I've heard Jann Wenner is already calling it rubbish.
Jann Wenner is a wanker!!

Rumours have it that this will be Paul's best album since "Band on the Run".
This requires believing that nothing Paul has done since then is as good as BOTR. Much as I like BOTR, I can think of 3 or 4 subsequent albums I consider superior. It's all a matter of taste. And rumors at this point should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt -- hell, make that a couple spoonfuls.
Well the special thing of BOTR is that is kind of "flawless"... As it's only a 9 songs album there is no "filler", no song that is not a great song. Then there are Paul albums that have better songs that those 9 but then they have more stuff to make a longer album... That sure is a thing to discuss, how much time should an album last? how many minutes? how many songs? The good old 30 minutes or so Beatle album weren't bad, maybe it's better than a, say... 55 minute album. The greatest example could be The White Album, still George Martin thinks that it was a mistake to release allll that, a 30 songs album but for many it is the best Beatle album...

I'm assuming Deej was joking there, right? A comment on Rolling Stone's dissing of Paul in the '70s?

Indeed. Whenever you see a smiling smilie at the end, that's the tip off for humor/sarcasm etc. etc. etc.

Jon Landau has already called the new album the nadir of 21st century rock composition.

I thought it always had ten...that "Helen Wheels" was added at the last minute after the liner notes, etc., had been completed? Or was that only in the release in America? My vinyl version had ten songs, but only 9 were listed even then.

I just find it hard to believe that anyone would walk out on Paul McCartney in 1976, I don't care who was singing! The concert reviews were absolutely off the charts, just hard to believe! I want McCartney's next album to be as strong as it can possibly be, and I think more participation from his excellent band would help to make it that way. No one is asking them to take over, but they certainly could help in more areas.

The original release had 9 songs... I think Helen Wheels was added only in the US, then there are releases with Country Dreamer too and there's the remaster with the second CD.

Don't any of you have contacts in the music business that could give us some news?

I got my copy of BOTR on cassette in the very early 80s. It had Helen Wheels on it. I am in the US. if that helps any

I think Helen Wheels is an ill fit on Band On The Run, there's a certain thematic thread that goes through all the tracks and Helen Wheels doesn't uphold it, despite the Sailor Sam reference. I guess if it's always been there then you're going to think differently but it does disrupt the mood of the piece somewhat and I'm sure Paul would agree.

Hopefully things are being put into motion too.

according to the new rolling stone interview released today, he was "putting the finishing touches" on the new album earlier this week in L.A.

hay it better come out soon That had best be the truth. A lot of fans are gettin' right grouchy and crabby about this. Becoming crab apples We wanna find out where Macca's head and heart is now, soon as poss. Course one would wager some of these "new" songs were composed as many as five or six years ago. We've not heard them, anyways. May they soon be released so the uproar may begin, the excitement

That's a shame about this site.... I wrote an email to Stuart Bell who does the blogs for the site. It's a down right shame that the only news that we seem to get is from things that have already happened. Never any updates aboutthings we want to know about like the new album's status and projected release and projects like the guitar concerto and the tribute album with Kiss and The Cure on it....those two were years ago. The status of the Archive Collection, does it stop after that last two on the flyer? Or do we start over on a new flyer? It's a shame that they are so out of touch of what the fan's eally want to know about!!!!! Sing the Changes!!!

Paul's marketing-machine has improved drastically since the Chaos era, particularly once newly released projects are in full swing. Memory Almost Full was a nearly flawless campaign, despite some overlapping of single-releases. The same can be said for Kisses. Lately, however, it does seem that a lot of news, direct from his camp, is rarely news.

Crabby Apple -great name for the album
