BREAKING NEWS: Magical Mystery Tour Next BLU-RAY/DVD release
-
Ane:
Paul's commentary is listed on the British Board of Film Classification's website along with other extras. http://www.bbfc.co.uk/BVV091435/ This means Paul has recorded his commentary and it's been approved for release.
Hallelujah! I already have it on DVD, but guess I'll be getting this new version, too.

Hi, Nothing on Amazon UK about this but if you type in Magical Mystery Tour to the search box on the UK store page of the beatles.com then it's quite interesting. http://www.thebeatlesonline.co.uk/search.html?term=magical+mystery+tour Nothing about it on the store front though - you do have to use the search box to see this at the moment. ^ i'm excited now!!! i still have the VHS from when it was first out on video in 1990, and maybe i'm an old hippy but i love it i just hope the new extras and Paul commentary are on the DVD and not just exclusive to blu-ray.... that seems to happen a lot lately, and for no reason as there is room on a DVD for it!!!
-
Jeepers, it doesn't seem like yesterday since the last re release of it on dvd and video before that. Where does the time go? The only Beatle projects that to me are of any interest or warrant consideration are Let It Be dvd. Hollywood Bowl Live CD. I have a vague urge to hear the finished Now and Then (I actually quite liked Free as a Bird and Real Love) but can only think it will get criticised (probably by me!!!). Paul would unfairly be accused of cashing in and ruining the Beatle legacy and JL would never have done this, so I can't really see the point despite a little bit of me wanting it. Back to MMT, put Paul back some extra strong cups of tea and let him do the commentry and I will perk up!
-
Yes but technically MMT has never been released on DVD, certainly not in the UK. The copy everyone buys is an import, you have never been able to walk into HMV or any high street store and buy it, it doesn't exist! Only on online stores and conventions is it over here. So it's a welcome release

www.thebeatles.com is now featuring the MMT release on its front page, and is advertising both a deluxe box edition, but also a limited theater release starting on September 27th. I doubt any Vermont theaters will get it, but the rest of you who live in civilized parts of the world should try to catch it.

"SPECIAL FEATURES: All of the packages contain a host of special features, packed with unseen footage. There are newly-filmed interviews with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and other members of the film's cast and crew, as well as a director's audio commentary recorded by Paul. Very exciting. Hoping to check this at a theatre as well. Guess that means Let It Be is next.

I'm hoping for, but not holding my breath for, a Let It Be remaster, or even a real release. I'm just not seeing that happening, though for so many reasons, so I'll have to stick to my staticky bootleg copy.

I am SO excited about this release! The MMT DVD I have looks pretty shabby and I am looking forward to being able to see a good print. I checked Amazon.ca but they only have the blue ray version for pre-order and nothing else. I sure hope they get the deluxe version. I don't have a blue ray player and have never watched a film in blue ray, is the difference really that major? Does the blue ray impart an "unreal" or unnatural quality? Has anyone compared the difference in something like Yellow Submarine? I bought the new Yellow Submarine regular DVD and thought it looked great.
