Revisiting "Memory Almost Full"

Will you three queens please put your claws back in? (Just lightening the mood.)

With Bruce on this one, though I rarely agree with him. I love MAF. I always go to my 20 something daughter about McCartney; she is almost a bigger fan than me. Regarding this subject my baby said that MAF made her the fan she is today; she thought NEW tried to hard to be contemporary and "so 2013" in her words. She thought MAF could have come out in 1977 and soared to #1. From the mouth of babes...

I like the fact that I can play NEW for my younger buddies and then surprise them by telling them that it's Macca.

Sorry, not trying to start a big argument. May I express my 'gratitude' at your attempt to 'save us' from each other?

Touché!

Save US is far superior to Only Mama knows. Obviously this is a matter of individual taste. Funny how Bruce tends to remind other people of that fact, unless it's his opinion....then ,truly, it is the gospel. Have I missed something? Oh...and I thought it was more than obvious that New is way more of a rock album than MAF. And that's not Even a question of taste....All You Need is ears, as the title of a Book by someone well known to the Members of this board suggests. Hereby I solemnly declare that NEW is a better album than MAF ! I also declare that the use of irony is not the exclusive prerogative of Bruce M. esq.
I respect your opinion, and I really like Save Us, but Only Mama Knows is far better (in MY opinion). To me, it's almost epic in terms of the production, with the strings and all the embellishments, and beyond that, it rocks way fucking harder than Save Us. That being said, while I like MAF a LOT, I think New is a stronger album.

Just listened to MAF tonight, and I will say, Bruce, that although I may dis it somewhat here, it's still very enjoyable, and since first hearing of your personal connection to "The End Of The End," it's hard not to think of it when I hear it. Very touching. And I meant it when I said I respect you.

<blush> Thanks. Very kind, even though we have our disagreements!!!

MAF is one of my faves of his recent releases. Fvery time I hear the MAF name I remember the Starbucks listening event. And we made the press release! My daughters are shown at 1:26 and I am interviewed in there a 3:39. lol MEMORIES ARE FULL INDEED

Love this album. Remember that interactive That Was Me, where you could type in questions to Paul, and if you got a few keywords right, you got to hear Paul give you an answer? I spent hours on that thing trying to hear all of the different answers, however found that I missed a few when the You Tubes came out! The famous "goat" joke!!! Vintage Clothes, See Your Sunshine, Only Mama Knows, End of the End, Dance Tonight... actually I play this whole album without any skips!! And what a way to end it !! Nod Your Head Great Album!!

This is the only Paul album I've never heard.

Nice! Three of us had our own little "listening party" that day.

Last night I played MAF all the way through for the first time in several months, and I was just blown away by how effing great this album is. What I love so much about it is all its many moods, from the mysterious, brooding "You Tell Me" to the theatricality of "Mr. Bellamy" and the gloriously loopy weirdness of "Feet in the Clouds" and "Nod Your Head." I know some on here don't care for "Nod Your Head" or Paul's choice to end the album with it rather than "The End of the End," but to me it's the absolute right choice. I say this as someone with a deep emotional connection to "The End of the End," because it came out just as it was becoming clear that my dad did not have long to live (he died about two months later). I will never be able to listen to that song without a lump in my throat, but having "Nod Your Head" follow it is just so cathartic, such a release of all that pent-up emotion. It truly is the living embodiment of the line, "On the day that I die I'd like jokes to be told." I rather think my dad would approve (though he'd think it's too loud and noisy).
Ditto. I just played it all the way through the other day for the first time in about four years, and loved it. All of it. I especially liked the medley of "Vintage Clothes", "That Was Me" and "Head In The Clouds". Also liked "You Tell Me". When first released, I wished he had sung the song in his "regular" voice. Didn't much care for the falsetto. But now, it seems the right choice for the subject matter and the fragility of it. Vocal fits. And I liked the bonus cuts. One reason I had not listened to it all the way through for so long is because when one of his albums comes out, I select this and that song and place them on a CD which I create with other songs from other albums that i liked on first listen. I listen to those CDs instead of full original albums. Did that recently for "Flaming Pie" and felt the same way. It was all so much better than I had realized. Or maybe I had forgotten.

Seems like there's always one. You'll like it, even if "Dance Tonight" isn't the strongest song he's ever written, but the live versions have made the song much more likeable. I think you'll love the "Vintage Clothes/Vintage Clothes/Feet In The Clouds" tracks. "House Of Wax" is as epic it gets.

IMO - "House of Wax" is worth the price of the entire record. - lol. I also love "That Was Me", "Vintage Clothes" and some of the songs you mentioned. While I don't think MAF is as good as CHAOS it is still one of McCartney's better records.

nice post.

I love Get Smart (the TV show, not the inferior movie).... The worse episode over its five season history was a two-part episode called House of Max....Reminds me of House of Wax, in the sense I think it is one of Paul's worst entries... I think it is dross...But it sounds like I'm in the minority on this... (which is OK. If everyone agreed on everything, the word 'forum' would become obsolete pretty quickly!)

I love House Of Wax as a song and performance. I would never describe HOW as dross even if i didn't like it, it's the case some songs we love some we don't.
