RIP George Martin

RIP George Martin. No doubt he was The Fifth Beatle. I'm listening to The White Album right now in tribute. The album sounds as if it could have come out today by a great Indie band. Timeless production - the hallmark of a great music producer.
Ironically, he didn't have that much of a role during The White Album. Really the boys produced some of their own stuff and Chris Thomas was handed production duties as GM went on holiday. Let It Be aside, it's probably the album that least features his imprint.
And it is a gangly mess. A brilliant mess, but still a mess. That, and Let It Be, is why he told them he would produce Abbey Road if they LET him produce it. They said yes, and we got the masterpiece that was the last note of their symphony as a band. And it towers over the White Album as a Beatle LP. The White Album was a glimpse of things to come for their solo careers.

And yet my two favorite albums are The White Album and Abbey Road.... the latter my favorite favorite. Back on board.

As I read Sir George's autobiography, I was amazed at how many of my favorite artists were produced by him. Couldn't be a coincidence. As a writer, poet, editor, I have to credit the producer for the final edits. He was the connection I experienced. His expertise made all the difference.

His funeral was held on Monday http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-35814797

Just listened to "Tug of War" last night and was reminded how glorious George Martin's brass arrangement for "Wanderlust" it. It truly lifts the song up to the level of extraordinary.

Grrrrr! Are you complaining because he is not lauded like George Martin? Or what?

More Mr Martin never gave him credit...but that's another story for another day.

?What is the function of rock'n'roll? It's the same as the function of classical music - to make sounds that are appealing to a mass of people and are of some worth.? RIP Sir George Martin (1926-2016)

George Martin actually wrote some of the songs on Sgt. Pepper and Abby Road , using the Beatles as a beard, a front, since they were the big time all popular band-- (belated April Fool) Be wild if that were true

Paul McCartney and Elton John gathered at a memorial service in London to celebrate the life and work of producer George Martin on Wednesday http://www.contactmusic.com/sir-paul-mccartney/news/paul-mccartney-and-elton-john-attend-george-martin-s-memorial-service_5251684

Olivia (and probably Dhani) there too: Scroll down https://twitter.com/thebeatles

That was the same location as the memorial for Linda. Also in attendance: Sean, Mary, Ringo and Barbara.
Stella was also present.

Julian was there, too. I don't know any other extended rock 'n roll family that sticks together and continues to support each other as closely as the Beatles clan. Amazing and heart-warming.
