Sgt. Pepper re-issue
-
Bruce M.:
Call me a party pooper (I've been called far worse), but I just have no interest in a remixed Sgt. Pepper. It's a historical artifact, imperfections and all, and I prefer it to stay that way.
Pepper is the most important album the Beatles ever released. But Pepper wasn't even the best Beatles album of 1967! Song for song, MMT is overall higher quality and more experimental, imo.

Inspector Sands:
Some diff opinions on this new remix, but wasn't it Giles Martin who did the much acclaimed Yellow Submarine Songlist for the rerelease of the movie many years ago? There are a good number of Sgt Pepper songs on that, so did they simply take those remixes of songs like Sgt Pepper/WALHF, LSD, When I'm 64 and use them for this remix, or did they start on those songs afresh?
Giles had nothing to do with the 1999 remixes on the Yellow Submarine "Songtrack", or the 2003 redo of Let It Be "Naked". His first Beatles project was LOVE in 2006 for the Cirque du Soleil production in Las Vegas. This 50th Anniversary "Pepper" Reissue is a completely new remix. Sounds GREAT to me!

I will agree there are better Beatles' albums, my favorite being the White Album. But there is no album by anyone which had more influence on music, culture, or the world in general.

Agreed!

Don't get me wrong - I like it , and its been very well done. Just checking though - am I the only person on here that doesn't think this set is particularly over priced ? The only format missing is the vinyl . Surely for the price - and the completion factor, it should have been included ? Also - why do we have a DVD AND a Bluray, with identical content ?! utterly pointless

I am loving the alternate/stripped down versions of the songs! That is essentially why I bought this deluxe set, even if it is a little overpriced.... I did however have a slight meltdown when it came into my keep a week ago. I had no knowledge of the packaging, so when I first opened my package I looked at this "album" on top, which I figured was a "vinyl" version. I thought my provider had given me the wrong version... took me a few minutes to realise I needed to unwrap the plastic.... I opened up the "album".... and thankfully, I saw all the deluxe discs presented in the slim folds! Phew.

Slightly overpriced, I agree.... but then again, I love it.... I was, however, also a bit confused by the DVD and Blu-ray being the same... I may not have done my due diligence, but I was very eager to get hold of this... and was surprised they were the one and same... I might be wrong here, but I thought the video special had never been released... ?... but I've certainly seen that before somewhere....

I had the same reaction! Then I turned the outer cover over and saw that it was the CD set! I even checked on youtube for an "unwrapping" video before I opened it further!

Just like why is it every blu-ray movie you buy comes with the DVD as well?!

Because if you buy the wrong format, you won't have to take it back for an exchange! You can't go wrong owning both Blu-Ray and DVD formats!

Did Sgt. Pepper make #1 on Billboard's weekly top 100 Albums? Thanks
-
Pretty sure Sgt Pepper entered at #3 on the Billboard 200.
-
No. 1 in U.K., No. 3 in U.S. Not bad for a 50 year old!

Right now, Sgt. Pepper is the only 50 year old that is in the top 5 in both the U.K. and U.S. charts! LONG LIVE THE BEATLES!

Totally this ! I think the average person is astute enough to know if they want a Bluray or a DVD ! Well I bought The double vinyl too ... I'm daft I know, but I've found that it fits inside my CD box set . That's a ?140 box set mind you :
-
Yikes! Why the price discrepancy between the U.K. and U.S.? We only paid about $125 including taxes and you paid ?140 which would be about $180!!
-
Nancy I paid ?109 for the CD box and 30 for the vinyl - so I was meaning to get it all we are talking ?140. I have however seen just the CD box for over ?150

Okay, but with an exchange of 1.29, that's still $140 versus $125.
