Set List critique

As suspected, the set list moaners are back - did you really think he was going to radically change the set list?
Why can't people just be glad that he's still touring at all?

IMO the majority is glad that he's still on tour! BUT this is the first tour he opens again with the same opener he did the tour before. He named it "freshen up" released recently a very sucessful new album but performed only 3 songs from it. I could expand with lot's other argument (already written here from other fans) . The Point is it wasn't nessesary to rename to freshen up tour. For me it's nothing else than a simple marketing trick. Setlist changes for US Tour 2005, Up and coming Tour 2010 or Out There 2013 were steps in the right direction. This setlist is a disillusionment!

This is a new opening number as far as the UK are concerned - but remember we're not as lucky as the US and only see him twice a decade if we're lucky.
Of course it's a "marketing trick" though, because people who've never seen him live before will want to see the hits and the classics, and Paul himself is fully aware that when he plays new songs, the audience aren't quite as engaged as they are for the older songs.
He was never going to play six or seven new numbers in a million years, and everyone knew that before last night.

But that’s not true- he is already playing 6 songs written in the last 7 years. It’s just that he left us with My Valentine (which had never gone over well with the audience) Queenie Eye (has been played lots over last three years) and 4/5 (which is embarrassing to hear from him)
none of those songs are being demanded by the “Beatle Paul” fans. So, why not change them to all Egypt Station? Laziness that’s why.

You missed my pint entirerly, but nevermind.
If you don't like the set list then don't go, and give some one else (who may not have seen him live before) the chance to see the show.
I'll be seeing him for the fourth time in December and I'm happy with anything he plays.

You being happy is just a legit as someone who is not happy.
As for “Marketing” let’s discuss. The casual fan (1st timers) that he caters to don’t give a flip what the name of the tour is. They don’t know what he is going to play.
So the name is a direct ploy to longtime, multiple, repeat show fans. That is why this set list is so terrible. It feels like trolling, as I said before.

Setlist from the Quebec show:

We can just hope that with a real horn section he can add in the future some songs like "Silly love songs" or "Martha my dear" who have a brass section.... But it's a little hope....

Macca did mentioned Silly and Love Songs during the radio interview yesterday. He said that they spoke about it... but that's all. I would say there is no hope of deliverance from this static setlist. After this marking gag I'm going to expect nothing for the future (no hope for the future ). I would only expect something for a tour where the tourmarkting changes the focus more to his songs after 1980 or rare wings stuff...

He added an exciting horn section--that's new. And he performed "Let 'Em In" for the first time since 2012 ! Special. "A Hard Day's Night" electrifies as an opener, but I think he'll mix that up and trot out some different opening numbers for surprises soon. One poster called him "lazy" for not really freshining up the setlist...he's more like the hardest working guy in show biz than "lazy" so he should work it by rehearsing "new" different songs to live up to the concert tour's title. I believe he will, as the tour goes along. Spurred on by the galvinizing impetus of his number one album after almost four decades, and knowing the huge thrill it elicits in many fans

Exactly - it's the 'Freshen Up' tour and he's freshened up the set list and added in a horn section.
It's not the 'Radical Shake Up' tour, is it?

With the lyrics of nearly 40 songs to sing ( and to play), I do think its asking a lot of this 76 year old to suddenly start dropping and adding too many songs. In the main now I think Paul performs almost on auto-pilot and its quite understandable that he feels comfortable sticking to songs that's he's performed so many times before. Just adding half a dozen new songs is asking a lot of him. Also, I don't think he wants to spend too long rehearsing. For the Wings 1975 / 1976 world tour, they were rehearsing between May through to September 1975. There's no way Paul is going to spend nearly five months rehearsing these days. Now its all about getting away with making the least amount of changes as possible.

To play songs like She loves you-I wanna hold your hand or another couple from new album is not useful months of rehearsals..

That's exactly my point. A half a dozen new songs and getting familiar with the main set of songs doesn't take long to rehearse. But I get the impression that some fans would like to see a fairly significant change to the main setlist of recent years and that would take a lot more rehearsal time . The setlist between the 1972 'Wings Over Europe' tour and the '1975/76 world tour' three years later changed beyond all recognition. But Paul was only in his early 30's then. Now,he's well over double that age and it just isn't easy for him anymore to learn so many new songs from scratch.

But then why change the name of the tour? ESPECIALLY to Freshen Up.

Some thoughts about last nights set list; I was thinking Paul would change it around a bit more, I know a complete overhaul will never happen now, when was the last time he played in Canada? I'm going to the Paris concert and he last played there in 2016 with the majority of songs played last night so the question is will we get a few more changes as the tour progresses?
Don't see why he's still sticking AHDN as opener when there are plenty of others to choose from and keeping Queenie eye and fourfive seconds in the set seems a bit odd.
On a positive note he has added the horn section and I havent heard him sing 'Let em in' and 'From me to you' before

I just think that Paul should expand the setlist a little to include more of his solo songs. How is it a bad thing for him to include MORE of his solo songs so that folks can a get a better idea of his catalogue?

Real simple. People like me moan because he has critically acclaimed album that is #1 in the US and he plays just three songs from it. Do you think that his audience would have cared if he did not play "45 seconds" and "In Spite Of All Danger" and replaced it with two really good songs from "Egypt Station". Isn't part of the reason you go on tour is to promote your new album and play a bunch of it.
