So Rolling Stone magazine's review of Ram is out and -- believe it or not, try to keep yourself from laughing at the irony -- it's 4 and a half stars. The very brief review calls Ram "a grand psychedelic ramble full of divine melodies and orchestral frippery" and asks "Ram sounds ahead of its time ? how many indie rockers could pull off such a daffy masterpiece?" http://www.rollingstone.com/music/albumreviews/ram-deluxe-edition-20120522 No mention of course of the fact that Rolling Stone's review of Ram in 1971 helped trash the album to bits. My how times change. But, good for Rolling Stone for finally recognizing greatness -- 41 years after it appeared.

They ought to publish that review from 1971. I remember Ram was totally trashed by them and others. Funny, the same thing has happened with the Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street--hated in the early 70s, extolled now. I guess better late to a party then never to arrive at all. Welcome to Ram, Rolling Stone!

Any UK folks got their deluxe st yet from Topspin?? Have had my downloads but want my boxset...

Great review of Ram in the AV Club, which gives the record an A. http://www.avclub.com/articles/paul-and-linda-mccartney-ram,75461/
It?s not only his best solo album, but also among the best of all Beatles solo records. If All Things Must Pass is George Harrison?s zenith, and Plastic Ono Band is John Lennon?s definitive solo document, then Ram similarly encapsulates what McCartney brought to The Beatles and the direction he pursued in that group?s long shadow. The initial knock on Ram from critics?that it?s ?lightweight? or, to quote Landau, ?pure rock muzak??is actually (when heard with sympathetic ears) a big part of what makes it so appealing. ... The result is a record distinguished by loopy humor, funky looseness, the homey chemistry between the two principals, and most of all, melodies stacked upon melodies in likeably eccentric packages.

Looks like Ram in knocking the critics dead the second time around Rolling Stone 1971 - ?Ram represents the nadir in the decomposition of ?60s rock thus far? Rolling Stone 2012 - "After his homespun solo debut, Macca shot for the moon on the follow-up ? a grand psychedelic ramble full of divine melodies and orchestral frippery...Ram sounds ahead of its time ? how many indie rockers could pull off such a daffy masterpiece?" Eat Your Words!!!!

No. And I haven't even had an email telling me when they will be dispatched. Shocking. The LAST people to get this are people who buy it from his own website. :

-
Nice interview with Denny Seiwell, thanks for posting. Can't wait to hear Rode All Night after reading his description of it. My Ram should be here later today.

As others feel.Ordering from Topspin through Pauls own site. You`d expect to be one of the first to recieve your order.I pre-ordered 3 weeks ago so you would think that they would have the packages boxed and ready to go and delivered on the day of release.Oh well. The best comes to those that wait....not.

Seriously, how did Landau listen to RAM, and think 'nadir'? that guy is seriously the 'villiage idiot' of music and I don't mean to insult villiage idiots on this one how much does the Vinyl Delux package cost btw?
-
Does anyone know the recording dates for the two bonus tracks? Eat At Home - Smile Away Uncle Albert Jam
-
Has anyone else checked out the Percy Thrillington FB page? God, it's getting weirder by the hour. and have there been any cool tweets with the Ramming of the stations?

Man, I am LOVING this deluxe set!!! Honestly, i could do without the sheep book....but I think this thing is great. It is really everything I could want with from this album, and well worth the $90. It sort of makes me regret paying the same price for the BOTR edition!!

My deluxe set just arrived and I've been spending my time looking through it. It's BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED. I'd have been happier if it was $75, but I can't say I feel cheated at all. One of the coolest things in the set are the lyrics pages that are reproduced so faithfully it's like Paul sent you the real thing -- complete with doodles and coffee stains on them. They're amazing. And the little book of sheep is hysterical -- it's completely ridiculous and pointless and yet made me laugh out loud. Only Paul. I haven't yet read the accompanying book (just looked at the photos, which are terrific, including some I'd never seen before). But the text is all done in Q&A style with comments from Paul and various musicians/engineers involved in Ram. Now I'm on to the music (I haven't listened to Ram in probably 18 months so I know I'm in for a treat). I may not be back here for awhile. I think the only thing I'll be disappointed by is Disc 2 (he should have included more demos on the CD).

And those 8X10's are gorgeous! I've watched the DVD and read the book...I'll listen to all the music tonight...except Thrillington, I';ll save that for tomorrow
