.” That’s his cue for a stately “Let It Be,” for which he brings out the Eagles — have these rock giants jammed together onstage before? — and which gets what looks like the entire place on its feet. — M.W.
10:20 p.m. Paul McCartney chugs a giant margarita onstage tonight to introduce the night’s sendoff. —AB
10:25 p.m. If there is anything I learned tonight it is that Jimmy Buffett was a singularly unifying force. The ability to assemble Sir Paul, Eric Church, Snoop Dogg and Pitbull on the same stage is a large enough feat, let alone calling each of them a friend. Tonight, the cast was diverse and the vibeage was off the charts. Turns out, Margaritaville is a special place. — E.O.
10:35 p.m. All the heavyweights are back onstage for a rousing, appropriately wobbly “Maragaritaville,” and there’s something very moving about the way this weird (and really very sad!) little party song has become the anthem it has to so many different types of people. And that’s a wrap for Buffett-palooza — except, perhaps, for Sir Paul, who looks like his night is just getting started. — M.W.

Paul performing at Hollywood Bowl...

Really Paul. You play one song at tribute concert for your good friend and you sing "Let It Be" and really not that well. Damn, can't even pick a "Buffett" song to learn/rehearse to honor him. Sorry, I am not counting the song "Margaritaville" with everyone.

@yankeefan2 You know Paul. It’s always about him. (“This is one of the last songs I sang to him”)
-
Exactly - lol. As much as I like him and respect his talent he can be so self indulgent and come off as a phony. In that situation if I was him I would have sung one of Buffett's songs and if I even did one of mine it would have been something upbeat to lighten the mood for Buffet and his family.
-
@yankeefan2 How do you know it wasn't Buffet's family that may have asked Paul to sing this song the other night? None of us know WHY Paul decided to sing this song... Are you saying The Eagles are self indulgent and phony as well, they sang two of their own songs. It wasn't just Paul that did one of his own songs. Or Jake Shimabukuro for singing a Queen song or a Beatles song?
-
Yep, anybody who does their own songs in a concert that is supposed to be a tribute to another artist (especially one who recently died) is being self indulgent IMO. Do I know if the Buffett family asked Paul to sing "Let It Be" the answer is no. My gut tells me that they did not say one word about what they wanted him to sing. So let's say hopefully many years from now when Paul has passed away they do a tribute concert for Paul. Tell me that you are good with artists at that concert doing their own songs.
-
@yankeefan2 Yes I am fine with artists doing their own songs at a tribute concert because again I have NO idea why the songs chosen were chosen, none of us do. A tribute concert can also consist of songs that the other artist really enjoyed, not just their own stuff. Maybe Jimmy Buffett loved "Let It Be" and that is why Paul not only sang it to him days before his death, but also sang it to him at the tribute concert, we don't know for sure.
-
Then we will agree to disagree. I think it is more of a tribute to the person if you take the time and effort to learn and perform on one of their songs in their honor. You know, like Paul doing "All Things Must Pass" at the "Concert For George".

“Margaritaville” – Full castI agree Paul should have done "My Gummie Just Kicked In" since he played on it. There was no reason to do a Beatles song for a Jimmy Buffett Tribute show.

I agree!

Exactly!! Paul played on that song for the last Buffett album and he can't even take the time to rehearse it and played it at the concert. Sadly, this is not surprising.
-
Has no one here read that Paul said before playing "Let It Be" at the tribute that he was doing it because he sang it for Jimmy the last time they met, when he was very ill a week before he died?
-
Yes, I read it and it still would have been more of a tribute if Paul sang a Buffett song. Ok, sing "Let It Be" and then do a Buffett song. Paul seemed to be in charge of this event so he could play what he wanted. Very simple, honor the man and his music not yours. Like I said in another post, Paul did Harrison songs at the "Concert For George". He did not sing something like "Yesterday".
-
@yankeefan2 Ok now are you are just reaching for reasons to be upset about Paul singing "Let It Be", seriously. I have read no where that Paul was in charge of this event, so not sure where you are getting information from.
-
None of us are aware of the behind-the-scenes decisions that are made when Paul decides what to and what not to sing. Whether it be on tour or for a benefit show like this one.
Honestly, I don't understand why people who seem to do nothing but complain are even here. It will accomplish absolutely nothing, except make this forum a bit hostile.
-
@annika Exactly! And since my last post I did actually do a quick Google search and found out that it actually Jimmy's wife who coordinated this concert.
I'm not saying that everybody has to like every single thing Paul does, but geez, as I've said here before Paul could sneeze and there will be folks here that will complain he didn't sneeze correctly or to their liking.
-
OK. Paul was the headliner does that make you feel better -lol. Paul can sing any damn thing he wants. I am just voicing my opinion that honoring somebody means paying tribute to their music not Paul's. Please stop it with the people complaining nonsense. 99.5% of the posts on this board are complimenting and praising Paul. The harshest treatment Paul gets is some people (including myself) wish he would perform more of his great solo songs live.
-
I have been on this board for many years and have complimented Paul thousands of times and praised his solo albums and many concerts. It is funny to me that the Paul "fan boys/girls" can't handle the slightest criticism of him. If you read my earlier post, I did not like the two members of the Eagles doing their songs either. In other words, I did not just criticize Paul.
