Maurice Hines Dies: Tap Dancing Star Of Stage, TV, Film Was 80
Maurice toured in Jelly’s Last Jam, the show that earned Gregory [Gregory Hines, his brother] a Tony Award on Broadway.“Jelly’s Last Jam” is based on the music of Jelly Roll Morton published by Paul’s MPL Music.
Fun Fact: I went to college with George C. Wolfe, co-author and director of the original production of "Jelly's Last Jam" (and, more recently, director of "Rustin" and Chadwick Boseman's last film, "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom"). He was 2 years ahead of me, so while I knew him, I didn't know him that well and I tend to doubt he'd remember me now. But it was obvious even then that he was a major talent.

"All Things Must Pass" as a single album
The general consensus seems to rank "All Things Must Pass" as George's best solo album, a conclusion I've never agreed with. It's always struck me as half a great album and half a rather tedious one (I'm not even considering "Apple Jam" which I played once in 1970, put away and forgot). While I don't generally like threads on music forums in which people rearrange the tracks on artists' albums (I generally believe in trusting that musicians know what they're doing better than I do), I've always thought ATMP would be a kick-ass single album, so after 50+ years of stewing over this, here's my 1-CD version of ATMP:
- I'd Have You Anytime
- My Sweet Lord
- Wah Wah
- If Not For You
- What Is Life
- Behind That Locked Door
- Apple Scruffs
- Let it Down
- Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)
- Awaiting on You All
- All Things Must Pass
Feel free to tell me if you think I'm insane.

RE: Five Best Artists Live - Non Paul/Beatles
I don't really get to a lot of concerts so I'm not sure I could name 5, but my top 2 are John Prine, whom I saw 5 times before his untimely death from COVID-19, and Tony Bennett at the 2004 Bridge School benefit. Bennett is not my usual type of music, but he was effing great and totally won over what was basically a rock & roll audience.

To each their own but IMO this album is absolutely trash and has no redeeming songs. Sorry but I am not a fan of "Temporary Secretary" and "Coming Up" even though they were "hits".
Yeah, and I always wondered why John was so enamored with “Coming Up” that it made him want to release new music.
To me, Coming Up and One of These Days are the only redeeming moments on the album, though I much prefer the live Coming Up. Someone on Steve Hoffman's boards noted that the likely reason for the album's reappearance is due to holiday streams of Wonderful Christmastime, which was included as a bonus track when the album was reissued and so now get counted as part of the album -- so it's probably not likely that thousands of people are suddenly buying/streaming McCartney II. If that's truly Billboard's methodology, it's royally dumb.

I hope so! Elon is an evil POS.

New Lemon Twigs single, "My Golden Years"
If you like Beatles, Wings, & Beach Boys, you should give this a listen. These guys are really good.

RE: Best Wings Live Line Up
It's hard to judge, having only seen the 1976 lineup in person. From the clips I've seen of the other Wings incarnations, they seemed perfectly fine, but that's an incomplete sample at best. Joe English was quite a good singer, in addition to his drumming, and I don't think the other Wings drummers were his equal in that regard -- though they never got the chance to sing lead as Joe did in "Must Do Something About It."

Quite sure of that, but there are only so many hours in the day and I have so many other priorities! No offense! ️️
You have a higher priority than hunting down my favorite songs?!?!?!?

White Room - Cream
Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum
Knights In White Satin - The Moody Blues
(I’m sensing a pattern here!)
Layla (fast version) - Eric Clapton
Heat Of The Moment - Asia
Make Your Own Kind Of Music - Mama Cass
No Matter What - Badfinger (sorry, is that Beatles-related?)
Baba O’Riley - The Who
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
I’ll Be True To You - The Monkees
God Only Knows - The Beach Boys (stolen from Yankeefan!)Tastes vary, of course, and I would never object to anyone enjoying whatever they enjoy. But "Knights in White Satin" was one of those songs that was ubiquitous when I was in high school and that always made me leap to change the station before the dry heaves set in.
FWIW, I would say "No Matter What" isn't Beatles-related since none of the Fabs wrote or played on it -- unlike, say, "Come and Get It."

10 Non-Paul, non-Beatles-related songs you couldn't live without
On a given day this list from me might change a bit, but here's a start. What are yours? In no particular order:
Tutti Frutti -- Little Richard
Kodachrome -- Paul Simon
Life'll Kill Ya -- Warren Zevon
Dead Flowers -- Rolling Stones
Your Flag Decal Won't Get You into Heaven Anymore -- John Prine
The Comedians -- Roy Orbison
Diamonds and Rust -- Joan Baez
Women 'Cross the River -- Linda Ronstadt
It's My Party -- Leslie Gore
Let Him Dangle -- Elvis Costello -

Tommy Smothers was a genuine comic genius, and the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour was the best thing on TV at the time. The CBS censors had no clue about that they had, or what they were giving up.

@bruce-m That would be a hoot! I’m not sure everyone would appreciate it, but I would!
I’m having a guy who sang at my 2nd wedding (we’re divorced, but still remain in contact for big life events) sing Tears In Heaven, You’ll Never Walk Alone and Morning Has Broken. (they gave me a list to choose from) After the service they said we could play the original CD of The Beatles “In My Life” as everyone walks out.
And the words to “The End Of The End” will be printed on the left inside cover of the program. You clearly take these things more seriously than I do. Of course, I'll be dead, so I won't get to see folks' faces when "It's My Party" starts playing, but I guess that's kind of how it goes at funerals.
Fun fact: When Elizabeth Taylor died, she left written instructions that she had to arrive half an hour late to her own funeral.

@njr I am so very sorry Nancy.
Thank you my friend. The last year was awful for us, but I take comfort that her suffering is over now.
Watching a parent's health decline is tough. My mom had a really rough death from COPD. My dad had it easier, but suffered some dementia the last few years -- happily, he still knew us and knew who he was, even if he couldn't remember anything that happened 10 minutes before. Hang in there, Nancy. It seems like your mom had a pretty good life, and you'll always have the memories.
MAF came out just as my dad's health was going into its final decline, and "The End of the End" always choked me up. Paul's attitude in that song -- "On the day that I die, I'd like jokes to be told" -- was so much like my dad it was eerie.
Thanks for your kind words Bruce. My dad passed in 2016, just shy of 90 years old, also from COPD. But he was sharp as a tack until the very end.
I want to have “In My Life” played at her service. I was thinking about “The End Of The End” too. My mom was also a Beatles fan and was my “enabler!” She went with me to see Paul in 1976, 1990 and 1993.
I begged her to take me to Cleveland Stadium in 1966 to see The Beatles (I was 11 and it was a 25 mile drive) She said “We’ll go next year.” I never let her live that one down.
She was the best and everyone she met loved her.I must state for the record that, if my next of kin choose to have any sort of funeral for me, I have requested that it conclude with playing Leslie Gore's

"22. Julie asks: Will we ever get to hear the songs that you wrote for a musical stage version of It’s A Wonderful Life?
Paul: I hope so, yeah! Musicals are difficult things to put together, but I think it may be shaping up at last. So, hopefully you’ll get to hear the songs."
No specifics but at least a glimmer of hope -lol
Let us hope it's something solid!

RE: No, Paul McCartney should not retire
@jimmix said in No, Paul McCartney should not retire:
" Not to be rude, but when you're seeing McCartney in concert, or any artist for that matter, the quality of the voice shouldn't matter." WTF? You're going to see someone sing for 3 hours and the quality of his voice shouldn't matter? I'm sorry, that's nuts.
Yes, he's an icon. Yes, we love him. But if I want memories, I can play the records. Sure, if folks who've never seen him live have seeing Paul McCartney on their bucket list, go for it -- just remember you're seeing an 81-year-old. Personally, having seen him 6 times, I'm at peace with the decision I made several years ago to stop seeing him live anymore.
