SusyLuvsPaul:
Reading all this, all in all Fresno seems like a fine tour opener, the massive audience thrilled and in raptures throughout, mostly
Gotta agree, Susy...looking forward to seeing this tour when it comes to New Jersey!! Really love the two "new" tunes (AHDN and Love Me Do) as well as the different versions of Here There and Everywhere, In Spite of All The Danger as well as You Won't See Me.
-
After watching those videos, I'm looking foward to the tour even more. "A Hard Day's Night" opening the show "Here There And Everywhere" on piano "In Spite Of All The Danger" with that great acoustic guitar solo "You Won't See Me" in a new arrangement "Love Me Do" live for the first time, and as a tribute to George Martin "The Fool On The Hill" finally back "FourFiveSeconds" sounding great with his band Beyond excited!

I thought the show was great. Every time I see Paul, I'm thinking about this could be the last one because it's nothing last forever. Just like my friend who lives in Fresno, Many people in Fresno saw him very first time yesterday. They don't check the setlist every time like you guys or diehard fans. They were all happy to see Paul coming to Fresno for the very first time. I want the first timer to enjoy the show first, I want them to hear "Yestetday", Let It Be", Maybe I'm Amazed", or "Band On the Run". I'm happy that Paul is still around. I'm sure I'd never get to see him in person but he is still here for us. No matter how bad was the setlist or how he sang, or how expensive the concert ticket was, I'm very very lucky to see his concert every two year or so. Snuffy
Well said Snuffy!! There's too much negative energy on this board today. There are many, many songs I would love to hear Paul perform, but it's not going to happen. Paul gets to sing what he wants and what he is comfortable performing. I feel very fortunate that I still get opportunities to see and hear him sing my favorite music in the world, PERIOD!!
I agree, Can't wait for the Shows, never enough!!
-
Because they are the ones that have been buying his solo records/CD's since 1980 while the casual fan does not spend a dime except going to that one concert.
Oh, you mean the albums he's been losing money on? Recordings don't make money, especially now, but tours do. When you buy a recording, you get that recording. That's the exchange of goods, and Paul has plenty of niche and non-niche recordings to satisfy the most hardcore of collectors. You don't get the recording PLUS the right to dictate his career because your overestimate your own importance. You realize you're seriously suggesting that Paul should please the hardcore collectors who buy ALL his recordings with a live show, while the people paying FOR the live show should, what? Just get out? Or as Bob Dylan once said, "Just because you buy my music doesn't mean I owe you anything." Again, it's the entitled attitude that I can't stand. There's no competition that makes you the best fan. Paul is never going to be the underground indie artist that you seem to want.

Dawg you got that rite! These are some real treats, bona fide goodies to be hearing again on tour or for the first time? A couple of 'em? "A Hard Days Night" seems a super rousing smashing anthem for the opener--ought to get 'em going along with that huge rush of first seeing Macca take the stage !! Ye hawwwwwwwwwwwww It's all good ! Macca and band touring again

I get what you're saying and largely agree...however, there IS an aspect of Paul that's pretty much an "underground indie artist" (He's everything, just about)--recall The ("Bo Ho") Fireman oeuvre, "Temporary Secretary" is pretty weird, some of "McCartney II" is kinda out there, rather unusual to the ear, and there are other examples. Even "Coming Up" maybe, "Biker Like an Icon," right many of his unreleased gems You think? Like "India" and such. And that delightfully surprising number with a jumbled up wild Mardi Gras party feel (the title escapes me right now, it's late, at an all-night Mickey D's for the music and being open all night and free WiFi, non fat sugar free lattes and orange "cuties," the oat meal LOL)--Oh yeah the title of the party hearty ditty is "Cosmically Unconscious" Methinks

No, he did NOT do 'Every Night" twice. Have no clue what the Grandma song was about, have never heard that, when he sang it, I turned to my husband and whispered "what the heck is THAT?"

Limo greeting was very cool as well was seeing old friends and making new ones. Paul actually sounded pretty darn good but I saw the concert from a strange and new vantage point for me - no one in front of me but I was on the side of the stage, right by Paul's piano. There did seem to be some echo, but that might have been due to my locale. Lots of good butt shots, saw Abe drinking red wine, slipped and fell at one point....ouch. Not inferring it was due to the wine, but oh, the things you see at that level! I had a very unfortunate fan experience because of a horrible woman in back of me, yelling at me to sit down during normal applause and a security person who watched me like a hawk. Guess I looked sketchy to them....lol. I enjoyed the opener and Love Me Do and have never ever left a McCartney concert early, but I was being harassed so badly, I left early. Just say NO to FresNO. Hope the rest of the shows continue to kick butt.
Going to get you a new shirt "Sketchy Barb" Seriously, sorry you had such an experience. At least Paul was spot-on and you know the next show will be better for you!!

Yea and I looked around people's face while Paul singing Band on the Run or Maybe Im Amazed, you see how happy they were! Wow, It just priceless, Paul coming to Fresno? It's unreal for them.

A dude I "know" on F.B., musician Chris M. of Athens, Ga. rhapsodized over Fresno's setlist, said he would adore hearing A Hard Day's Night, Letting Go, You Won't See Me, Love Me Do, In Spite of All the Danger, all those which were "new" and different...Macca had never done AHDN in America before, for example, Chris said.
-
This is silly, but I kinda miss the confetti. Wonder if the venue would not allow it?

Well, that's definitely not true. The Beatles performed AHDN several times in America in '64 and '65.

I think the imposition here is that McCartney has never played 'AHDN' live as a solo artist rather than not performing it "ever" before.

Wow, you are kidding me right. First, artists have signed recording contracts with companies over the years so they are not losing money on albums/CD's. Yes, they make more money touring, never said touring was not more profitable in today's world. So if you think Mr. McCartney does not make money on new recordings and he should rarely play them in concert, why bother recording new songs - lol. Second, I have never said he should not play the hits. I guess you did not read what I have posted previously. Myself and others have just asked that he may do 5-6 solo songs he has never played before in the show out of approx. 36 songs he performs every night. That leaves almost 30 Beatles/Wings songs which is more than most any other performer plays in entire night. Think about it, I am hoping for about 20 minutes of different music that I would like to hear out of a 2 1/2 hour concert. Third, I never said I had the right to dictate his career. I am just expressing my opinion as a fan. Excuse me for wanting to hear more songs past 1980 - lol. I understand people seeing Mr. McCartney for the first or second time want to hear the songs they loved from the 60's and 70's. I just think a brilliant artist like Mr. McCartney should do more than 2-3 songs in a concert that are not 35 or more years old. Fourth, playing a solo song like "Take It Away" (never performed live) which was a top 10 single (US) is not being an Indie artist. "My Brave Face" (not played live since 1990) charted at #25 in the US as a single, so it is not like the song is totally obscure either. With a straight face, tell me that first time people are clamoring to hear the Beatle song "In Spite of Danger". Try asking a person attending a McCartney concert the 15 top songs they want to hear that night and let me know if anyone says "For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite". My point is that do you really think the world would end in a concert if these two songs were replaced by solo songs. Finally, I am glad people seeing Mr. McCartney are loving his current concerts. I have seen him 7 times (starting in 1976) and have many great memories. I am just expressing my opinion that the current setlist is not something I want to pay over $100 a ticket to see. I also agree with others that if you are going to give a tour a new name then the setlist should be changed more than it was the first night.

And, again, people are buying tickets for One On One thinking that it's a whole, new show. The latter half of it is practically identical to Out There. They are feeling ripped off by Paul McCartney. And, yes, "Take It Away" is just sitting there, dying to be played -- especially considering that Tug Of War is remastered and re-released. But we get "Mr. Kite" again.
