Sadly I agree, for me it's not QUITE strong enough for a good single, and I too have given it multiple listens over the last week. I started off thinking it was 'ok', it grew on me, and has since 'shrunk' on me It's catchy, and the masses will like it (shuffle beat is instantly catchy and commercial), but it's FAR from his best. Sounds like there was minimal effort put into composing it (rushed?).
Oh no! "Shrinkage!" (Seinfeld) Some of the best songs were written quickly. After I told him it was my favorite Beach Boys song, Carl Wilson told me that Brian wrote "God Only Knows" in 15 minutes. Paul probably did write this song quickly, and it's no "Yesterday" but I like it a lot.
I love how casually you mention a personal conversation with THE carl wilson.
This was back in 1978 when I was 23 and it was a lot easier to get close to famous people. (I don't think the word 'stalking' had been invented yet!) Tracked them down at the Peachtree Plaza (in Atlanta) after their concert. Ran into Al Jardine in the lobby and he invited my gf & I up to the Sun Dial restaurant at the top of the hotel (it rotates in a circle--the hotel is round) and the rest (minus Brian & Mike Love) were up there, plus Jan of Jan & Dean (met Dean and Mike Love the next day but that's another story!)

(shudders) Would if been so awful had Macca come out with a Lady Gaga-type dance ditty, or worst yet, a W.I.L.L.I.A.M. style hip hopper You think?

that would be an all time low, well for me of course makes you wonder if he would lose alot of old fans this way

I think the older fans can be quite closed-minded and a little too Beatle obsessed. Personally I love when Paul tries the more experimental stuff, dance, pure pop etc, Fireman type stuff is great.

I too love it so when Paul gets experimental I love how Paul is always stretching his boundaries! When you see him in a video tapping on everything in sight to "find the right sound" well that man finds music everywhere, doesn't he! Hope there's some more Fireman type stuff coming up soon!!

I love "Electric Arguments" and others of his wilder more unusual stuff--I adore his diversity and being eclectic, dig some of "McCartney II," etc. I didn't mean I only appreciate his "English Tea" type directions he takes musically. I don't like some of the Black Eyed Peas type fare and wouldn't love it if he came out with something just like those. That's what I meant. I absolutely adore it that he writes songs in just about all genres and is a master of them all...I love variety. I didn't mean what you guys thought.

A little more info re: production/songwriting... According to ASCAP, there are separate compositions for the following, and all four are listed as co-written by McCartney/Paul Epworth: Save Us, Road, Queenie Eye AND Struggle. None of the other "new" songs are listed as having anyone other than McCartney as writer.

And Rolling Stone gives "New" a thumbs-up: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/songreviews/new-20130910

I've heard New once....was not impressed on first listen. Hopefully it will fit better into the whole album.

I thought he only did four songs with Epworth producing, one of which was "Hosanna". So he did five, all of which made the album?

"Hosanna" was done with Ethan Johns producing.

Could you please tell us what the other songs are as well? Thank!

This message board is not yet ready to let us share the track listing, but I'm sure it won't be long now!

On second thought realized I actually have enjoyed some of Lady Gaga's rousing dance songs such as "Born This Way"-- It wouldn't be so awful if " The Life of a Party Girl," for example, is in that style-- it's over six minutes long and I wondered if it could be a big dance hit. "Track Listing"--the names of the songs HAVE been revealed in here--guess you mean the exact order the tunes will be on the album? When I found out all the songs' names I wrote speculations on what each might be about, but noticed that post disappeared. I must have got carried away (again) and been too controversial. It's still a disappointment to me it's gone. Perhaps I could place it here again and leave out what I suppose was the offending part. What's Paul Epworth's claim to fame? He must be pretty doggone good for Macca to have composed songs with him for "New"

He's written with Bruno Mars, Florence & The Machine and, most famously, Adele. Done production for them as well as Cee Lo Green...

Walmart is listing a 15-track edition: http://www.walmart.com/ip/28997612 All of the other songs show up as songs on ASCAP, and all are solo McCartney songs. The puzzle is that "Struggle" (an Epworth co-write) has yet to show on any of the published tracklistings. Amazon France, Walmart and Paul's own label (http://www2.concordmusicgroup.com/albums/New-HRM-34837-02/)) have posted tracklistings: 13-song regular & 15-song deluxe, the two extra songs being "Turned Out" and "Get Me Out Of Here". And Paul's label in Japan has NOT posted a tracklisting, but HAS posted text that appears to imply Japan will have a 16-song version: http://www.universal-music.co.jp/paul-mccartney/products/ucco-3048/ [run that through an online translator, and you'll see]

Just saw this. Well, now we know the band knows the song, and therefore probably more songs off the new CD! Hope they show up in the set list in coming concerts!
