Paul was on Good Morning America today, I think discussing this documentary. I haven't watched it yet.
-
It's on youtube already!

Yeah, just the trailer for the documentary. I thought they might be actually interviewing him!

McCartney 3,2,1 Review: Hulu Doc Examines a Beatle

Signing up for free month of Hulu right now, but having problems. On now with customer rep. Got it straightened out! Now I can watch McCartney 3, 2, 1 and then just cancel before Aug. 13th!

Watched the first 3 episodes, so far, and it is a wonderfully intimate documentary, allowing us to zero in on precise musical moments within the songs as Paul explains their process. While fans may already be familiar with some of the stories, Paul's conversations do touch on new topics and rare photos and footage are skillfully used.
Toward the end of episode 2 Paul plays us a snippet of a new song!
A delightful series.

I wish they would have turned some lights on though!

Much better than I thought it would be. Got on with free introductory month. Even though it is veryBeatles centric and therefore does repeat often told accounts, they do an excellent job breaking down song-isolating bass guitar on various tracks, great harmonies on Dear Prudence, etc.
Rick Rubin great job-- very unobtrusive, keeps his words to a minimum. Some interview Paul talk way too much, get overwhelmed like the guy on VH-1 way back in 1989 before the World tour. Biggest surprise--discussion of Check My Machine.
I thought six episodes would be six hours but actually about half hour each. So easy to binge watch. Will watch again tomorrow.
now, bring on the 2022 tour! -
Excellent documentary series. Although the focus is more Beatles than Paul's 3 moments (solo, Wings and Beatles).
The sum of the episodes equals 3 hours and this looks like preparation for the movie Get Back. Looking forward to November!
-
I have only watched the first episode so far, but will binge the rest asap. I just wish it was in color!
Paul chewing gum somehow cracks me up! Does he do it the entire 3 hours?
-
It dropped on Disney channel for us in Australia.
I watched all episodes today.
Firstly, I hate gum. One of my pet hates. So, I was just wanting Paul to chuck it out. It was distracting!
But...
The stories being told... Many had been heard before. There was some new stuff, but also a lot that we've heard before. And you'll know what they are.
Also, I don't think there was any mention of a song beyond 1979/1980. Was Check My Machine the last? I enjoyed listening to Waterfalls.
That being said, I just loved watching Paul re-listening to the songs. It was wonderful for that. That made it for me. He was having a ball! And that just made it worth it. That was wonderful!
I enjoyed the series.
But I'm hoping there is a follow-up here. Because this special did nothing to really address his great post-Beatles career.
Fleeting mentions of the 70's.... but nothing that went beyond McCartney 2.
Was it enjoyable? Yes.
Did it provide any insight into his solo career? Absolutely not.
Maybe for another time.
Let us hope!
But I recommend watching this series! Worth it just for the magnificent Beatles alone! Wonderful listening to them dissecting those brilliant tracks. And not just Paul tracks. But his place on those tracks. Well worth the watch.

Thanks for the quick review Toris. Sounds exactly what Yankeefan and I feared. Mainly just a Beatles' Nostalgia Trip that contains stories and songs that fans have heard previously. This is yet another reason that Paul needs a new and totally "complete" McCartney Post Beatles' Compilation by Decade. Something that contains all the Wonderful Unreleased Music and all the Extra tracks, B-Sides etc that were never on Paul's original Albums. 50% of the Tracklist for a project like this would be "NEW MUSIC"for 90% of the Beatle fans and even a high percentage of Paul Solo fans. Now that would be exciting for music fans who liked the Beatles and a lot of their Solo stuff. Think about music fans hearing full versions of songs like "A Love For You, Waterspout, Cage, Goodbye, Simple As That, Yvonne's the One, Lindiana, On the Wings of a Nighingale, Don't Break the Promise, India, Whole Life etc. etc for the first time. Now that would bring Excitement!

Yes, I agree...great watching Paul reminisce. And I also agree that this series should be continued. Wouldn't that be great if they did this with his solo career?

Not surprised but sad. It is almost like the last 50 years of his career does not exist to him when it comes to discussing his career.

BJ, the compilation is a fantastic idea and it appeals to a bunch of us on this board. Sadly, this type of thing is not going to happen because Paul has very little interest in his solo music. I have said it before and will say one more time, compliation would only happen if after McCartney is no longer alive his estate wants to find a way to make some money.
-
B J, Yankeefan is sadly right.
I've only watched 2 episodes so far. Will probably spread it out and savor it rather than binging the rest in one day!
-
Is there any news / rumours of a potential blu - ray / dvd release?

Pretty much. I thought it was John who always chewed gum! Loved when they isolated the harmony note John, Paul and George held and held and held! Wow!

Oh you'll hear things you've never heard before....and be told things you didn't know.
