[quote="oobu24"]Instead, they are putting out colored vinyl albums. https//us.udiscovermusic.com/paul-mccartney-8lp-exclusive-color-vinyl-bundle.html Been there; done that w/ vinyl & Cd's for that matter. Digital is where it's at. It doesn't take up space & personally I like having my over 29,000 of tunes fit in the palm of my hand.

Wake me up when it is July 2018.....

Yep. I hate to be cynical but I wonder if the rush not to complete it is purely financial. Touring makes a lot more money than new albums. Oh well, hope it comes out in early 2018.
I believe Paul knows the next album, in all likelihood, will be his final proper studio album. He wants it to be well received by critics and fans alike and is taking all the time in the world. What he should be concerned about, as well, is if he will have a voice left to finish recording it. : Yes, he loves touring and the adoration he receives. Fans are willing to overlook the voice because he is so charming. That's why he keeps doing it. IMO. It can't really be about the $$. He has more money than he will ever need. or could use for the rest of his life.

That's a nice sentiment and I really wish it was true but I doubt it somehow. I would be more convinced if he would let his fans attend the soundchecks for free for example. After all, he has to undertake the soundchecks anyway. But no, he tries and eek out every last bit of cash from his fans, even though,as you rightly say, he doesn't really need to. I think he just likes being stinking rich.

If he did that the soundchecks could get out of hand. The soundchecks are a time for the band and crew to get work done preparing for the show, not for the crowd to be entertained. He cares about putting on a quality show, so the soundcheck is important -- it's only because of his compulsion to entertain that it's become anything more than that. Listening in is meant to be a privilege for a very small group that used to be comprised only of a lucky few who had connections, but is now more widely open, which is a good thing for fans overall. I suspect they had set the prices very high in the beginning partially to dramatically limit attendance, as with any extra-access VIP package, and then found there was strong demand even at those price points. The prices have increased a bit over the last couple of years, but I suspect that's the promoters trying to capitalize on the demand more so than Paul himself. I don't think those margins make a big difference to his personal bottom line. And to the larger point, I can't imagine going to his shows and not seeing the immense enjoyment he still gets out performing.

Let's not forget these tours are huge, expensive productions and it costs a lot to mount and transport everything. Not only is there Paul and the band, there's the sound people, the lighting people, the pyrotechnicians, all the equipment, signage to be printed, etc., etc., etc. If you've ever been involved in putting together an event, you know how fast the seemingly small expenses add up, even for something small (and the only ones I've had any role in involved 1,000 people or fewer). You'd be surprised how much of those high ticket prices goes just to cover all the overhead.

Even if that were true, which it isn't, he wouldn't be making a new album for money. Nowadays, musicians make money on the road playing live. That's why his concerts are two-thirds Beatles' songs. Because he knows what the public wants to hear. He's not making a new album for money. He's still a vital artist, creating some of his best work in his 60's and 70's.

Hopefully not his last album, but who knows? Definitely looking like 2018, only question is when.

McCartney will not admit it but I think you are right and it will be his last studio album. It is usually around 4-5 years between every new album and I just don't see him doing one when he is 80 years old. Lord only knows what type of physical shape he might be in at 80.

If he plans on touring in 2018 (which he probably will), an announcement for the tour should be made by April/May 2018. Hopefully an announcement about an album release date will be made before then, so it can be promoted and purchased during the next tour. If the new album's release is announced in the fall of 2018, after the 2018 U. S. tour (a year from now) that seems like a long wait, but I'm sure the wait will be worth it. He probably doesn't want to rush something out quickly without giving the quality time and attention it deserves to make sure it's the best product possible. IMO he knows fans were looking forward to a new release this year, so had the other albums reissued, to hold us until the newest work is out.

I think he will be in good physical shape for someone at 80, but will what is left of his voice hold up and will he even be touring at that point? What I would like to see is one final studio album, and one more fireman release ( call it Paul McCartney Goes Too Far and go for broke on that release).

Someone with industry connections on another music board I read said that vinyl is the only growing sector of the music biz now, and there is demand for it.

B.B. King and Leonard Cohen are two artists I know of who made new albums in their 80's. No doubt there are more. Jerry Lee Lewis (almost 80).

Chuck Berry's last album was recorded when he was 89; it was announced on his 90th birthday and released this year after his death.

Not exactly. Per Rolling Stone it was "made up of material recorded between 1991 and 2014." http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/inside-chuck-berrys-first-new-album-in-38-years-w472743
