http://www.bobdylanisis.com/contents/en-uk/d19.html ?The Art of Paul McCartney,? a 32-track tribute album featuring covers of Paul McCartney songs both from his Beatles days and solo career by the likes of Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Roger Daltrey, Jeff Lynne and more, was announced April 3 by Arctic Poppy Records. The company says the list of artists besides those already mentioned also include Billy Joel, Steve Miller Band, Willie Nelson, Barry Gibb, Jamie Cullum, and Corinne Bailey Rae. The songs to be covered include ?Live and Let Die,? ?Let It Be,? ?Yesterday,? ?All My Loving,? ?Things We Said Today,? ?The Long and Winding Road,? ?Hello Goodbye,? ?Drive My Car,? ?Hey Jude,? ?Let Me Roll It,? ?Listen to What the Man Said? and ?Every Night.? The company says it has received final mixed tracks for the Paul McCartney album and said "design and marketing plans are in full swing." The Dylan fan tribute magazine Isis reported that boxset and collectors' editions of the album will be released in the summer, with the standard album version coming out later in the year, though this was not included in the company's announcement.

______________________________________________________ Given the names of the artists, I was excited about the prospects of this "tribute" CD until I saw the tracklisting. Are you kidding me? Do we need another cover of Live & Let Die, Let It Be, Yesterday, Hey Jude, Long and Winding Road etc. Could this tracklist be more unimaginative? Even the Solo/Wings songs are too known in my opinion. One of Paul's great strengths is his diversity and sheer volume of high quality material. As a fan, I would be far more excited to buy a covers album that tackles his very good lesser known Solo gems. He has so many that could make such an interesting album. I recently saw a cover of Dear Boy on U-tube from an unknown artist that I thought was great. Look at all the potentially good cover songs from CD's like Flaming Pie, Flowers, Off the Ground, Driving Rain, Chaos, New alone. Judging by the tracklist shown so far, I would have little interest.

Bear in mind that there will be 32 tracks. I'm sure they're just trying to generate general interest by mentioning the better-known titles. I mean, I wouldn't be expecting "Loup (1st Indian On The Moon)" but I'm sure there will be some lesser-known tracks mixed in there. I think this has a lot of potential.

Could be good. Not as interested in the Beatles covers as I am in the solo covers. Glad to see "Let Me Roll It" made the cut.
-
There have been better covers "Out There" of his solo work. A couple come to mind...covers of Ram with Death Cab for Cutie, etc: http://www.stereogum.com/56201/death_cab_ted_leo_portastatic_danielson_cover_paul/news/ http://www.discogs.com/Various-Tom-A-Best-Show-On-WFMU-Tribute-To-Ram/release/3333167

Awfully unambitious song list. Promised so much - delivers little in terms of "the art of McCartney." YAWN...
-
Apparently PS I Love You and When I'm 64 Will be on the album as well..if we can get a Dylan or Nelson version of Things We Said today I would be excited..would be mind-blowing cool if Wilson did Dear Boy.. maybe PS I Love You is something for Lynne?
-
Wasn't this album being talked about two years ago? Took awhile. I think KISS did a version of Rockshow, so I presume that's on there too.

I'm pretty sure this isn't so much for the people who frequent here, but more for the uninitiated. Given that, it's an extraordinary set of songs. Better than most I think. The Who are linking it on Facebook, so I'm sure it has some merit. Mojo did a similar CD - Songs in the Key of Paul, but with some covers and some originals. It was OK. I'd give this a chance!
-
Was expecting Paul's ART paintings...got fooled
-
Sorry..didn't intend to fool. I did say tribute album.
-
At least the cover looks clever...sort of.

That was good, In the Key of Paul, I got that one as well!

Yes i read that Kiss sings Rockshow and The Cure sings with Paul´son James and just for that i pay anything!
-
I just want to hear Dylan cover 'Bip Bop' & I could die a happy man.

This following link could be useful, it's for the official site of the publisher of the album http://www.arcticpoppymusic.com/the-art-of-mccartney-release EDIT: reportedly, Dylan is gonna do "For No One".
-
It was said he would do For no one, but finally seems that Bob Dylan will cover Things we said today. http://www.bobdylanisis.com/contents/en-uk/d19.html
-
I am slightly disappointed. "For No One" would be so much harder for Bob to sing ! I can already picture and hear him sing "Things We Said Today" with his characteristic sounding vocal

http://www.arcticpoppymusic.com/the-art-of-mccartney-release:
the project features some of the biggest stars in the music industry performing his and the Beatles? greatest tracks alongside McCartney?s own backing musicians
Does this mean Rusty, Abe, Wix and co. are playing on every song as the backing band??? or does the quote refer to the likes of Denny Laine, Laurence Juber, Hamish Stuart, etc?

I took it to mean his current backing musicians.
