RE: Perth, Australia, nib Stadium, December 02: CONFIRMED
Just wondering...is there a lot of hype (radio...tv...billboards) about Paul's first concerts in Australia in almost 25 years?!?!

Really a shame in that "On The Road Again" would be a great opener!

RE: Concert schedule - what is normal?
AcresOfFun:
I got a bit OCD and looked into raw numbers for the shows I went to last month (USA) and, along with my memory and the video Chris the DJ posted of his set, my guesstimate is ~30 min Chris and ~30 min pre-show, immediately following the DJ, so Chris on average starts about an hour before Paul arrives on stage, but it varies considerably. Each set can be shrunk or expanded as needed. So I might guess a 5:30 PM Chris start and 6 PM pre-show start for you, but Paul is frequently at least a half hour late, especially in the NYC area it seems. Also, do you know if there's an opening act for yours? The early gate opening and start times on yours make me wonder if there might be. When Paul had an opening act at CitiField in '09 I recall the gate opening time was something like 5 PM, which was the time printed on the ticket. We got there around then and had to wait a long time before and during the opening act, which irked an impatient companion of mine.
I recall Paul came on around the usual 8ish time. You could try to time things based on when Chris starts, but those approximate times are not set in stone so I wouldn't chance sitting down after the scheduled start time, though I think you can assume Paul won't go on stage before the scheduled start time. Of course, getting there as early as you can is worth it so you have time to relax beforehand, pick up merch, eat, use the restroom (3 hour show coming up!), and listen to Chris's awesome set. Also, the line to get in sometimes gets a lot longer closer the official start time. I tend to hang out in the common areas and wait to take my seat until right before the scheduled showtime so I'm not up and down because of myself or others in my row.
Here are the raw numbers based on timestamps on my photos and videos. The best I can do for the Chris and pre-show timing is look at the first and last photos/videos of them each day, with the caveat that I often listened to much of Chris's set in the common areas, where I didn't take photos. Out of curiosity, I looked at Paul's arrival times too and, based on these numbers, arrival time doesn't seem to have much to do with the start time, but it might affect the actual (as opposed to printed) gate opening time. The gate opening time doesn't seem to have much effect on Chris's start time or Paul's on stage time. FYI: the time from when the ADITL crescendo starts in the pre-show until Paul appears on stage is consistently ~90 seconds.

I would get there as early as possible and "enjoy the atmosphere" of Paul McCartney in Concert.

Do all of you who went have connections to first responders?
I didn't...I bought tickets as soon as it was announced.
Hmmm all these years I never knew there were tickets to that on sale to the public! Don't know why I thought otherwise, but maybe they would've been out of reach to me then. I had hoped 12/12/12 would be another special one, but it wasn't really the same thing. Brian seems to have completely forgotten about it!
Yea...you're right. While both concerts were amazing, the Concert for New York City felt very different. Most important, in my opinion, was the feeling all over the world following the tragedy of 911. In addition for all the McCartney fans, this would be the first time Paul was going to be on a New York stage in more than 8 years! Also, he had a brand new band and LP. While I enjoyed both events, the Concert for NYC was special!

That was my first Paul concert experience and have done 102 shows ever since
This was also my first time seeing Paul perform. It's hard to really explain how I felt about the show because I think I like so many others was still numb, but to see so many performers come together for all the right reasons was really magical. I must be slacking because I just hit 30 times seeing him this year in Newark
You're not slacking...30 shows is a lot! But...102 is REALLY A LOT!!!

RE: Let's speculate about the upcoming NY area run
AcresOfFun:
Regardless of one's feelings about the repetition in Paul's shows, it enabled me to throw this together: a "music video" for Maybe I'm Amazed using multi-view footage from the 8 NYC-area shows:
. I didn't have this project in mind before or during the run, but the videos I wound up with seemed to lend themselves to this sort of thing. All the stuff going on from different vantage points -- another reason Paul shows aren't boring.Let me know what you think! I've also been having other fun combining footage from those shows, like Paul shaking his butt to And I Love Her 8 times in a row from different angles (best last!). You're welcome.
I have several other projects in the works combining footage from the shows too. Here's a playlist of everything so far, which also includes the In Spite solos and limo watches: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGeWl2XzyEql7UCSqwCbKcQ_Ju3ml_Qoe.
Fantastic job!! Really enjoyed watching them!

16 Years Today
Can't believe it's been 16 years since the Concert For New York City...the first "official" concert by Paul's current band.

RE: Ringo And All-Starr Band - 2017 Tour
thenightfish:
I saw the first two shows, and the main difference in the setlists this year is that the show is a little bit shorter. Ringo was also doing "Don't Pass Me By" and that's been cut out, and Richard Page and Steve Lukather have lost one song each. "Rosanna" and "Broken Wings" got some extended instrumentals to compensate, it seems, but it still makes the show shorter. Ringo has been doing the same songs for years anyway, with some rotations ("Back Off Boogaloo" and "I'm the Greatest" tend to swap in and out, for example). No surprise that he does the 70's hits that people know. If he did anything more obscure, he would lose the audience. As for "Give More Love", he said he was singing it as a message for Las Vegas, so in that context, it makes sense, instead of another song from the new album. But he still looks good, is having fun, and I don't really blame him for coasting a little at 77 years old. Still fun for me to watch him drumming to the All-Starrs' songs. And I realized after the Sat. night show that Paul and Ringo were performing two of the same songs on the same night, in two different countries: "I Wanna Be Your Man" and "Give Peace a Chance."
Thanks for the very nice review
