Finally the end of the Out There tour?
-
He wants and needs to tour much more often than "tour every five years" Time is a-wasting and he's got his chops, still, ability and desire and is one of the top touring acts on the planet. Top Five, at least, if not in the Top 2 or 3. So much ecstatic excitement is unleashed in every city he announces he will play in and it's great fun to watch by proxy if you can't be there in person! No, this is not the time to slow down.
-
Yeah, I mean, every 5 years, he's 73 now. If he wants to tour, tour.
-
If he feels like doing it, he should keep doing it. Even if his voice hits rough patches here and there.. He's still more energetic and gives a bigger show than many half his age. We cannot compare the 73 year old Paul McCartney with the 50 year old, or even 65 year old. I will soak up any concert he throws out there because years from now, we won't be so fortunate to have his shows so easily at our access! We've been spoiled with a constant ongoing tour, but that won't last forever. Enjoy it!

You never read the post I was talking about when I replied that he should tour every 5 years. This is what I think he should have done many years ago and not now at age 73. His constant touring has made it not a big deal anymore unless it is in a city he has never played. The media for the most part are ho-hum another McCartney tour. When Mr. McCartney toured in 1989 it was a major event, absence makes the heart grow fonder - lol. The same was true when he did the Driving Rain tour. IMO Mr. McCartney does not always have the "chops" vocally and it is showing now more than ever which makes sense at 73.

I don't see why Paul should let media coverage dictate his touring decisions. Besides his simple desire to do it, I would think the ability to still sell tickets would be the primary consideration. As for touring in cities he's never played before, he's done a lot of that over the past several years. He just played in two of them.
-
Constant touring is pleasing the fans. He doesn't need to please the media. His fans don't need the media to make a big deal about him. They already know he is a big deal and will go to concert after concert regardless if it's covered by the press. The media chops things up anyway. Any time I read a big outlet review, there is likely an error or much missing info.

"I don't see why Paul should let media coverage dictate his touring decisions. Of course he will sell tickets especially in cities he has never played, everybody wants to see "Beatle" Paul.

No one said he needs to please the media. Some of us pointed out his tours are not the big deal they used to be. And we are right. It is not a comment on his greatness as an artist. Rather, it is a lament how things have changed. I liked it when the press covered his tours and made a big deal of it, because it was a big deal.

Have Mr. McCartney do a tour that has music from 1970- 2015 only and see how many people would show up. IMO there is a difference between Beatle fans and fans of Mr. McCartney the recording artist

I'm pleased and thrilled to see him perform. Period.

I'm a fan of both the Beatles and Mr. McCartney as a recording artist. Don't know why you have to be in one camp or the other.
-
Honestly, I don't see much of a difference at all. He usually gets national press when he plays L.A. or New York. Or when he plays one of the big festivals. Other than that, he basically gets local press coverage from whatever city he happens to be playing in. It's been that way since 2002.

His live shows are still an awesome experience. If they were not, I wouldn't fly across the GD WORLD each year to see him. And as most here know...with me, criticism flows as easily as praise.

That's cool! I am glad I saw him eight times!

MPL just posted a photo on Instagram of the band. "End of tour, on the bus. #OutThere". So maybe it's finally the end of this "long and winding tour"?
I believe it is. Apart from Paul's own remarks, people who work for him have been talking about the tour being over on social networks. After nearly 30 months, it's time for a change. It was his longest tour (using the same name) ever. Fingers crossed for at least 10 different songs (and the end of the rising platform) next year.

Good and so are most members on this board but the casual fan does not care IMO after they see him the first time and get their "Beatle" fix.

If Paul is in the mood to tour and healthy, then I think he should keep doing it as long as he can. I will go to see him whenever it's possible for me to do so. I still remember the long TEN YEAR WAIT between 1979 and 1989, when we hoped and hoped for him to tour again. I don't care about the setlists anymore. He's always had the tendency to keep them the same from show to show during a tour. I would love more solo and Wings songs, too, but I won't let the fact that he's not doing them keep me from seeing him in concert. I am happy that he is doing shows that are almost 3 hours long - to me, that is an amazing amount of time to spend in his presence.
-
I personally would like to see him take some time off the road and work on a new CD/album. While NEW was a good album I don't believe it in his top 6 or 7. I think if he took a little more time this time, he could deliver another great, classic album. Another possible benefit from staying off the road for 1-2 years is to rest his voice.

I reckon from here on in it's touring. Tours tours tours. I honestly don't think he has another great album in him and anyway the voice is too fragile at this stage. On the other hand he could deliver another great Fireman type album. A more casual free format that might not highlight his faltering studio vocals so much. My Valentine (I love it), Hope For The Future, I Want To Come Home, there's a sameness to most of his stuff now...nice, but not great.
