Anyone have the newest figures for sales, what day does Billboard post or announce for the latest week? Someone told me but I keep forgetting which day, is it today? He dropped in the USA last week, but his worldwide sales kept him at number 19 second week in a row. I am presuming he is getting a pretty big sales bump in Japan and some nearby countries because of his tour there. I would guess he is home by now, and will take it easy through the holidays, Ringo said he and Paul will participate in the Beatles special in Feb on CBS, and there is a big grammy tribute the night before the CBS Special. I presume there will be a couple big Beatle anniversary releases beginning around Feb. So I would guess, possibly McCartney will either tour solo and promote both NEW and the Beatles releases, or else lay off till late spring, early summer. He will eke his way to half a million NEW sales, over the next month or two, but if he comes out gangbusters with USA and European shows, I still think he can pass a million pretty fast What are the numbers this week? Anyone know Happy holiday everyone

NEW is down to 94 in week 6 on Billboard. Pretty lousy. Passing a million in the US is illusionary. Gold status would be great, but even that isn`t a safe bet. Shame because it is one of Paul`s best Post - Wings albums.

Can't see him passing a million in the U.S. either, but a tour next year could help. I notice that Elton's new album has dropped off the top 200 already. We just saw Elton last night, and with a new album out, he's doing a "hits" show, with just two new songs. The thing with Elton and Paul, even when they do play more new songs, is that they play so many hits from the past that everyone in the audience forgets about the new album by the time it's over and is just happy to re-live their youth.

On a brighter note (since I've been called a "Debbie Downer" in other threads), "Queenie Eye" continues to inch up the U.S. Triple A airplay chart, now at #28 as of Thursday, with 195 spins in the past week, the highest numbers it's yet logged: http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=255603 That's not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it's interesting that it keeps slowly gaining even after promotion for the album has ceased and it's dropping down the Billboard chart. It's even getting played a bit by my local Triple A, KFOG in San Francisco, albeit mostly at 2 a.m. And it is getting played by some noncommercial stations (I think someone's mentioned WXPN in Philly) that aren't included in these commercial surveys. Still, if he's going to revive interest in the album, Paul needs to tour the U.S. right after the holidays (actually, sooner would be great, but I don't see that happening).

Radio 2 seem to play Queenie Eye quiet a lot here in the UK...in the middle of the night!!! I don't know why they even both with such a pathetic token gesture!
-
Not had time to listen to much radio this last week or two but the only Paul song ive heard is Live and let die heard it about 5 or 6 times in the last few days and the mystery of the albums poor sales here in the UK begins to be answered.

I can't get my mind around why they still have not released a vinyl version of the album. I think they lost a lot of potential buyers there. And if Paul really wants to be hip and cool and youngish (as he seems to try) it's just a huge mistake to wait so long.

From a stance of ignorance, I must ask how many more buys of New would they have got out of vinyl?... I understand the charm of vinyl and all, and perhaps the different sound, but I'm not a real vinyl fan... even if I do have 100-150 records sitting in my joint, more as ornaments and a monument to the fruits of my pocket money than anything.... I don't have a turntable anymore and I find it annoying having to get up and change the record over... am I getting lazy?.... or fully morphed into lazy, rather....I still remember buying Double Fantasy and having to get up every second song to skip over Yoko's "contribution". Now that was annoying!
-
I'm not a business person but a friend of mine was at a Jake Bugg gig in Germany recently and told me everybody was buying vinyl there. It was sold out after the show. I think people who really value music buy vinyl more often these days. Even the big consumer electronic retailers have LP sections again. So it must be of some significance, I guess.

I never said I thought he would sell a million in the USA. I said I thought when all was said and done, he would sell a million worldwide in total. To me a million copies is good, USA sales aren't more important than sales somewhere else in my book. He's creeping towards half a million now, he held steady at #19 on the worldwide charts last week, I imagine because he got a bump in Japan and Asia. In retrospect, I'm beginning to wonder if some big Beatles 50th anniversary releases are focusing more of his attention right now. We know about the new Capitol releases on CD, the CBS special, preceded by a big tribute at the Grammy's the night before. Ringo said he and Paul will both be on the CBS special. The Let It Be movie is supposed to be in the pipeline for release. People have been telling me Now and then is coming out which would be huge, I don't know if it's true, but I know the source is generally correct about these things. All The Beatles official videos were pulled off the internet by Apple, EMI, and Sony, so I'm wondering if all the videos will be packaged for sale on DVDs. The new BBC just came out. That's like a giant wave of stuff.. Maybe he will tour in the spring and promote both the Beatles 50 and NEW, and New will sell a lot of copies as a result. Who can say. Also Apple asked fans to send in any audio or video for a new Live compilation they are doing. Maybe the 50th is a good time for a huge program like the Beatles did in 95 for Anthology and again in 09 for the remasters and then Itunes. Or maybe I am totally wrong, and McCartney is getting old, New did as expected for a 71 year old artist with declining sales, and the Beatles will disappoint with a couple modest ho hum releases, I guess we'll find out.

That would be a big thrill for Macca, too, to see "New" come on on vinyl Remember that pic of him holding a vinyl album of "Electric Arguments," he was so proud, and that gorgeous colorful abstract painting of his really looked super on its cover. I'd love to see a similar pic of Macca holding a "New" vinyl album with its beautiful colorful cover art. Not on topic, but I saw a pic of Paul in an anti-turkey eating tee shirt aimed at Thanksgiving, yesterday in my facebook newsfeed. I wonder if that's a new picture. It came from his facebook page.

A friend of mine ordered NEW on vinyl quite a while back, and he is still waiting on it. What's the delay?

I didin't realize he painted that! That's nice yeah. I remember the Press To Play drawings, they underwhelmed me. Even if the vinyl only gave him another 20 thousand copies in the first month, that would have been substantial. His people are like the Marx brothers or the Keystone cops! Not getting Starbucks to play the album for release day. He sold an extra 80 thousand copies of MAF the first week because Starbucks did that, for that album. Here is the kicker, someone may ask, why should Starbucks do that? Because McCartney is signed to their label! They have the biggest artist in rock history, and they stiff him and hang him out to dry with his rear end hanging in the wind! I mean he is their artist! I'm sure McCartney must love vinyl, its warmer, the packaging is nicer, because its so much larger. I've gotten used to CD's now, I don't have five grand worth of vintage hifi equipment, you can still buy a great turntable, speakers and amp like the old days, but it costs a mint! My living room isin't that large where I wanna rock the whole neighborhood, I live by the sea also, corrosion. But, audiophiles love it, and for a vintage act like McCartney, the king of classic rock, between the no vinyl, and the lack of support from Starbucks, that must have cost him at least a hundred thousand sales the first few weeks. And why did he go to Japan so quickly, why not continue hitting all the tv shows, radio interviews, pop up concerts for another couple of weeks first? Why not have a decent video for the single NEW. Which had no video at all! why do no promo at all once the album comes out and immediately take off for Japan. Say hypothetically, the most McCartney can possibly make on three million copies of NEW (the album) would be say, ten million bucks, and he would have to work the album for months on tour, and interviews, and pop up concerts... Maybe again hypothetically, maybe he made fifteen million for one week in Japan, maybe he's only made one million bucks on NEW< and only stands to make another one or two million tops, he can make more, playing three shows in London Or New York over two or three days! McCartney's staff, their lapses seem inexcusable to me. I'm sure the boss, would like to sell a couple million units worldwide of his super NEW album. they have gotten their boss almost no airplay, no video for NEW, no promo once the album came out, no traditional advertising on tv or in music magazines, no support from Hear music at Starbucks. they are indeed the Marx brothers, instead of firing those hapless groundskeepers in Scotland who let his property get rundown, he should fire his nearly worthless support staff, if he can pry their hands away from the company credit cards and perks long enough to get their attention. Poor guy, is making a great new album and his people are doing God knows what, nothing effective that's for sure, what if that is his last rock album ever, and it doesn't do well, because his team stinks at what they do. God that makes me angry, can you imagine he probably pays those people.
