OK in that case the top 5 songs of 2018 are easy :
1- Happy with you
2- Dominoes
3- Do it now
4-Confidante
5- Who cares

So of the thousands of recorded songs that have been released this year, Rolling Stone thinks that Come On To Me is the 9th best do they? Can anyone take Rolling Stone even remotely seriously?
Admittedly Egypt Station is a fairly average album but COTM isn't even the albums best song, let along the 9th best song by anyone. I suspect they are simply buttering Paul up for an exclusive interview next year.

It seems like they were basically looking at singles, though they didn't say it. ES is a great album, but Come On To Me is nowhere close to its best track. It was a logical radio single, but that's about it.

McCartney has always done exclusive interviews with RS for quite a few years, don't think they need to butter him up. IMO - RS can never win with McCartney fans. Years ago they said RS Stone hated him (album reviews) and favored Lennon. Now when he gets praised by them it is because they are trying to butter him up. Personally, I don't think "Come On To Me" is that great either but maybe they just happened to like it.

Actually people, Rolling Stone named "Come On To Me" the EIGHTH best song of 2018, not NINTH. I cannot agree more. RS described this tune a "swaggering, hammering, hollering Wings-style rocker that tilted towards Helter Skelter territory." Exactly!!!!
-
To my ears, the insanely catchy "Fuh You" towers above the repetitious "Come On To Me." What happened to the Come On To Me dance contest, btw? Did it fizzle out, something like that? Or did someone finally win, to little or no fanfare?
-
I'm just glad they put him in the top 10! Would have liked to have seen him get at least a #3 (he worked really hard on this album so truly deserves it) but #8 is still pretty good, and better than not being in the top ten at all IMO.

Sorry about the typo, thanks for the correction.

This was already mentioned on here somewhere. This was the one where I have only heard of 14 of the top 50 artists, including Paul!
-
Great that he made the list!

At the risk of repeating myself, this song is ordinary. At best. I love Paul, dearly, but this song is the least appealing song on Egypt Station. A great album. The song, though, just does nothing for me. It is bland. A horrid choice to help present the album to the world. Can't believe it made any 'best of' list.

Let's put this in perspecive. Sure, all of us on this board agree there are much better songs from Egypt Station that we wish were "honored" than that one. That being said, McCartney even making the top 50 list from Rolling Stone is a good thing because any publicity is usually good publicity. In addition, I believe the single did fairly well so maybe to the casual McCartney listener the song is better than we think. Finally, check out the artists who made the list with a top 50 song. Most of them are probably 40-50 years younger than McCartney and sell a bunch more records. So, I will take this "honor" as a compliment even though I would have loved another song from the album to make it.

Does it really sound like a Wings song, though?

I don't find "Come on to Me" a "bland" song, it's very lively and brightly cheeky and can sound infectious and get people dancing. It's pretty easy to get tired of as it's too repetitious. I checked out some alternate Indies on Vevo on You Tube and really like some of the new artists. I liked some songs by "The 1975" and the lead singer can really dance, as well, and I love Maggie Rogers, most of hers. Jade Bird has a pretty good song obviously inspired by Nirvana and Kurt Cobain and The Pixies. Certain ones by Billie Ilish sound dreamy. I like some on Mumford and Sons new album "Delta," course they aren't all that new now. Florence and the Machine aren't very new now but I like her new song "Hunger." To the other extreme, I saw some Leonard Cohen vids from a concert by him in Glasgow and the songs were exquisite, truly poetic and the backing musicans and back up singers were also superb, and he was 83 at the time. The audience was digging him.

As the original poster, I think you can change the title to #8. (Or for sure a Mod could do it for you)

"Come On To Me" is not bland at all. It's loud, its fast, its silly, and it basically rocks. Everything I want in a McCartney tune. Nothing more, nothing less. And I believe it did a pretty good job presenting "Egypt Station" to the world. It only debuted at NUMBER ONE!!!

Nancy, I think this site gives you only 30 minutes after original post to edit it so I can't do it. If there is a way, beats me. A MOD will have to make the change.

Sorry, you’re right. I must have changed a title on a thread I created in the 30 minute time limit. Dumb “rule” imho!
