Paul McCartney- New Album for 2023
-
I forgot to mention that Carl eventually released "My Old Friend" on his Album "Go Cat Go". The track's is listed as Carl Perkins with Paul McCartney. It is the original that Carl and Paul did in Monserrat with George Martin as the Producer.

@b-j-conlee
Here is my 1 CD Starter Set for a proposed CD/Album called "Leftovers and Rarities"Starter CD
Leftovers and Rarities-

-
Goodbye - Paul's Demo written for Mary Hopkin
-
Thank You Darling - Paul and Linda's Duet
-
That Was Me - Live Version in Paris (Olympia) or pick the best live version
-

-
Daytime Nighttime Suffering - B-Side to Goodnight Tonight Single

-
Yvonne's the One - Unreleased and written during the Press to Play Sessions

Summer of 59 - B-Side to Jenny Wren Single
-
House of Wax - Live Version at Amoeba or use the Best Live Version
-
Turned Out - Bonus Track on the Deluxe / Collector's Edition of the New Album

-
Whole Life - Great Rocker written by Paul and Dave Stewart and on the "46664 One Year On" Soundtrack
-
Cut Me Some Slack - Paul's collaboration with the Foo Fighters (Great Rocker written by Paul).
-
Simple As That - Originally written during the Pipes of Peace Sessions and on the "It's A Live-In World" Soundtrack
-
In a Hurry - Double A Side Single and never on the "Egypt Station" Album
-
Home Tonight - Double A Side Single and not included on the "Egypt Station" Album
Just a side note... I didn't include any of the McCartney Solo Album Tracks (including McCartney 3) because Paul and MPL just released a Box Set of the McCartney, McCartney 2 and McCartney 3 Albums.

@b-j-conlee
I really like the "Starter CD" just above. It really covers Paul's full Solo career very well and the Track List contains a great deal of variety. Of course there needs to be a few designated "singles per radio formats" to kickstart this CD. Here are my choices:-
A Love For You - For Top 40 Formats
-
I Want To Come Home - For Adult Contemporary or Soft/Mellow Rock Formats
-
Flying To My Home - For Rock and or Country Formats
Any comments or suggestions

This has been a fun discussion, but I don't really get why we're still talking about a rarities/odds and ends album when it's clear Paul's been recording new music. That's the album I really want in 2023.

I agree! BJ, we love ya, but this horse is officially beaten to death.

Hey Bruce -
@b-j-conlee
Bruce
I understand your sentiment of wanting a new Paul album of brand new, never released material. I'm not sure, however, that a "new" Paul McCartney album for 2023 or even 2024 is going to happen. The original rumor started with Paul doing some sort of new album of "unreleased" songs in 2023. That got me thinking of just how many good songs Paul has in his personal vaults that are either unreleased or relatively unknown to his potentially huge, general fan base. As we know, if you include "unreleased or rare" songs (not on original McCartney albums) that would include many songs.It also got me thinking just how a new album like "Leftovers and Rarities" would make a great deal of sense for an aging artist like Paul McCartney right now. For one thing, he already has so many good songs that are generally "unknown" to his fan base. By extracting songs from his past (when he could really sing) it could eliminate all the negativity that an aging artist like Paul would receive about his current voice.
My main point is that most of these songs (from my "Starter" list immediately above) should be known. They are unknown because they get "lost" as unreleased material, they get relegated to B-sides, or they are put on various Soundtrack Albums. As I've said, and for Paul's own sake, most of these songs should be known.
I was just reading how good a company like Spotify is doing financially. By 0fficially releasing a Paul McCartney CD/Album like "Leftovers and Rarities" to Spotify (or another giant music conglomerate) Paul would automatically receive tremendous exposure. Let Spotify or an Amazon handle the Distribution.
Just my thoughts.

And the fact that most of these songs are on countless bootlegs. -
@oobu24
And most of these bootlegs are not easily accessible nor of good quality or on 1 CD or AlbumThere were actually 2 songs on my "starter" CD above that were on original Paul albums. One was "That Was Me" and the other was "House of Wax". I was just suggesting alternative "Live Versions".
I'm not sure why a "Starter" package like I'm suggesting is a bad idea. Like Yankeefan and others have said...it probably isn't commercially viable but for a Paul McCartney fan, I would buy "Leftovers and Rarities" in a heartbeat.

I disagree on the quality. Sure some are garbage but most are not. Check these songs out:
I didn't say your idea was a bad idea...just that it's been done before in boots. And... as Nancy says about that horse.

I think we all have discussed the merits of this idea and the quality of the songs enough, time to just wait and see if this type of idea ever happens. The one thing I will say is that I believe you need another title for your CD. The word "Leftovers" is not going to inspire anybody to check out the CD. Most people's general impression of "Leftovers" is that it is not anything special. I am not that creative to think of some "catchy" title that accurately describes the songs on this CD proposal. Maybe some of the board members who have responded to this thread can think of something original that describes these songs with a little more flair/pizzaz.
I am with Bruce, would like to see some new music from Paul. With the right type of songs and the magic of a recording studio, Paul still should be able to sound ok vocally.

@yankeefan2
The only title that came to mind is Bruce's description of this kind of compilation:Odds and Ends
It's a catchy title but not sure it connotates a positive message

What about Rarities & B-sides?

@b-j-conlee
I will have my 2nd Disc to the "Follow-up" Collection of Leftovers and Rarities up shortly.Getting back to Disc 1 just above, there were 3 Special Shows that Paul and Band did in the 90's that I absolutely loved. The 1st one was in late 1992 just before the release of "Off the Ground". I included 2 Tracks from this show on my proposed Disc 1 just above. The first song was Hope of Deliverance and the 2nd one was Get Out of My Way. I could have easily included several more.
This concert was called "Up Close" on the MTV channel. It was performed at the historic Ed Sullivan Theater. Our own Nancy put the DVD on Maccaboard and I went through all the songs.
In retrospect, Paul was very relaxed around his Band (Linda, Robbie McIntosh, Hamish Stuart, Wix and Blair Cunningham). Paul's vocals were "Spot-On" the entire night. I couldn't believe how much better the "Off the Ground" songs sounded live compared to the studio album.
Not sure why...maybe Paul was trying to hard at the time of the recording but to me they were clearly better "live". Robbie was fantastic on lead guitar and I still think Hamish was his best back-up vocalist ever. You could hardly hear Hamish's vocals at all on the actual album/CD. The overall show was great. Paul and Band introduced a lot of "Off the Ground songs (being heard for the 1st time) and they mixed in some unusual Beatles' numbers as well. They even did a "bluegrass" version of "Can't Buy Me Love". Paul's on-stage banter was particularly good...not the predictable rehearse stuff he usually does on tour. Paul should, in my opinion, release and sell a DVD of this show. I think many fans would think very differently about "Off the Ground". Even a song like "C'Mon People" (one of my least favorites) sounded great.
The other 2 Special Shows in the 90's were "Live at the Cavern Club" (September of 1999 I believe) and the "Turn of the Century" PETA Show in Los Angeles in the same year. Paul, as you know, had a completely different Band for these performances led by the great David Gilmour. My 2nd Disc (coming shortly) will begin with songs from those shows.
Thanks

That is fine. I thought "McCartney Solo - Flip Sides and Deep Cuts" might be good. "Flip Side" is the way they used to refer to "B -side of a single. "Deep Cuts" is like saying "Rarities" and I think it is important to note these songs are from Paul's career after the Beatles.
-
@b-j-conlee “Up Close” was on MTV Feb. 3, 1993. I have it recorded on a VHS tape. Did I post it here off of YouTube?
The “Live At The Cavern Club” was Dec. 14, 1999 and I have that on DVD. The PETA show was called “Paul McCartney and Friends: The PETA Concert For Party Animals” and was on Oct. 16, 1999 (have that on VHS tape too) Ha! I just found I have it on DVD as well! It was released in 2001. -
Hey Yankeefan... I love McCartney Solo: "Flip Sides and Deep Cuts". It's catchy and gives a "positive" description at the same time.

@njr
Thanks Nancy for the "dates". I think your post for the "Up Close" Special was from YouTube.
